Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
This course is good for all skill levels
Last year I played this course many many times due to great Golfnow pricing. However, this year they have gone up on the pricing to the point that I don't think it has nearly the value it had last year. It appears that the course has made a decision to reposition itself. I am not sure that is going over well. The few times I have there this year there has not been large numbers of people playing. That is an upside if you are a golfer. However, I don't know how they can survive with such low numbers. All in all, if you catch the right discount tee time it is worth the price. I believe if they were to price their summer weekends at no more than 36-40 dollars hey would return as a high demand course.
Good Course
Course is in generally good condition, fairways are C to C+, greens were B to B+. Good variety in holes (easy & challenging), liked the layout.
Not bad for the $$
Nice little course. The maintenance isn't bad. Some greens were a bit beat up but most were pretty good. The fairways were 50/50. The course is realistic about the quality of their course and charge accordingly. Twilight for $20 bucks walking, cant beat it
Great features like the bar and restaurant
I have been playing golf for only 3 months, with this in mind golf courses can be a little intimitating. The staff have always ben very helpful and put my anxiety at ease when 'm there. I have met the sprinklers a couple of time but I gues that's par for the course (no pun intended). This course is close to my house and well kept. I will continue to go until the season is over .
Great outing can wait to return.
Nice challenge and golfnow.com made it possible. Thanks
Great value, but........
I tried this course for the first time. The back nine was fairly challenging, but I didn't have the chance to play TE front nine. When I checked in, I was informed that the front nine was being aerated and was therefore unavailable for play. I would have to play the back nine, twice..since I arrived early morning, as a single, I was able to play my first 9-holes in less than 90-minutes. It was great! Unfortunately, when I made the turn to play the back nine again, the 10th tee box was backed-up with 12-golfers ahead of me. I was invited to join a threesome, who were just hitting their 2nd shot on this par 4, so as not to have to wait so long, but the pace of play was painful with an average of a 20-minute wait between holes. I decided to leave after 5-holes, since it took me 2-hours and the pace of play seemed to get slower, with every hole. I do have to say that the members who allowed me to join their threesome, were very nice & friendly. I know that this is the time of year for aerations, so I plan to give this course another try, before final judgement.
Always enjoy playing here!!!
The fairways were being mowed...and it seem like the groundsman were following me! Had a great time;other than the mowing it was a smooth round. Tee boxes were in great shape, and this is the best course for the money in my opinion. Staff is very professional and friendly.
Would not recommend
I have used this service and have now tried 4 different golf course, this is the only course that has not meet my needs. The course was poorly kept with areas of overwatering and flooding on the greens and in the fairways by mismanagement of the ground team. Then green that are hard and dry all on the same course. Improper grass cutting with cutting left on the fairways.
SLOW, Slow, slloooooooow play on an average course
Patuxent Greens is still the same course (the $1M in renovations was really just invested into the clubhouse). There is still no driving range but there is a hitting net. The greens keepers dump freshly cut grass back onto the rough. As a result, balls that are spotted in the rough are lost in the already tough rough. The sand traps vary between clay and sand. The fairways are in decent shape but could use some work. The greens are in surprisingly good shape give the state of the course, overall. The play is slow as the two times I've been there no ranger was there to enforce pace of play. The price point is good, but for all the negatives, I'd happily drive a little bit further or pay a little bit more for some more consistent conditions and a more enjoyable experience.
SLOW SLOW SLOW
Our 3some quit at #15 after 51/4 hrs. No starter. No marshall on course to control play. Fairways were in fair condition.
Greens looked good but were extremely hard and inconistent
from one to the next. I'm sure this contributed to the speed of
play because so much time was spent on them. The course
is reasonably easy. Have played this course one other time on
a weekday. Pace of play was slow then, too. 2some in 4 hrs.
But this time was ridiculous.
Great course for the price.
I've been playing this course for 3 years now and have seen significant course maintenance improvement each year. Great value for the money.
One note, and I hope it was a one time thing: when we played last week, the course marshall was badly needed: Two groups ahead of us had a 5-some. Two members in the group ahead of us shared clubs. One member was giving instruction on the course that should have been done on the range. Needless to say we had to wait on each stroke. No course marshall to enforce course rules.
Fairways need some attention.
I had a tee time of 845. when we arrived we were told it was 930 but they could probally get us out before then. the starter told us to go ahead after the group on the tee. There was notime gap between groups. there were two 23 somes infront of us and they basically played together. Did not see a ranger the entire round. We had to wait for every shot. round took over 5 1/2 hours.
nice course but rough is very challenging.
Course is in fair condition (some maintenance on going). Rough is a bit much for a weekend golfer. Good mix of trees and water make this course fun and challenging. Price was right.
Great value!
This course is very inexpensive to play but they do try and pack the course up with as many people as they can with this great bargain. To tell you the truth I wish more courses followed their game plan because I dont mind paying a little less and waitng a little longer. The holes arent as challenging as they are at a few other courses Ive played but it does have a few tricky ones. I will keep playing if they keep giving great deals on golfnow
Nice layout - appears to be a tighter layout than it plays
Good course. Maintained well. Greens run true and are generally easy to hit and hold. 18 is a gorgeous little finishing hole with just enough difficulty to keep you involved all the way to the end of the round.
Great Round
The course was in good shape for the amount of play. I real practice range would be nice but was adequate. The STAFF WAS OUTSTANDING PARTICULARLY PAUL in the ProShop. Will definitely return soon
Much improved
My son (3 1/2 yrs old) had a good time on the course. It was perfect for the rate I paid ($16) using GolfNow and I probably wouldn't pay more than $25...but, overall, was a nice course, in pretty good shape. The course was crowded, and could have used a ranger out there ensuring groups were moving alng on-pace, but we still had a good time, although we turned it in after 16 holes due to log-jam on #17, and we had to run to the O's game.
Nice course, reasonably well maintained.
This course was a bargain for a twilight tee time. The weather was perfect, especially for mid-August, so the course was a little crowded, but the pace of play was still reasonable.
Some greens showed some rough patches, and it seems that most golfers are very inconsiderate when it comes to repairing ball marks on the greens. Still, the course was nice and fun to play.
Great scenery, great layout, lacking in areas
This course was a good value for the money. It has some great / scenic holes and alot of water throughout the course. The greens were smooth and slick, putted like a dream. In some areas, the fairways and teeboxes were spotty, the rough was 100% crabgrass, and I don't believe there was a single bunker worth playing out of. With all that said though, I didn't find myself bothered by the conditions, they were just notieceable. The greens mentioned in earlier reviews with the wasp damage were not that bad at all. Noticeable damage, but definitely still playable. I would put this course on a list of good courses to play for the money, but not one of my favorites in the area. If it were a little better maintained, this course would be atop most peoples "must play"!
Very well maintained
Played course on a rainy morning yet course still was in immaculate shape. Fairly easy layout, not many challenges but cant beat the price.
