Heron Lakes Golf Club - Great Blue Course

Portland Parks and Recreation operates five courses in the area and Heron Lakes Great Blue is easily the best. Challenging, beautiful, and fun. Worth every penny compared to public courses in other US cities.

Fairways & greens in good shape.

The sand traps, however, (and there were MANY), were NOT in good shape at all. Many had water in them and VERY little sand. This course used to be famous for it's fluffy white bunkers, many of which are fairway bunkers. Course has always been challenging but they are REALLY scrimping on the maintenance of the bunkers.

good overall but the greens were too slow... some dead spots.. we were happy overall...

Greens sucked.... No alert on Golfnow about recent punching of greens. Actually they may have been punched over a week ago but were in terrible shape. Sunday afternoon with great weather so you know it's going to be slow and it was as we decided to head out after 12 holes. The front nine played in over 2.5 hours... opened up for 10/11/12 and then a wall in front of us.

Great round of golf, did not see refreshment cart once. I assume that would be loss revenue.

greens are looking a bit beat up, never saw a bev cart, and the hotdogs at the turn were served painfully slow. seeened the guy had a lot to look around at.

that said, i like the courses, and i think greenback just had its greens pinched and sanded, blue is probably next and seriously needs it.

It looked like they used goats to take care of the greens.I wouldn't go back this year

Has gotten worse since I played there a couple years ago. Not impressed by the greens.

We were playing at a good pace for a foresome. The twosome ahead was 1-1/2 shots ahead of us so we were not waiting on every shot, but the threesome behind us was 2 holes back. The Marshall came to us at the turn and said we needed to catch the group in front. We pointed out the group behind had not even teed up at the ninety hole yet. Within two holes we were waiting for the twosome ahead, the group behind was still two holes back and the Marshall again came up and said we had to stay with the group ahead. We just got done waiting to tee off and informed him if this as well. With three holes left as we were still waiting to hit on the tee box, guess who showed up? I don't know what kind of power trip that guy was on, but it's time to put that old horse out to pasture.

It was a 90 degree day. One person in our party was told there would be a beverage cart, there was none. I was ok without a beer, but I think a couple guys in our foursome would have enjoyed it. Staff is always friendly. Plenty of drinking water on course, so that is good. Conditions are good, lot of roll on the fairways.

Such an excellent track for being so close to town. Every hole on the back nine is perfect.

I love both courses for different reasons. However I can't play there if it takes 5 and a half hours. Started 20 minutes late and waited on almost every hole. Saw more then a full hole gap, and it seems the rare Marshall is to scared to say anything. Second time I've played recently where it seems they don't care about pace of play. It's killing the game!

Went out last Sunday late afternoon. I should have known better. Still really wet. Total mudfest. I would say hold off until we dry out a little more. Otherwise, I always enjoy this course. Great value

This Robert Trent Jones course is always a challenge, however yesterday it was not only a challenge, but it was in the best shape I have ever seen it. A great course at a great price. I will be back
