Staff are Incompetent and thieves
Staff members are Incompetent and thieves... buddies putter was stolen due to out cry pro calls buddy says putter was found behind the practice putting green... pro said found next morning by a member... buddy got a private message from a friend of a caddy that says the caddy found it last night behind practice green... funny thing is my buddy didn’t even go to the practice green... this is t first time buddy had item from his golf bag stolen there... stay away and don’t leave clubs with any caddy
I used ShipStix to ship my clubs. The staff never opened the box...just removed the shipping label to reveal the return label and had my clubs shipped out the next day, despite clearly written instructions ithat included the date, tee time, and member I was the guest of! They gave me a pair of shoes and a glove and rental clubs 2 inches shorter than mine. So playing the course was Avery frustrating and disappointing experience. Amateurs!
One of the Best I've Played
I was fortunate enough to play Valhalla yesterday and can't recommend it enough. The course is one of the best I've played, and extremely fair and fun. Good shots will be rewarded, and bad shots will penalized. I know this sounds obvious, but its the mark of a great course, which Valhalla absolutely is. It's also a lot of fun to play, as there are multiple ways to play each hole and strategy is a huge part of the round.
I highly recommend getting a caddie too. My caddie saved me at least 3-4 shots and had some great stories about the club. All in all, Valhalla is a must play in the Bluegrass state. Also isn't too expensive if you play with a member (just a little over $100).
Derby Weekend Round
I had the pleasure of playing this course derby weekend. It was a bucket list course for me and didn't disappoint. We took 4 caddies who were worth every penny and did help me birdie a par 3. Course was an easy walk, especially when your not carrying your bag. Obviously everything was in great condition it did rain a little bit in the beginning of the round but ended up cleaning up by the end. It is a difficult course and does play fairly long. The rough was fairly high and did punish you for not getting in the fairway. Greens were fast as expected. If you have the chance play it and do pay for the caddy.
The day I beat Ted Bishop
Recently got my 1st round in at Valhalla. The course was in great shape and I received Rock Star treatment. But to be fair, I was in a televised grudge match with Gary Williams and we were playing Ted Bishop and Kenny Perry. And we drilled them ! The staff was amazing and the caddies were very experienced. It's hard to beat good old fashioned southern hospitality mixed in with equal parts passion and knowledge. The golf course is a bit challenging for higher handicap golfers(especially the 6th hole) but this ballpark was built for Major Championships and Big Time events so that it is a sacrifice that had to be made. If you are higher than a 10 handicap you can still enjoy the day, but don't plan on playing the back tees and finishing out on every hole. Better players will be challenged and they can measure their games against the best in the world. My favorite hole is 18. It's got huge potential to create drama. And I did the day I played. (I made birdie to shut out Ted and Kenny...but Gary was right there to make his birdie if it was needed). If you get a chance to tee it up at Valhalla then GO FOR IT! You 'll have a great day. But don't forget to take one of their caddies. Those guys are well worth their fee.
Playground of mortal champions
In Nordic mythology, Valhalla is the great hall where the souls of Viking heroes celebrate with the gods. In the earthly realms, Valhalla Golf Club just outside of Louisville, Kentucky is the playground of mortal champions.
In keeping with it’s namesake, Valhalla is a golf course that plays big. At the 2014 PGA Championship, the course played just a hair under 7,500 yards (it can play even longer), but it’s effective length is considerably more because of the sharply rolling landscape. I was surprised at how big the hills were when I saw them the first time. In addition to this, the raised green complexes and false fronts make for a challenging combination. Add in the natural lush growing conditions and a fair amount water (particularly on the font) and you have a course that will give you as much of a challenge as you want.
The front nine is built on the lowest part of the property where thousands of cubic yards of fill were used to insure proper drainage in the case of big storms, so it is fairly open, almost links-like and significantly shaped. The back nine climbs back up the hills and is marked by more trees that have an impact on the ideal lines from the tee and on approach shots. My favorite two holes, by side, are the par 5, 7th a quintessential risk/reward split-fairway beauty of 597 yards and the par 4, 13th that is the shortest par 4 on the course at 350 yards. The fairway is well protected with multiple bunkers and the green is nearly surrounded by water and built up some twenty feet on huge boulders.
If there are golfing gods, then certainly course designer Jack Nicklaus is welcomed among their company. Fitting then, that this Valhalla gives you a chance to revel in the glory of the history and the challenges that define this championship golf experience.
A phenomenal theatre for golf's best
I had the pleasure of walking inside-the-ropes for three days at the 2008 Ryder Cup Matches at Valhalla, which gave me an up-close look at the course and how the best in the world play it.
While the front side is good, it's the back nine that makes this course special. The dramatic 13th hole, an island green surrounded by what feels like a moat, would probably be the most knee-knocking shot for amateurs out here. The pros seem to handle the deft, downhill wedge shot just fine. From 13-thru-17, the low-lying holes surrounded by hillsides make for not only great natural vantage points for spectators but also creates this great roar effect through the course that can be heard all around.
When I heard earlier in 2014 that the PGA was considering making the course a permanent U.S. Ryder Cup venue - not just because it's the last time the U.S. won the thing, but because it's a very exciting design and a phenomenal place to watch golf, whether it's a major championship or the pageantry of the Ryder Cup.
It's a shame the public can't play Valhalla, one of Jack Nicklaus' best works. It's a special place. But attending a major or Ryder Cup as a spectator isn't a bad consolation.
Putter was thrown down by player in the grass behind first green while he was chipping onto the green. Sat there all day & night until someone found the next morning. Gave this clown all that time to take to social media & start accusing everyone of stealing it. Staff & caddies at this golf course deal with WAAAY more expensive/elite equipment & would have zero reason to risk job over it. This was a huge ploy to get something free from VGC. (Golf, clubs, etc) thankfully the golf course speaks for itself & this rating doesn’t mean squat. Other golf courses BEWARE because we have feeling they try to pull this scam everywhere.
There are attorneys drawing up papers for these ‘special’ idiots accusing them of slander. So hope that was worth it...
