Nice Layout!
Enjoyed playing Timbers today, course was in good shape and the pace of place was awesome, 3 2/2 hours for our threesome.
No GPS
I like this course, but the absence of GPS on the golf carts makes the course harder to play. Yardage is not clearly marked on the course, and if you don't already know the layout of a hole, it isn't clear how the hole plays and there isn't much info on the scorecard.
Great Course, But Another Bad Experience
Timbers at Troy is only 15 minutes from my house so is very convenient. And, the course layout is a nice mix of easy and tough holes. The condition of the course can be sporadic, but today the course was in mostly good condition, except for the usual wet section just in front of the penalty area on #10 and the many many unfixed divots in the fairways (which are the golfers' fault because there is sand on the carts). The bunkers are extremely nice...their bunker renovation of several years ago is holding, because these bunkers had nice sand and a nice depth of sand. The greens were exceptional today as well...rolled fast and true. From tee to green, overall was in good condition. My issue is the same one I've had every time I play here--this course doesn't particularly like women! We were told 2 hours per nine (when the card publishes 2 hrs 15 minutes per nine), and to keep up with the group in front. That's okay, all four of us women have single or low-teen handicaps and play a lot of tournament golf, so we know how pace of play works. However, we waited on the group in front of us every hole, every shot. We, as well as the groups behind us, got behind as a result. We finally played through them and finished the front nine in 2 hours 3 mins! Because of that group, we never saw anyone in front of us and, of course, no one behind us...however, the marshal comes up to us on #12 and tells us we have to catch up with the group in front of us (which we've never seen to this point) and we're on pace to finish in under their 4.5 hr published time. On #13, I finally asked the guy if he went to the groups behind us and asked them to catch up to us, to which he said, "no, I never saw anyone behind you." So...I come away from that interaction that we were spoken to because we were women and he didn't speak to anyone else. If he was trying to monitor pace of play, he should have continued to travel behind us after speaking to us and speak with every group that followed about catching up, but he camped out on #13 and watched us play. And, we finished in 4 hours and 15 minutes...under the published pace. This happens all the time when I play Timbers, except when I'm with men. Frankly, I'm going to patronize courses with better customer care and less discriminatory practices.
Worst managed golf course in Maryland
I play this course a lot and enjoy the layout but management finds a new way to disappoint each time I go. This time around they aerated the greens without any mention on their website/pro shop/or from the starter. And of course they are charging full price! I wish the course was handled better but it's been like this since I've started playing here.
Course was in great shape and was really impressed. Great fairways, tee boxes, greens. Give the grounds keepers some love.
I understand it was a great day, but I think the course could of done a better with pace of play. I think when you wait
On GolfNow, I was happy that the course made the distinction this year between the price for riding and walking, but they have not done so on their website.
Though on Timbers website...This is one of the only courses that markets a price of walking and then hits with cart fees at the end of your purchase.
It's a significant increase and makes you think less of the course. Just be straightforward both on GolfNow and your Website
Fun track but it’s pretty tight if you aren’t hitting it straight
