"Approach" shot on 13 from middle of "fairway". You have to hit through or around the power poles from 250 out Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 11/21/2012
Nice Round
Greens were in great shape, short and true. Rest of the course was also very good. Golf and cart for $12 with GolfNow. Simple check-in, load up the cart and hit the first tee, all in under 5 minutes!
Good course
Played after heavy rain...fairways and rough were a little heavy but greens were great....didn't care for couple holes which had 90° turns but handled them okay...tee boxes need some TLC...good value through Golf Now
Great course for your buck
I love this course because it is out in the country and very laid back. Not many amenities but the course is always well kept and a joy to play
Great course for the price
I play here a lot because the course is great for the value. Not much on amenities but the staff is courteous and the pace of play is very good. I travel for almost 1 hour because the course is laid back and tee times are staged with plenty of time between start times so the pace of play is very good with very few backups. I recommend this course if you like the slow country setting
Bad experience
Before I explain the title let me just say that the course and staff are not the problem!
The problem was a very slow foursome that had two middle-aged men and two elderly men... not only were they slow (which wasn't the real issue) the were the rudest divas I've ever seen on a course!
If they were good at golf I might have over looked their behavior... but they refused to let us skip ahead because they didn't want my party of TWO to hold them up all day... so, we skipped ahead to the next hole in front of them (12). By the time we were putting on 18 they were still on 14 and just coming to the box in 15!
The guys were basically drunk from what I could tell... I let the staff know but I think it was one of the part-timers... idk!
Needless to say, if you're an average golfer you'll find the course pretty busy, in good shape and very fun to play. Just hope you don't get stuck behind the drunk, delusional, rude Tiger Woods wanna-be (you know the type-really expensive clubs and has a +30 handicap).
Sorry... but, I'll likely avoid a return trip! Shame too... the course and staff are really great!
Very bare bones
The majority of the front 9 is played in a giant field. You can spray it just about anywhere. The greens were fairly slow, but had incredible undulations to them. This made ball positioning very important. Back 9 is more through the woods. Fairways were generally in fairly terrible shape. Greens were decent enough to putt on. Staff was very pleasant and friendly. Clubhouse (if you can call it one) was very, very, very low frills. There are better budget courses available.
One thing that I hardly ever mention to others are the paths. Unfortunately, it needs to be mentioned here. The cart paths on the back 9 are an absolute catastrophe. Don't bring new sticks out here if you don't want a whole season's worth of bag chatter!
Great price. Beautiful greens.
This golf course is very laid back. The greens are in excellent shape and they are very challenging. Great course for the money!!'
Fun course with elephants buried under the greens
The greens on the first nine are pretty wild. Lots of blind tee shots an interesting approaches. if you live nearby, you should definitely play this course. Very picturesque!
Nice course for the money.
I have played here many times. I keep coming back because it's a nice course for the money. The greens had recently been aerated, but very playable. Even though it was wet, they still let you drive carts off the cart paths. They said just avoid the wet areas, I wish other courses would say that. If you like playing high end courses or paying over $50 a round, then this course is not for you. But if you love to play golf and enjoy a pleasant place to play, this course is fun and a challenge.
Value for the Money
Played here again - and this course delivers solid value for the money.
Drawbacks - bare bones clubhouse with one over-worked guy today who had to run the register, clean the carts and serve in the kitchen. Tee boxes could use some serious work.
Plus factors - fun layout, course in good shape (for the amount paid), nice greens, relaxed company, and great value for the money.
Greens Were Great
This course was decent for the cost. There should be some heads up though; about the bug issues that they have here with the gnats or flies all over the course. I know golf is played outside, so bugs are to be expected, but this course is covered with them from hole 1 all the way to 18. That being said, once you put the plastic shield up on the golf cart to serve as a barrier of protection, the course plays decent. The greens are small and quite challenging and are in great condition. Nice course to work on shot making, as you have to think your way around some holes. Played it solo. Won't bring anyone else out to play here and I probably won't play it again. More about the bugs, less about the course.
Understaffed and Past Its Prime...
This course used to be a nice, relaxing way to spend a Saturday afternoon. A friend and I went to play one Saturday morning last month and the poor younger gentleman behind the register in the pro shop was doing it all...getting the carts...taking the greens fees...even working the snack bar! He had "zero" help!
On top of that, the course was in "so-so" shape...nothing special. I have paid much less for far better in this area in Maryland!
When I returned the cart in the afternoon, there was an older gentleman in the pro shop...asked him if there was anyone else on staff and he said "he didn't need anyone else because it wasn't very busy." It wasn't busy then, but as I told him, the younger gentleman worked his "butt" off in the morning!
Don't know if they are under new management or not, but whomever manages this course needs to take a look at their staffing!
Used to be a regular, but until I see some positive reviews I will stay away!
Great Value Course
We have not been playing regularly. Therefore this is a great course to play especially its value. Course condition is not bad. It is just not maintained as well but overall it is great value course.
A halfway-decent course but the "amenities" are lame
This is not a bad course...not a good course either. It's about average for a course with some good holes and some average holes. But the course has two big problems. First it has greenskeeper-fouling in a major way. Second the "clubhouse" is just lame. weak. Pathetic. It's little more than a dingy trailer on the side of the cart-shack. Yes it has a small kitchenette where you can buy beer and food but that's the only really serviceable part of the "clubhouse". The rest of it I'd just shut down one weekend and fix it up. Even a coat of paint would do wonders for it, but it would still be small and the bathrooms would still be a disgrace. This is two levels below the worst clubhouse that I've ever seen at a golf-course, I know that there are gas-stations out in the boonies that have better bathrooms and "dining areas" than they have here. It's really just pathetic how bad it is but they have these two sweet old ladies working in there and they are very nice.
Golf? Oh otherwise beyond that it's a decent course, nothing I'd drive much out of my way to play but at least it's plenty long enough and challenging enough, up on a mountain prarie with some trees, more on some holes and less on others, fairly tight waste around the greens and fairways but still fairly wide fairways and approachable greens, with some decent verticality and a good mountain breeze on many holes. A few holes back deep in the woods and some holes near a line of houses. Nothing in bad shape, just nothing outstanding, certainly a serviceable, decent round of golf. You're not going to be shorted on the quality of golf here for what they charge. If anything you're just going to want to get in, play your round and get out. This is not a place to spend time before or after your round.
Pleasant Surprise
Let me get this out of the way first: this is not a premier top dollar course. Having said that, it was a pleasant surprise. Green's fees were inexpensive, people friendly, and on the course, a nice mixture of challenging holes that were fun to play.
There were a wide variety of holes, and there were a few special ones either from difficulty or for beauty. The greens putted true, and what I really liked is that what apparently were several sand bunkers had been turned into grass bunkers. That makes course maintenance and playability go up a notch.
I'd definitely play the course again!
