The course is suitable for them, not for golf right now Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 05/06/2018
Course conditions were fair, pace of play horrible
Course could use a little TLC, tee boxes, fairways and greens were a 7 out of 10, fringe and rough were a 4-5. Staff was friendly and accommodating when we alerted them to the group in front of us having a slow pace of play. The group in front of us were hitting multiple balls, hanging out too long on the greens and playing from the tips even though one player in their group didn’t even have clubs and it was their second time playing (we chatted with them to try and get them to move things along). While this is no fault of the staff or course, I feel they could have done a better job of regulating this group and other groups in front that were not following traditional golf etiquette and pace of play. On the back nine we were behind a group of teenagers and saw them drive their cart across the green, again no fault of the staff but it’s sad that there are people playing on courses that have no business being there. If the staff is allowing these types of people to play on their course then there should be more rangers out on the course making sure they are following the rules and not impacting the other people that are following rules and keeping pace of play.
Great course!
My first time playing here, I’m not going out to shoot a good score, so it was more than I need in a course. Good conditions, friendly people, golf nerds would hate that the greens were long and slow, but I don’t care about things like that. Will 100% play again.
Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Links at Challedon.
Been Several Years Since I've Played Here
I used to play Challedon each month, but I stopped playing when they required paying in advance. This was my first trip back since they stopped requiring that. I have mixed feelings about the round today. The good news: staff was welcoming and nice, most of the fairways were green (albeit the grass a little long), and the bunkers I was in had nice sand. The bad news: the tee boxes needed TLC and cutting, many fairways had spots without good grass, there were many bunkers which were holding water, and the greens were very long and slow. They had workmen out on #8 and #18 and they were running around in their carts with little regard for the players (noise level), and talking the entire time we were putting (on #8). It was just rude and they didn't seem to know to be quiet when people are playing. It did take us 4 hours and 20 minutes to finish which isn't terrible, but we were behind the ladies league and there didn't seem to be any marshalling--we simply ran into the back of them. I did receive a senior rate, but my fellow players paid $67 (no military discount) and I don't think the course was worth that given the current shape. It's almost an hour drive, so I probably will wait until next year to travel back up. It's a great layout, though...nice variety of hole shapes and lengths.
We appreciate your honest feedback and apologize for any inconvenience experienced during your round, especially regarding the maintenance issues and disturbances. Your comments are invaluable for our improvement, and we hope to host you for another round in the future.
Useless Marshall
Busy Friday. Course was backed up every hole. No big deal. Except we got hit into all day. First we asked the players to stop. They didn’t. Marshall drove past so we mentioned it to him to please reiterate that they need to not hit into us. Not only did they laugh about it while we were on the next tee box, they ramped it up. They even hit into us on the green of a par 3. Turns out they are members of the course. Marshall apologized but said there’s nothing he could do. Don’t waste your time at this course. It’s deep in good ol’ boy country.
On my not to play list again
Been playing this track on and off since it opened since its the closest course to my house. Many different owners and mgmt.
Seemed like it was getting better again but after yesterdays round I don't think so. They are just about making money and not taking care of course or players.A 5 hour round in 95+ degrees isn't fun. Funny that signs on every cart say a 4 hour round is expected. They said there was a tournament with inexperienced players that slowed everything down. Why have a tournament on a Sunday morning? Won't be back anytime soon.
