Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Beware of recent infestation of wasps/hornets on some greens!
There is an issue that has appeared in the last week with hornets/wasps boring holes into some of the greens (No. 7 is really bad). Beside messing up the green, these creatures pose a threat to the golfers, especially those with allergies to bee stings. Hopefully, this issue will be addressed soon as Patuxent Greens provides a great golfing value in the DC - Balt corridor.
Great track that needs some TLC
The course has a great layout with interesting features and decision making. It is also a great value.
Unfortunately the course needs some maintainence to get it back in shape. There was standing water in the rough but the fairways were burnt out in several areas.
Ground digging wasps had taken over two of the greens which had done considerable damage to the surface, not to mention making it a distracting putting environment.
The course staff is outstanding and extremely friendly. It has always been a great track and I look forward to coming back once it's been rehabilitated back to its potential.
best value for the money
It's not the best course around but if you are a budget golfer such as I am, then it's the best value for the money
Great Value
The only issue we had is there were wasps that were building nests on 2 of the greens. Not sure how the maintenance staff missed it. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good condition.
Very friendly staff
The staff at Patuxent Greens were very friendly and helpful. We had a 2:30 tee time and were greeted, checked in and on the first tee box by that time. The course was well maintained and in good shape following the previous day's rain. The pace of play was great and we finished in about 4 hours, even after looking for numerous balls. With all the water hazards, the course was moderately challenging, but not overwhelming for even me, a relatively new golfer. I will definitely play there again in the near future. Oh, they also have a great clubhouse!
you can see they are really upgrading this course.
Good layout and the fairways and greens are in good condition. This course used to be a dump. Don't play when it's wet, doesn't drain well.
Course was ok.
Pace of play was extremely slow. Pro shop notified....No action taken to alleviate the slowness.
The group in front of us went around the slow group, however, we soon caught up and waited the remainder of the round.
Getting Better
Course is getting better and you can see the work put into it, its paying off! Greens are in great shape, a little slow but they roll true. Fairway still need some work but its playable, ruff is RUFF! All in all I enjoyed my round, i'll be back again.
Course renovations have worked!
The course is in great shape. The tee boxes and greens are in excellent condition. There are still a few spots in the fairway that need seeding but overall, the work has improved the course as advertised. We would like to see the rough cut more in places.
This course attracts players who play too slow.
This course attracts players who play too slow. The pace of play was ridiculously slow and there were no course marshals. Fore warned is fore armed!
This course is a great value
Excellent course but if you hit into the rough it is hard to find balls. I lost 4 balls and knew where they landed.
What a Price
So I got on for Nine dollars. What a deal ! Tee time was at 3:08, so I had five hours to get my round in. The catch was that league play started at 4:30, so the front nine was closed for that. But I haven't been playing much for the past few years (because golf's pricier than I can afford), so I was happy to just play through the back nine a few times and get my form back. My only complaint was that the rough was too heavy, so sometimes you'd hit your ball and see exactly where it landed, and still not be able to find it. But otherwise, for nine bucks, which included the cart, it was a great afternoon.
Can't beat the price.
Course was in decent shape. I like to play this course on weekdays. Too slow on the weekend because of the price...super crowded.
Drainage drainage drainage
Course was absolutely soaked on every fairways, green, and rough. And I hadn't rained for two days......
With this course you need a reverse weather forecast that confirms that it was dry for the PAST 10 days :)
Greens were really slow. rough was patchy and
Worth The Price it was not a great course but definately worth the price i paid through golf now. no clubhouse at least it wasnt open for any foor or drinks
Good Tee Boxes
The course spent $1m in upgrades and I was wondering where it was spent. The tee boxes were obviously redone but the fairways were in poor condition (soggy - poor drainage).
The greens were slow and you had to circumnavigate the goose droppings. The club house was renovated but they forgot to fix the restrooms and changing area.
It is close to work and cheap. It is good if you don't expect much but I wouldn't pay much more than the $20 I paid for the green fee.
This course does not drain well at all.
Fun course overall. Some challenging holes and many birdie holes. After rainy days, you must avoid this course because this course does not drain at all. If you have to play when wet, bring your 15th club fishing pole. Green speed was way too slow today.
Disappointed with course
Grainy, bumpy greens. Hard to make putts. Every hole groups were searching for balls. You will lose you ball hitting fairways. Standing on the tee box can't tell the difference between fairway and rough. Fairways have weeds, crabgrass. Rough is up, hadn't been cut in months. Would've been nice to know in advance a league had reserved the front 9. Not enough working carts. Waited 5-10 minutes for staff to locate cart keys.
The course was great to play pace of play wide open fairways
The pace of play was good up the 7 hole then got slow.Other then that its a great course.
Decent little course. Incredibly slow play.
No Marshals....Slow Play Ruined The Round For Me. Otherwise It Would Have Been An Enjoyable Round With My Work Buddies.
