Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Kentucky (2015 #3)
Reviews
Great fairways and greens. Well maintained.
I played this course on June 15th and found it to be in very good condition. The fairways are very good and the greens roll very smooth. This course has 3 very long par 3 holes with the longest being over 250 yards from the tips.
If you can stay in the fairway, birdies are available on several shorter par 4 holes. Rough is thick but recovery from errant t shot is not to bad as the course is quite open.
A very nice course for the $29 we paid.
Nice course
A few too many hillbillies unwilling to repair their ball marks on the greens but overall the course is in very good shape. I've played here maybe 10 times but haven't been here in a few years. Still haven't figured out what to do on the 18th tee. Other than that the course is pretty straight forward.
Good course for a good price
This is a great course, well maintained and usually has tee times available even on the weekends. Have some great deals that let's you play a nicer course for metro course prices (or cheaper). The only downside is the drive to Henry County.
Henry County CC
The course and its greens are in very good condition for this time of year. The staff was very friendly. We were able to play as a twosome behind a foursome in less than 4 hours. Can't wait to play it again soon.
Great Shape.
Great shape from tee to green. Nice greens that are fairly fast.
Nice place that I don't hear a lot about
Found what sounded like a good deal (price) to play this course, so thought I would try it. Boy was I right. I bit out of the way and very cool and extremely windy (20-25 mph) on this particular day, but I found a very nice, well kept course that is/was in excellent shape for this time of year considering the weather we have had. Rye/fescue fairways were full and green, rough was thick but playable...and the greens...probably the best part of the course and some of the best I have seen around the area. Very smooth, quick and rolled true. With the rye grass fairways I thought it might be a problem with them getting burned up during the summer when hot/dry as they tend to not like that weather, but was told they water the fairways well at those times and fairways stay nice and healthy.
The only negitive I have about the course are a couple of the, in my opinion, stupidly long par 3's. Have 2 over 200 yards, one of them being well over 200 yards (about 240 I think from the tips). 200+ yard par 3s are a pet peeve of mine and I just don't think they should exist beyond a PGA setup. Other than that and the very cool windy weather, everything was great. I will be back again for sure.
Very impressed; excellent condition and a great layout.
This course is a little jewel located outside Louisville, KY. Being a senior, they have competitive rates...Golf Now just pluses the value. It's 23 miles for me but the competitive green fees offset the added gas costs. Great place to play.
great value
Course is coming into shape better and better, staff is great, friendly and helpful, if you dont try it you will be missing out
Great terrain, would love to retire near a course like this!
Got a great price. Lots of variety on the holes. A little long on some holes but I scored well today.
A few challenging holes and a few not so. Good balance.
Will do it again...........Course is open, up and down. Some side hill lies. Greens faster than expected. Beautiful day and a little crowded but moved along very well.
A delicious morsel; hidden gem
This course doesn't have a sprawling clubhouse with grand piano and attendants wiping your clubs; it has a beautiful track with outstanding service and members, set in a scenic and tranquil part of the country that will make you want to move there. Excellent tee boxes, greens that rival Louisville's best CC's (and I worked at a nice one), and truly just great grass (in general). Rewarded in fairways (B)/punished in rough(B-)/greens fast enough to blow it and slide a ball off one with the putter but smooth enough to "shoot pool" on (solid A--Valhalla, Big Springs, Lake Forest, and Persimmon Ridge being A+/A++). I'm not saying the layout is as challenging as some of the courses that have money poured into them by PGA of America, etc, but you wouldn't be on GolfNow if you were a member at Valhalla. I shot 8-10 strokes higher than usual, but didn't lose 1 ball in spite of seeing water on 5-6 holes, occasionally seriously, requiring driver/long iron proficiency to clear them. I also read somewhere that there were no bunkers. Bulljive! I felt like I was practicing my sand game half the day, there just isn't an overwhelmingly large amount of fairway bunkers. It wasn't like blasting out of the fluff at Pebble or any of the courses on Hilton Head Island, but it was fair for these parts (B/B-) I do have to mention that it's vaguely short, but that allows a 35 year old with no aspirations of playing the tour to stay competitive in the driver category and see birdie chances fueled by approaches with short irons and wedges instead of hybrids or fairway woods. I also should mention that those of you with a left to right ball flight are going to struggle with OB and farm land to hit into off of 4-5 tee boxes and may want to club down. I recommended this to my buddy frequently.
It is my opinion that this course, especially at the prices offered on GolfNow, should be selected before any Metro Parks course in Louisville (period). The friendly people and course make it worth the 45 minute drive. Bring fishing rods and a camera and visit Lake Jericho on the way out ($3). With the leaves turning to fall, this was better scenery than any screensaver sold.
