Weekday
The course was empty for a weekday. We were able to maintain a steady pace and really enjoy the day. We were slowed down a few times as the ground crew watered various greens, but otherwise an enjoyable day!
a gem in the rough
The course itself is probably not a lot better than most "neighborhood courses" but it was quite respectable and a little harder than most such courses that I've played and quite a decent challenge. This is not some mid-30s handicap retiree course. Now don't get me wrong it's not super-hard either, but you do have to have some game to play this course well. The pace of play was excellent when I played it in late March really there was still snow & ice on the 1st fairway :) but it was warm that day and in the high 50s-low60s not many people on the course but it was well into its Spring growth with cherry blossoms and the round was really nice. Though i got the impression that this is not a cheap course, GolfNow saved me from the uglier side of that. I would definitely recommend it.
Solid Course
As of May 2015 the greens, tee boxes and faiways are in great shape. Course has always provided a challenge but 4.5-5 hr pace of play can be expected. The bunkers need some work, they are compact and some even had rocks in them. To be fair the groundskeepers where doing significant bunker work on one hole so a bunker refurbish may be in the works. Overall course is playing well.
great course to play but a little over priced and no senior or military discounts provided
the staring hole #1 is a tough hole to start the round with. If you don't hit it straight, you are going to be in trouble.
Short but challenging
Some shirt par 4 make you want to go for it but can put on the big number
Very Nice Track
The course was in great shape, had a few blind tee shots but very forgiving layout!
Slow
Very challenging golf course but the pace of play was completely unacceptable. We quit after 16 holes and we were already at 5 hours 20 minutes.
Feb golf!!
Not bad, as with most public courses in tje area, should be less $$
Over priced...slow pace of play
This is a decent course for this area. It is extremely over played and over priced. They can get away with charging what they do purely based off of location. I have played this course several times and this time of year it is in the best shape only because it is not being over played. The bunkers at this course are embarrassing at any time throughout the year. Little or no sand. It is a fun layout but needs to be better taken care of to charge what they do. There has been several times where I have showed up for a tee time and there were no carts available. We literally had to wait for people to finish on 18 and grab their cart.
Great Fall Day at Timbers!!!
Course was in pretty good condition and the greens were running fast and true.
Excellent Value for the GolfNow deal
I paid about $37/person, include GolfNow fees on a nice Saturday (around noon), normally $55. The course was in reasonable shape considering it's late October and rained heavily a few days before. Traps were a mess but greens and fairways were in good shape. We were paired up with another 2-some but they were so slow, we eventually just broke off on our won. Played the front 9 in 2 hours. The back 9 bogged down to close to 2 1/2 hours. Fun design with lots of variety and elevation changes. Some long and short holes, a few forced carries. Houses are not very noticeable. Overall, a fun day of golf.
Must play course
Had a great time .paired up with some very nice people. Course in great shape. Even had a leaf blower that was awesome. A must play course. Great prices on golf now. Got more then my money worth.
We played in the pouring rain
I play this course quite often. I like it a lot because it is fun to play and nearby. The course is always in good shape except their sand traps. The sand in many traps is hard and have rocks. It seems they tried to fix them this year but still some have problems. So bad that you can't play from the traps sometimes. It started to pour when we teed off yesterday, but the proshop insisted that the course was open and we couldn't back out. It rained for three holes before the weather cleared up. We don't mind playing, and actually played quite well, but I wish they would be nice to give us a rain check at the beginning because we are regulars there.
Good challenging course
Timbers is always a fav of mine. Good layout with some challenging carries but they have plenty of grip it and rip it holes as well. I love courses where you have to think about what to use off the box. You can get penalized if you try to use your driver on every hole.
The course conditions are typically pretty good. Most folks fix their divots on the greens and the grounds crew keeps things well cut - no losing balls in crazy ruff.
Practice facilities are just ok. They have a range, chipping green and putting green
Better than expected!!!!!
After reading previous reviews I had mixed feelings. Their rate seemed a little steep. Some people felt the course wasn't in very good shape and pace was a little off. I found a good price on Golfnow.com and decided to try it out since I was vacationing just a few minutes away. Turned out better than expected. I was greeted at the pro shop with a smile and asked if I had played there before. I said first time so he told me a little about the course, gave me a few directions, and I was on my way. I grabbed a cart and headed to the driving range. They had mats and natural grass at the range however the natural grass area was a bit chewed up. I blame mostly the golfers for not filling in their divots after they're done though. Putting greens were in good shape and then I headed to #1. The night before I printed off some tips from the golf courses web site of do's and don't for each hole ( I love it when courses take time and do this) because it's so helpful for a first timer. So I got to #1, pulled out my tips, and swang away. I played alone with a 3some in front of me and at one point they waved me on but I declined since they were moving along at a good pace and I was in no hurry. I was enjoying the course layout, terrain, wildlife, trees, etc. There were a few holes where I played 2 balls but kepted up. I finished in just a tick under 4 hrs. NICE!!!! As for the course, it played great. Fairways and greens were in good shape and the consistent elevation changes in the holes kept you guessing. They don't provided GPS on the carts so if you have one bring it. I used mine plenty. Cart paths run thru out the course and there's ample spacing from greens to the next tees. Overall it was a good afternoon.
Good course for the money
Timbers has an excellent layout and is always well maintained. The staff is friendly and eager to make you round a good experience.
Very Challenging, Not Impressive
I drove to the course with a very high expectations and received a very average experience. While the layout of the course was very challenging, the condition of the green were average and the bunkers were below average on some holes.
The greens speed were great
Irrigation was running on the 2nd tee and had to wait. The bunkers are in poor shape pea gravel everywhere first few holes weren't even raked by the trap rake. He showed up on hole 3 while we were on the green. The tees were beat up divots weren't being filled. A lot of goose grass on tees, rough and some green edges. There are alot of worn out areas over time that haven't been addressed from cart wear. For 70$ if felt like it wasn't worth the price especially being a Howard a County course. This county is one of the richest counties in the country.
It's in good shape
I've played Timbers a number of times over the years and it's in the best condition that I've ever played it right now. The course was in excellent shape from Teti green and is an excellent value .
Nice Course
Nice course with some challenging holes. The tight fairways leave little room for error and the greens can be tough to read. Played three times and will go back again.
