Great course, slow play
The course was in very good condition. The design is great, the surroundings are quit. My only real complaint was the pace of play. My tee time was 11:30 on a Monday . So I expected it to be pretty empty. Unfortunately it took me nearly 3 hours to play the back. There was no marshals to help with the pace either. Otherwise good.
Course has grown in nicely
I first played this course when it opened in the late 90s and it has grown in very well. It's a very pretty layout and the first three holes, in particular, are beauties. Undulating greens and elevation changes make it challenging but the good news is you can usually find your ball. It's fairly priced for the layout and the excellent conditions but I find it does exceed my budget unless I get a deal or I play during twilight hours.
Love this course
This is one of the best courses in the DC Metro area. Course conditions were excellent and the staff is always friendly.
Great practice facility
Played Worthington with a group of friends this past weekend. We all have played the course multiple times and I live close by in Leesburg. I scheduled a tee time for 12 and when we arrived the starter told us that there was a shotgun start starting at noon for six foursomes. The starter was super nice and said we could get ahead of the large group and start on the 7th. This worked out because he let us continue and finish 7,8,and 9 for a total of 21 holes played. That was the perk of the round.
The downside of the round was the Marshall on the course. He had no clue that we were not apart of the shotgun and on a few occasions said we had to hurry up our play. We aren't scratch golfers but play a fair amount in the summer months. The Marshall didn't say please and continued to follow us on a few holes. Guy was a real jerk and completely different from the nice and friendly starter at the beginning of our round.
I love this course and was in great shape considering it just hosted a U.S. Open qualifier in May. The staff has always been courteous and friendly. This was an unfortunate event and my buddies and I felt rushed rather than enjoying the round. Management should no better to schedule a noon shotgun and not have communication as to who is who on the course. Don't think I'll be playing it again anytime soon!
Pace of play needs improvement
They actually stuck our foursome behind a tournament on a Saturday!!!
Worthington Manor
Course is in excellent shape, and staff is very pleasant. The GPS on the carts is somewhat limited in scope compared to those at other courses, and the one in my cart was not 100% readable, but I managed.
Too slow
It was packed. Very slow pace. And there are several blind spots without any warning sign or bell to notify group behind you. Sometimes the balls just fly by...
Such an enjoyable round of golf!
I read some reviews which said it was a tough course to play which concerned me as my wife has a handicap of 24 but the design and layout of the course is such that with thought about which club to take particularly off the tee rather than try and hit the ball as far as you can the course is tricky but can be played by a high handicapper with a great deal of excitement and enjoyment.
The pace of play was the only downside as the groups in front were losing balls having taken drivers off all tees except the par 3s, rather than play for position, however the Couse Marshall was very evident in his presence around the course, he made 5 circuits during our round which did help a lot. What was very noticeable was the Course Marshall took time to watch each group to see if he could help them.
The course was in excellent condition and comparable to the top courses I have played around the world.
The courtesy and friendliness of all the Staff was beyond reproach, from the Bag Drop Staff, to the Clubhouse Staff, the Starter and the Course Marshall.
All in all a great experience.
Worth the Drive...
I selected this course given its rating on Golf Now along with the price I was able to pay. Given that the course was set for a US Open Qualifier on the next Monday, it was quite challenging. The rough was rough and the greens were fast. I was pared with two folks I met at the course while walking in, along with a Marshall that had the day off. What a pleasure! I look forward to playing this course next time I visit the DC area.
Add to you bucket list
Some friends and I found a really good deal on golf now to play this course. I haven't played it in about three years and forgot what a gem of a course it was . The greens and rough were in fantastic shape and in pro like conditions. Please put Worthington Manor on your playlist because the closest thing coming to it is whiskey Creek and bully rock.
Great course, slow play
I have played here many times and absolutely love it. I think it is one of the best in the area. It's always in great shape and the greens are fast, undulating, and very firm. It's a US Open qualifier site for a reason. I'm a scratch golfer and find it challenging yet fair with emphasis on the approach shots. Some places you may miss are dead. Some higher handicaps may find it really difficult around the greens.
The only consistent downside is the pace of play. The starter really rushes you to get to the tee box for your tee time, but after that you're on your own as there is not a ranger. There was one group with four holes open in front that was causing a bottleneck and nothing was done about it. Even with a call to the pro shop. The difficulty of the course may have something to do with it but that staff should be aware. Overall though, its still worth playing and there are usually some decent deals midweek.
Great Course
I play here a few times a year, would more but an hour away. It has always been in very good shape, this year seems even better; with a new Greens Keeper I believe I was told. Top of the line course with slightly better rates than others comparable, but with some great frequent player programs makes it even better. I'd consider this a "must play" course which will test your skills!
VERY NICE
love this course... its a beautiful, great course. great scenery, water, hills, views, this course has it all. real nice track, and not easy either. might be the nicest course around, its definitely up there.
call in your food ! everything, even hot dogs are cooked to order.
Worthington Manor is a class joint !
Worthington Manor is arguably the best best course in DMV area. Awesome track & course was in phenomenal condition. The staff was great, especially the gentleman that checked us in at the proshop. Great place to play & can't wait to return
It is excellent course
The view of courses are very nice and course design is excellent.
Fairway condition is so nice, it looks like green. Practice range is small but comfortable. Sandwich at restaurant is very very delirious.
Had fun on this course
Watch the wildlife. This course is a wildlife preserve. We say a snapping turtle, a racoon and a few other animals on the course
nice and challenge course
It was a good condition and some pin placements were challenging.
The first three hall were tough, be careful you might end up double or triple bogey easily.
It was perfect weather and my handy is 14 but I ended up bogey game.
over all conditions were good.
It was a very pleasant round!
I will come back again.
Thanks.
Would recommend, but only at lower rates.
This is a slightly above average public course. A step above muni, but not close to the better public courses in the area. The course itself is somewhat interesting, especially the par 3's. But the overall facilities need improvement. The driving range is small, as are the putting and chipping areas and the clubhouse is a bit run down. Course conditions also could use a little improvement, in particular the tee boxes. I'd say for $40-50 or less, this is a course worth playing.
Challenging course, great layout
Brutal Rough, Stunning rolling hill views, Aerated greens didnt help the already difficult putting slopes. Slow pace of play was annoying
fun and challenging course
Good course. Only 2 issues were that nobody seemed to fix their divots on the greens and the pace of play was very slow.
