Cart path only
I must say that this is a great coarse. I am sad to say that the course was cart path only when the fairways where dry. If you have ever played this course you know how much walking is involved when it is cart path only. It was close to 90 degrees out side and the coarse also did not offer water on it. Today was a long and very grueling day. When I talked to the staff about why the coarse was cart path only he responded that the greens keeper leave at noon and he is aware of the issue. I will never play here again if it’s cart path only
Great Course - Just a few things holding it back from being truly special
I played Bulle Rock this past weekend and this course has a spectacular layout and is so close to being truly special.
So the good - obviously the layout, the amenities and the staff are wonderful. While it was $107 with a Hot Deal it was totally worth the price.
Now the bad. The pace of play was atrocious, despite rangers being on the course. The group in front of us were several holes behind and the round took five hours. The tee boxes could be better and the greens were shockingly poor and were VERY slow. The carts were TERRIBLE and the parking break didn't work on either of them we used for the round. They would pop out and start to roll away despite us putting all our weight on them. That was super annoying.
If you are a high handicap golfer I would not recommend this course. The rough is VERY thick and the course is challenging but great. I would also suggest playing on a weekday if possible to avoid the pace of play issues. The staff were amazing though and the restaurant there is fantasitc.
Still one of the best
Heavy rains caused cart path only conditions. It made for some tough walks but luckily it wasn't a 98 degree day.. The greens were firm but much slower than usual. The course is a great mix of holes and requires every shot in your bag. The range and practice facility are as good as it gets
Wish I could play it more
…but being on the over $100+ side, I’ll spurge every couple years and play. Found a hot deal for less than that, so it was a great time . Awesome warm up facility included in the cost of playing. Short game chipping area that gives players shots ranging between 40-90 yards. . Nice little putting green right there. Great full size driving range with grass tees is a short cart ride into the neighborhood. Then back to the first tee with another very large, but flat, putting green directly next to the starter and first tee.
Were first group after club championship. ( according to starter) Cart path only always adds time to the round, but we finished in a little over 4.5 hours. Played white tees at just over 6000 yards. Many blended tee options to get the distance you are looking to play.
The rough just off the fairways would let your ball completely go under the grass. Had to be almost directly on top of your ball to see it . Some tough pin placements made it interesting. The 2 traps I was in were a little damp from recent rains, but raked up and playable. Nothing is perfect. Rough spots were around the course, but nothing too extremely horrendous. Understandable summer time wear and tear. Greens seemed a little slow to my players in my group. All were in good shape.
This is a tough track. I recommend anyone that plays, play Bulle. But be honest with yourself about your ability’s and play the proper tees. You WILL enjoy yourself!!!
Bulle Bulle !!
Pete Dye did it again....what a great course to play in Havre de Grace, MD! Felt like playing Oakmont with the thick and unforgiving rough along with the quick greens. From the pro to the cart attendant to the staff handling the bags, everything was top notch at Bulle Rock. A wonderful layout with less than expected Pete Dye trickery, a real challenge to play and practice. Treat yourself and go play this fantastic track!
Not for beginners
Bulle Rock is one of my favorite courses but if you dont find the short grass the rough there is soon thick sometimes you have trouble finding your ball which tends to slow.play a little at times if it is buried you're not hitting it far. Very challenging and definitely makes you play smarter. Its always in great shape and is fast out one of the if not the best courses in MD. Only rivaled by Rum point and other OC and Delaware courses . Love it everytime!! Cant wait to go back and improve upon the 90 I shot there !!
Fantastic!
Great course, Friendly staff. We played from the Big 10 tee boxes, and it was very challenging. Combination Birthday and Father’s Day celebration.
Bulle Rock does not disappoint
Played a week after an intense amount of rain. Course was in pretty darn good shape. Greens were 8.5/10. Fairways were great. Tee boxes had the usual amount of wear. Due to the rain, there were large tufts of grass in the already formidable rough. Pace was good. 4:00 hours with a mid morning time. Starter was very helpful. Didn’t stop inside this round. All around good day.
Great course, great experience
From start to finish, this course did not disappoint. Starting with the pro shop and staff, the shop was well organized and had a great assortment. Additionally, the employees at the desk were helpful and courteous. The starter was also excellent, very helpful for a first time visitor and giving out a few pointers in terms of target lines for certain tee shots. The course itself was phenomenal. A really fun layout, greens rolled true, the rough would punish a wayward tee shot, and the fairways were in great shape. All in all, I’d recommend this course to anyone.
Great course
Very challenging and fun course. I will be coming back as often as I can
Beautiful Course but Slow Round
Bulle Rock is a beautiful course I hope to get back to in spite of some issues I ran into on this day. Many memorable holes and beautiful views across the property. The course was in terrific shape.
One issue we ran into was outside the course's control. With all of the recent rain, they had not been able to trim the rough in some time, and it was long, thick, and very difficult. It was difficult to even find your ball, much less advance it. That is part of the challenge of the course, but even course staff admitted that it is not usually as penal as that day.
The second issue was pace. We were waiting on every shot and finished in around five hours. I saw one marshal during the day. While this course is never going to be fast, it was not enjoyable to wait repeatedly, and I think a few slow groups held up the course for everyone.
Finally, there is no drinking water on the entire course. This part of the country can get very warm and sunny, and the course is hilly even if you are taking a cart. It befuddles me that a premium daily-fee course can't have drinking water coolers every few holes like many basic munis. The lack of water made the slow round even less tolerable since I was thinking about when I could hydrate again every hole that went by with no water coolers.
Tough course, great layout..
Definitely worth the round… tough course with beautiful layout
