Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Won't be in my usual rotation
Where to start???
Arrived around 10:15 for a 10:45 tee time. Found out when we checked in that there was an event for most of the day that crowded things up and that they had us smack dab in the middle which made no sense. Staff in the pro shop seemed to have an attitude with other golfers complaining about the pace of play which seemed a bit unprofessional.
Then we are getting ready to warm up and the starter tells us to go off on 10 even though our tee time isn't for another 20 minutes. We asked if we could get a few minutes just to warm up and he said no - was rude about it. So we go to the 10 tee box on a par 4 and waiting for the group in front of us to play on their second shot and all we can hear is "Hit the ball...hit the ball...go ahead!" I turn around and its the starter just yelling at us over and over again to hit. There is a group on the fairway on a par 4! What did he want us to do. We obviously waited since they were still playing their second shot. The starter still yelled at us and told us to hit so we rushed and none of us were happy about the way our round started.
Took about 5 hours to play 18 holes which is awful. Golf should take 4 hours, if that. The beer cart only made its way to us twice which was horrible given that it was really hot and we were all thirsty most of the round. Didn't appear to be any rangers out to get groups to speed things up. There were your obvious groups taking way too long and should of received some attention from the staff to either speed up or leave.
The layout is very tight. Tee boxes and greens are right on top of each other. Not an extremely difficult layout. Some fairways were in OK shape. Pin placements on some greens seemed almost comical.
For the 50 bucks i spent, I'd rather play somewhere closer to bmore on a better public course. I probably won't be coming back unless its a crazy good deal.
Great for the Price I Paid!
Never played here before, but since i was only $12 i had to try it. It is a very nice course, fairways might need some working but the greens were really good. I enjoyed playing here!
The course and the greens are in great shape right now.
We had been playing this course for a while and then stopped after the last storm did a lot of damage to it. Now the fairways and the greens are in great condition. Although it is mainly flat, it is still a challenging golf course. All your clubs will probably be tested.
Keep it in short grass, and it is fun...
I am a low handicapper and I lost more balls just off fairway than I have lost in months. The course was in good shape, greens smooth but a little slow. Fairways and tees nice, tight course and if you do not keep an eye on your ball when it leaves fairway it is lost and I am talking about 2-3 yards out of fairway. Rough is tough. I enjoyed the course but understand why play can be slow because everyone is hunting for balls. Great value for money, keep it in fairway and you will be fine, I started hitting irons off tees and it was better.
You have to shoot shots to score low on this course.
I play here often and find it to be a great track. When it rains the grass is sometimes really thick which means you will lose some balls in it. But overall, it is well maintained and in excellent shape.
Bartender is great
Nice , fairly easy course for a great price. Stop in for a drink.
No rain check
Course is in fair condition. Though we did not receive a rain check after 9 holes. We were told it had rained before we teed off. Next time if there are clouds in the air I will just cancel.
The course is ok
I found the course in possibly the best shape ever. This course has been there alot of years and dont recall it looking this good. Just hope the management company maintains it.
Tough on time- great on value
Played on Father's day and I knew it would be slow. However, the Value of the golf course more than made up for the lack of speed. From the tee box to the green, the maintenance staff has done an excellent job. I might suggest that the course employ a ranger to help find tee shots, help players move faster and enjoy their round more. The lack of supervision gave some the "I paid, so I'll take my time" attitude.
An easy walking course, very flat and close proximity of greens to tee boxes made me wish I walked.
why was the course flooded ?
saturday at patuxent greens was a very slow journey. the quailty of players i was surrounded by was on the inexpieranced side, and with no marshall anywhere in sight resulted in incredibly slow play. 5+ hour round, not to mention there is an obvious drainage problem, the whole course was wet, and had an off putting odor. the course itself was not too bad, a shorter, tighter track, with water everywhere. the course potential was obvious, but the drainage needs to be addressed.
Great value
I played Patuxent Greens yesterday and on a day where the course was underwater because of a tropical storm 2 days prior, the fairways and greens were in great shape. Pace of play could've been better, but all things considered it was a bargain at $30 for the round. Will definitely be back.
Course is fine but pace of play was not good and I saw no evidence that anyone at the course was doing anything about it.
I made an online tee time and the starter got me off the 1st tee approximately 25 minutes late because there was a group of 11 or 12 golfers in the group(s) just ahead. That was just the start of a very long 18 holes - easily exceeded 5 hrs. The course was saturated with water - cart path only, very little roll on the ball even in the fairway, easy to lose balls in the rough, etc., etc. All these factors contributed to the long day but from everything I saw the course was doing nothing to increase the pace of play.
Great course for the money.
I have played this course over a dozen times. Only once has the course been in poor condition which was due to an extreme downpour and flooding the previous week. The course challenges you to put down your driver on a few holes and commands the need for accuracy for much of the back nine. I get email deals and generally never pay more than $25 a round.
good value
I booked this last minute and got a great rate at the exact time I wanted. The course was in good shape and the pace was excellent!
Keeps Getting Better
They have put money into the course and it shows. Greens are in fantastic shape as are the fairways and tee boxes. Didn't hurt that I shot my best round of the year either!
Course was well maintained and very fair
The only detractors were a slow pace of play and a very boisterous group in front of us who had no respect for other golfers. Since there were no marshals on the course, this could be greatly improved in the future with better course supervision.
It was good for experieced players.
Beautiful sights, well designed, and good maintained courses. Great for the experienced player, but challengable to beginners as several hidden watwer hazards here and there.
The course is in great shape after undergoing improvements and renovations.
The course is in excellent condition after a million dollar renovation. I really like this course for not only the challenging water on nearly every hole but also the opportunity to see wildlife such as turtles and cranes in natural settings along the way during course play.
Decent track
Flat, unassuming course with plenty to get you in trouble, but nothing so distinctive it would be considered outstanding
