Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Good value if you're a straight shooter
Greens and fairways were in great condition.
If you went off them, not hard to do because course is narrow on most holes. Then you're in trouble. Lots of leaves along with thick grass for fringe. Looking for balls really slowed our pace of play. Lost balls we thought we knew exactly where they were. Found lots of others that were abandoned also could use a starter as well. Folks getting backed up on 1 and 10.
Have fun with your 6 hour round
This is the second time I have played this course. Yes, the rates are solid, but not worth it. Avoid at all costs.
On top of losing your ball just in the rough, the pace of play at this course is unbearable. Both times I've played have been 6 hour rounds. Seriously, its worth it.
I will never play here again, and will never even consider recommending it to a friend.
Great Value
It is a nice course overall ... it doesn't drain very well after heavy rains so it is soggy sometimes and they were doing some work on the 10th tee and didn't have a starter/marshal working when we teed off so the pace was a little off that day but the 18 bucks hot deal it is a great.
Challenging but fair
The course was well groomed except for the sand traps, which needed attention. The greens were average speed for late October. Overall, this was an enjoyable course that had water in play on most holes.
Overall Decent Value
My biggest gripe would be they herded everyone out onto the course and don't monitor the pace of play. I had a foursome in front of me that backed up the entire course and I never saw a Marshall all day. Condition of the course was average with some fairways that had bare dirt in spots.
Less than average
Attitude of the staff needs an overhaul. Tee times are spaced only 7 mins. apart so there's a big back-up on the first tee. No elevations. Very narrow. Some tees are too close to previous greens. Water hazards should be rated bio-hazardous - so much algae.
Great Golf Outing
Despite living five minutes from Patuxent Greens and being an avid golfer this was my first time playing the course. The tee boxes and fairways were in great shape but don't stray from the fairway. The rough is brutal and will penalize you on your approach shots. The course is fun to play with a great combination of long, short, and medium length holes. The price was great and our foursome finished 18 holes in four hours (we played on Sunday during the Redskins game).
SLOW!!!!!
6 hours round. Unbelievalby slow. No marshalls on course to moveplay along.
Challenging Round
It's fall and aeration time so we were overwhelmed by the plugs on the fairways. It was also a beautiful day that overcame any nuisances like plugs. Course Superintendent selected the most challenging hole/cup positions on every green. I don't think we had an even lie cup position on any hole. Most tee boxes had grass, the greens were mostly soft and only two fairways were in bad shape with #10 being the absolute worst. Cart girl came by often so kudos to staff.
Patuxent is a great local course that strives to maintain the course. It's a bit of a ride to get here but I try to play it twice a month.
Easy course with a few issues
This course was a lot of fun to play. The course is completely flat with no blind shots, but the staff did their best at making it more difficult by putting pin placements behind every possible obstacle. Otherwise the course is quite easy. Great for beginners.
Fairways had recently been aerated, including a few which had not had their cores vacuumed or broken down. For those that were clear, they were in great shape, though there were quite a few wet and swampy areas which had me confused as it had not rained recently.
Greens had clearly been aerated maybe a week earlier and were growing back nicely. I had a few weird roles from aeration holes that hadn't fully grown back, but not enough to seriously affect the outcome of my round.
Tee boxes were generally in good shape, though there were a few that were quite chewed up. Most chewed up boxes did have sand and seed in the divots, so kudos to the players and staff for keeping up with that.
The course is full of water hazards. I enjoyed the layout quite a bit, especially the par 3 over the water (11th hole maybe?) and the last 200 yards of the 18th.
Oversold and slow
The course is chewed up in a lot of areas. It seems like maintenance is being neglected. The tee times were oversold, even though we showed up on time there were 2 groups lined up on the tee ahead of us. We waited approximately 10 minutes per tee box. The first ranger we saw was when we made it to the last hole which was 5+ hours after we started. Look elsewhere to play, not worth the money or hassle.
Nice course
Nice municipal course, Bermuda fairways and tee boxes. Course was just aerated which I was unaware of when I booked so putting wasn't the best but not terrible either. Except for 10 fairways were fine! Tee boxes were in really good shape as well. Course seemed a little wet to me and I don't remember significant rainfall in the past 5 days. Real big downfall was the pace of play, took 5 hours to play my round and I went off at 2:15. It was one group that was the culprit but nothing was done all round, Marshall drove by once but didn't say a word! Not a bad course, esp. For the price I played!
Good course
It played well. The greens were rolling ok in spite of the recent aeration. Recent rain had the course a bit soft, but made it fun to play.
Nice Play
The course was in pretty good condition. All greens were great. The rough seemed like it needed to be cut down a tad. Shouldn't be so tough to find your ball 15 yards away from the tin. Otherwise it was great. Finished in about 2:30 as single.
This course is player friendly
I recommend this course it's player friendly and great to play
Slow Pace of Play
There were rangers driving around but not making any suggestions to the slower players to speed up their pace. I'll give the course the benefit of the doubt being that it was a holiday weekend but if in the area again, I will choose another course.
the course has better drainage than in the past
The course is in good condition. Tee boxes still need work.
nice course challenge
I played this with my brother n law who live in the area. Great Golf Now special at very competitive price tee time 10:08 in which we tee off early. The starter was great the course was in tip top shape. The greens moderate speed.
Very thick
Rough is too thick greens need work greens arr in rough shape narrow railways.
Beware of the Deal and the Grounds Crew
Day got off to a rough start when the pro shop didn't want to honor the coupon they emailed me which is why I selected the course. I followed the directions on the coupon and made my tee time online but according to the pro shop the coupon didn't apply to online tee times. Then why did the coupon tell me to make a tee time online? Anyway, he split the difference and gave me $5 off. Then, I had a very enjoyable round going when I got the box on 12 and ran into a maintenance worker oblivious to his noise making ability. After waiting for him to finish blowing the box off, he then backed up his cart complete with warning beeps in the middle of my back swing, prompting my worst swing of the day. Dude was clueless. Decent course, and a foursome got around in less than 4 hours. I would play it again so long as the price is less than $30 with a cart.
