Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
it was ok...
Course layout is great and with some TLC this could be a great place! However, it doesn't drain well and needs some love.
It's Back
I played this course 4 years ago and said I would not return because of the drainage issues. Then my friend called and said he booked us a tee time through golf now. With all the rain(record rainfalls in June) I though we would be in for a long day. The course was beautiful! Greens were great, staff was great, and considering the amount of rain the facility had the rest of the course was awesome for the price paid. I will be back!
Sloppy wet
Due to the high amount of rain the area has received lately, the course was partially flooded. Couldn't hit the back nine. Had the course been fully playable, it would have made the day. You can tell the course is in really good shape. A few tee boxes could use some work, but despite the conditions, had a good time.
No Drains
I played this course more than 24 hours after a heavy rain in the area. I went in and paid for the round with no words from the starter/golf shop pro. I hit my ball on the first tee box and watched it shoot water 3 feet high in all directions as it plugged the fairway. I was a little confused and thought it must have been a random puddle; wrong! The whole fairway was covered is 1-3 inches of water; completely unplayable. The shady golf shop never gave a warning or told me not to play. I played a few more hole to see how the rest was and there was large amounts of standing water on every fairway. There is obviously no drains built into the course. The course was short with narrow fairways and tiny, flat greens with terrible bunkers (solid dirt). Not worth the $30 I paid on here or the $56 they charge in person.
Pace of Play was terrible
Started the round at 12:30 finished at 6:10. It was cart path only but I still felt it played very slow. Groups were cutting in front of other groups on the course without even asking. No marshals to be seen anywhere to help improve the pace. My tee time was 12:23 but there was an hour delay due to a backup n the first tee. Luckily our group (just 2 of us ) were able to pair up with another group of 2 who had a 11:30 tee time but because of the delay got off at 12:30. Again 12:30 - 6:10 . No wonder golf is starting to lose its customer base. It was an all day event.
Avoid
Course is in a flood plain. Do not play after rain. standing water intolerable and pervasive. Hard to find a place to place your ball. Extremely disorganized at starter. 45 minutes late on scheduled tee time. Took 3 hours to play 9 holes. Intended to play 18 but left after 9. Clubhouse lounge very disorganized. Not the first time I have had this bad experience, but last.
In Good Shape
The course overall was in good shape. The greens are in great shape. The fairways were surprisingly in good shape. The only thing not in good shape were the tee boxes. The rough was thick and it was tough to find a ball if you off the fairway. I would definitely play again especially for $30 bucks. Great course for the value!!
Great Round Memorial day
The course was in excellent condition and everyone was friendly. We were paired with two players and had a great time with good pace.
Great Value but slow pace of play
Course was in great shape. Only area of concern is the tee boxes were messed up on some of the holes but your teeing off so its not like you need it to be perfect.
The pace of play was slow...... It was a Holiday but I was a little annoyed that nobody was around to keep on people to keep up the pace.... Group in front of us would take forever looking for their ball and would also not park their cart near the ball instead choosing to walk decent distances to their ball....
I will golf here again as I am a beginner and the course it pretty straight forward so eventually it can become a feel good course for me.
Decent course for the money
Course was in average shape. Greens were in good condition and the fairways were decent. Tee boxes were very beat up, even though it's early in the season. Course is fairly short but doglegs and water make it a bit more challenging. Course is a good value for the money. $32 on line rate. Pace of play was slow despite the fact that we went out at 7:15.
Good course for the money
Great cost for a pretty good course. One of the courses I play the most.
Flat track
Pleasant flat course. Easily walkable. Water comes into play on several holes. Greens were in nice shape. The rough was ready for the U.S. Open. Friendly staff. Will play again.
Good value for the money
As usual, it was in decent shape and is a good value for what you are paying.
Okay, Often over priced
This is a nice course but its not worth new rates you can book better courses within 20miles for the same or less price. Don't play after it rains other than that its nice to play if you get a rate thats in line with the course.
Average to good
I played early in the season, so naturally the conditions weren't great. But overall decent course. Basic layout though. Not very challenging. Completely flat.
a "throwback" course in more ways than one
This is easily my 4th attempt at reviewing this course, for some reason GN keeps rejecting my reviews.
The course is flat as a board with some creeks running through it, and a small lake in the middle. You're basically playing 18 holes in maybe 3 acres of marsh cleared-out to form a golf-course. It's not an easy, "gimmie" course to play, but a course like this can only be so hard without making the greens and fairways so small as to make it basically unplayable by anyone other than a scratch golfer And it's not that hard, it's actually fairly easy if you don't blade or spin your shots too badly. A beginner will find this to be a very-tough course as it is long enough, tight enough and there are enough hazards to cause a beginner problems. A player with decent ball-control will go low on it. I got bored playing it by the 8th hole. And that would not be a problem, it would be what it is, it would still be a decent round of golf and what-not, if the staff and management weren't rude. But they are. You really can't separate that from the course and review it fairly. The staff at most golf-courses are nice, helpful, polite if not obsequious and of course there is no need for them to bend over backwards to please a player, nor should there be such a need...but the staff and management here act like they are doing you some great favor to let you play their course and will remind you of that in ways both subtle and overt. Well at least they did to *me*. Not just once, not just the last time that I played here, and enough was enough. And I am not paying them $50 for that attitude for this course again. Nor would I recommend that anyone else do that either.
Basically in my opinion the course is not worth the greens-fees all else aside, and even if it was the attitude of the staff and management would keep me from wanting to play it again or even to recommend it. I've seen course-management at other courses that was a bit "frosty'", sure sometimes they can get a bit standoffish, curt, crisp, you name it. I don't expect the staff and management to be like the Disney characters at the Magic Kingdom.. But to be outright disrespectful? Come on. That's someone saying either that they don't really want you back on the course, that they really have no idea what "people skills" are or they have some vastly-overinflated idea of what they are doing, in running a golf-course. I suppose that out of all the golf courses that I've played, out of all the times that i have played golf, there has to be at least one bad-apple in all that. And this is definitely that bad-apple. By far the rudest staff and management that I've ever had to deal with on a course and I have played golf across most of the country over 20 years. I don't ask for much, but I do demand that the staff and management do not disrespect me blatantly and overtly. And then act like it's no big deal. There is not a single golf course in the world that I am so addicted to that i would play it again not to mention pay to play it again after the way that I was treated there the last time, especially not THIS 5500 yard course in a drained swamp surrounded by houses often at most 20 yards from the greens and tee-boxes (seriously I'm teeing-off on #18 and there's a real-estate agent talking to a couple on the deck of a house, in a row of houses, no more than 20 yards behind me) for which they want to charge $50 for 18 holes and a cart.
And sorry but I'm not going to review this course without saying that, because that is an accurate summary of my experience playing there. The course would be a mild joke without that pleasure of an experience. With it, it was a nightmare. I won't even give it a "fair" overall. If the staff and management had not been rude to me, and if they were not usually borderline-rude, it might qualify for a "fair" overall rating. In this case, no way.
great times
First time at Patuxent. Greens were great for November and course well maintained. Drainage work being done was loud, but its nice to see owners spending money to improve! I will be back in the spring
would rethink
I think they over booked my tee time was 12:08 didn't get to tee off until 1:10 and then didn't get to finished the tee box was full but the 10th tee box was empty should have sent some off the back I like the course just a little upset that we didn't get to finish. Got in 13 holes
take your Money and run Course
Got off 30 minutes late, pace of play was extremely slow, no marshall to help pace of play. It took over 3 hours to play 9 holes. I left becasue I wouldn't be able to finish before dark with 2 groups still waitingat #10 before we could play the back nine. with an 1130 tee time no reason we should not have been able to finish
The course has great potential
Course is in very good condition but it is extremely slow. A marshal is needed to keep up the pace of play.
