Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Pace
When are there fivesomes allowed to play.
not sure if this is a members benefit but the pace of play was horrible.
the fivesome seemed like they were beginners and they were trying to play from the tips. there wasnt a course marshall around and nobody monitoring.
like playing the course but there can be improvements done.
lets have some cart girls coming around with snacks and beverages to help out the waiting times behind fivesomes.
lots of water, but you can score!
If you keep it the fairway you can score. the rough is long but fair. This course is a short hitters dream and is in great shape.
Florida style golf course
I took a vacation recently in Florida, miami beach. What struck me as different from courses in this area was how much lakes and ponds featured. Patuxent has changed my perception of that. Very beautifully designed course with water everywhere. The only reason for not giving them 5 stars is the drainage around the course is so bad. Too many puddles of water on fairway.
Worst conditions I've played in a long time.
No wonder i got a deal. The greens were like rugs and the rough was like trying to find your ball in the weeds. Miss the fairway and you had to full out search for your ball. There was some flooding from rain and I know there was somethings that they could not take care of due to it but it was downright terrible. I feel like they owe me some Pro V1s as many as I lost in just rough and large pools of standing water. This course should not have even been open with those conditions. On top of that the pace of play was unbearably slow. There were multiple instances where we had two groups waiting on the same tee box for one group in the fairway. The ranger made a trip around and did nothing about it. It was terrible and am never going back.
This course is over rated!
Poorly managed, 7 hour round due to speed of play and over booking.
Course is not taken care of, tee boxes are terrible and bunkers haven't been maintained. There is no second cut in fairways, just bad fairway to rough.
Will never go back
Hidden Gem
Patuxent Greens is a nice little hidden gem that is an outstanding value. I played early in the morning (7:30), so the pace of play was exceptional once I played through on hole 3. It rained the night before minimally and there was a misting going on my whole front nine but there was not much puddling going on. Greens were really wet but that was because I played just before they were rolled and swept for the day. All things considered, this was an excellent experience and I will always try to get out earlier because I do not like slow play. I have played here on other occasions where things get a little backed up on tee 1 and you are miserable the rest of the round. Of note, this course allows walkers and riders to be paired and you never know what you will get in terms of pace of play because of it. If you are in no particular rush and have patience, this course is probably one of the best values around for 18 holes and a cart.
Nice pace of play, decent layout
Course has been around a while and we thought we would go back out there. It was a sunday noon tee time, and we thought it would be 5 hours plus, but it was almost less than 4 hours 30 minutes. All the holes are close together mostly, so it is a good walking course, a lot of dogleg holes and a bit of water on 16 holes. I would say play it in the spring before it turns to complete rock and dries out for the summer. It gets a lot of play so don't expect top notch conditions, but it is a fun course.
Great course!
This was by far my favorite course that I have played in this area. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The course was in great condition except for some muddy spots. Overall I would recommend this course to anyone looking to have a good time out. Pace of play seemed great also.
Mixed Bag
I play Patuxent on a fairly regular basis (6-12 times a year). If you go into it expecting to get about what you pay for (usually $18-$22 GolfNow hot deal) then you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The course is in decent shape and is usually packed to the gills. They never have a starter so the inmates run the asylum, but people usually stick fairly close to their allotted tee times.
This is a nice enough course to play regularly, I would just never pay more than $25, and never go after any amount of rain the drainage (though better than it used to be) is still terrible.
Get What You Pay For!
It's about as good as you can expect from a mid-city track. Nothing special and plenty of slow-playing hacks taking forever to locate sliced, hooked or shanked balls. The greens will take another couple weeks before they're reasonable to putt on and if you can avoid the geese droppings, good luck.
One of the best in area
Compared to other courses in the area, this is a well kept course. Greens are well manicured, fairways are in great condition. The only problem you will find is leaves, just like anywhere else.
Mr. P. Crump
I have played Patuxent Greens several times. The course has 16 holes where water comes into play. It challenging and you must control your shots to be able to score. I normally play the blue tees and score between 84-89. The greens are slow at times which can make a big difference in your score.
Great price, great people and a good golf course
Good golf course at a fair price. Played 18 holes on Friday and Sunday. Greens and Fairways are in good shape for this time of year.
Average Area Course
Play was a little slow because of a 45minute+ frost delay that got everyone started close together. The Range is terrible - just mats with a "cage" of netting around it. The back nine is a lot of fun towards the end, lots of tough shots required coming down the stretch.
Greens were nice
The course was in good condition with the new upgrades and the greens rolled very well. Nice deal thru golf now!
Course has several really challenging hole. Pace of play is a problem.
I generally play Patuxent Greens 3-4 times a year. The course is challenging with water on many holes and lots of wildlife to enjoy while playing. However, this last time and other times on this course the pace of play is very slow. It seems this course attracts a large amount of newer players who do not know the etiquette of golf or the basics of fast play. The group in front of us had 2 players who took multiple tee shots and walked to their ball without clubs in hand. I feel PG should have an on course marshall to assist players in the art of faster play.
Course under water
Should have let the golfers know that holes 11-17 were under water and closed due to the recent string of rainy days. Had no desire to play the same nine holes twice.
Come play with the wildlife!
Played this course for the 2nd time with 3 guys I know. Lot of big hedgehogs out there. Not having a starter was kind of weird. No back up though as it was very early. Course was very wet but it did pour the night before. Some holes were in need of better cutting along the fairways but overall no big deal. Watch your balls (lol) as the rough is deep. We had no long wait for the most part but seeing a ranger here and there would have been good for players to see and keep in mind so they can keep up pace. Overall it's very scenic with some challenging holes like 9, 13, 14. #1 takes a good high shot over trees to get on in 2.
