Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Decent course at a good price
I've played this course a couple of times now and it's a nice little parkland track. The course is very flat but makes up for it with a few doglegs, a healthy smattering of bunkers, and water in play on quite a few holes. It plays fairly short from the men's tees and is pretty walkable. The course is in decent shape, a couple of fairways are in bad condition (10th and 18th particularly) and the sand in the traps can be a little too firm, but overall it's better than your average neglected muni. Considering the relatively cheap price (think I paid less than $35 for my last weekend round) I think it might be one of the better values in the DC area.
course Marshall
The Marshall would tell you that you need to speed up when a group was still in front or on the green
(Didn't want to hit down on someone) wish I would of gotten his name made play horrible felt rushed for no reason the group behind us wasn't even in sight my last time to play there. Played there more than 5 times and this was the worst
Great course for the money
The deal came out to $22 on a Sunday for a tee time of 10:38. That's a great deal for the area. The course looks great for the price as well. The holes tend to be somewhat close and parallel to each other which tends to increase the amount of "FORE" you hear. The course played very slow as there were multiple groups backed up. At one point we had a twosome behind our threesome that asked to play through and then they joined the twosome in front of us which dramatically slowed down our play even more. That may or may not have been our fault for letting them through though. Other than that, this course is great for the money and the staff is friendly.
Way too slow
Due to a very good Sunday afternoon weather, the course was so crowded. But that should not definitely be the excuse for slow plays. But I couldn"t put a finger on where it all started because all I saw was the group in front of another one in front and another, they all backed up. I never saw a single Marshall who would be facilitating the pace of play. We ended up playing only 15 holes because we had other things scheduled for the evening.
No Ranger
Ranger was not around pace of play was very very slow
Good Value
I was able to play on a Sunday for under $30, and while the course isn't breathtaking, it is a good value. If you are local and don't want to spend an arm and a leg or don't want to play a dog track, then this is a good course to pick. Also, this is definitely a walker friendly course, next time I may not ride.
Great Balue, but be patient
If you're looking to start perfectly on time and have on pace golfers before and after you, go to a country club. If you want great value and are there to have fun, this is a great place for 40 bucks a round.
good course
The environment is great. I am new to the game. This course will challenge you. It has tight sloping greens, pin locations are tricky, so you must be accurate. The rough is ROUGH so stay in the fairway.
I will be back again and again! Watch the par 3's and 5's....
Good value for under $30
Got out as a single on a weekday twilight rate - with a cart - for $26.
Thunderstorms rolled through the evening before, and the course is low-lying/marshy as is, so there were some very wet areas.
I was hoping for a quick round, and seemed well on my way to one until I caught up to a foursome that insisted on playing from the back tees/lining up every put from 5 angles. I ended up skipping two holes completely to get around them and finish in under 4 hours - It would have been a 4 1/2 hours or longer had I waited.
All in all, good value for the money and I'll be back to play again.
Good Overall
The rough was definitely US Open like at Congressional.
Patuxent greens
Staff were fantastic, one of our group was running late and staff fitted us in after our allotted tee time with no issues. Course is in great condition.
HIT THE FAIRWAY
good overall experience , slow play seems to be the norm at this course
Course Layout is Bad
Compared to other courses in the area, this courses layout was very basic. I felt like everyone was right on top of each other. I felt like I played the same hole 18 times. I agree with the other reviews about the rough being too high. Lost many balls that should have been easily found. Very tough hitting out of there. I believe my golf crew is one and done at this course.
don't waste your money
Horrible golf course ever!!
Lots of bees on the greens. Fairways are horrible condition.
Charged more than 10% tax.
Terrible
This place is a goat track...avoid! The rough is 6 inches high. The greens are bumpy. The fairways were sparse and muddy. And the layout is mickey mouse. I wouldn't play here again for free.
Nice layout - unplayable rough!
This course good be a decent place to play, but the rough was set-up for the US Open, not a casual weekend round of golf. Every shot not in the fairway required an incredible amount of searching, which after a few holes becomes very tiresome. Even if you found your ball, it took all the strength you had to hit the ball out of it. Throw in extremely slow greens and spotty tee box conditions and you've got the overall poor rating I've given this place. No player in our group enjoyed this course, and we all decided it was "one and done" for this place.
Patuxent Green
The course has significantly improved since the last time I played. It was good to see the money put into the course was well spent. Unfortunately, my game is still as bad as it was when I last played as well. Great bang for the buck using with the reduced price. I would certainly play again.
Great Value for Money Course
I have been playing at this course for over 2 years now. Great value for money. Specially the pace of round is fast during the weekdays. One can finish under 3 1/2 Hours.
PReturn of Patuxent!!
A while back this course couldnt catch a break. Diseases and bad managmement led t its downfall. now Patuent is back. Great conditions and ony getting better. great rack for practice rounds and get togethers for cheap!Play it during weekdays.
Fathers day
Course was in great condition but pace of play very slow. On a weekend they shouldn't allow walkers until after twilight. The round took six hours to play
