Loved the Course
This was the best golf experience of my life for three reasons.
1. Outstanding course with great condition fairways and greens. Unlike anything anything in Central Florida accept for Bella Collina.
2. I played with my Brother Dan who seldom plays and we had a great time together.
3. My first Hole in One was with a seven iron on # 8 hole capping off a great day. A double on eighteen gave me an 82 for the day. Played well for me. I will be back for sure when visiting.
Good course
Overall was a good course. As a low handicap I tried playing the tips but would recommend trying further forward if you haven't played there before. Definitely requires course management and is a course where playing a previous round there before is very beneficial.
New Gem in Maryland
Wide open and forgiving course with challenging landing areas and amazing views. This course rivals Whiskey Creek in the area but in my opinion has better performing greens and more forgiving roughs. An excellent course.
Better than ever
I've been playing here since it opened and while it's always been reliably solid, yesterday was the best condition I've ever seen it. I know they got a new superintendent from Columbia CC and it was a great hire because the course is in wonderful shape. The tees had been aerated (which they needed), but the rest of the course was excellent, particularly the fairways and greens. Well done guys. $29 after 4 on weekdays is the best deal around. Keep it up.
US Open Qualifier Course is a gem
This was my third time playing this course and I really enjoy it every time. A shot-maker's paradise, the layout is very demanding and you have to make all your shots or else you end up in a sand trap, rough, or uneven lie. Practice facilities are excellent. Clubhouse is superb, with nice dining room. Greens are perfect, very fast. If you are looking for a challenge, a course in perfect condition, and a great golf facility, you've found it at Worthington Manor.
Great test
The course in unique for the area, in that is is very open, without a lot of trees lining fairways. A link feel.
Design of all holes (with perhaps 1 exception for #3) is excellent. Conditions are excellent. Greens, tees, and fairways are near perfect.
Be sure the play the right tees - if undecided, go shorter! The first three holes are very tough, don't let them get you down. After that the course gets easier to p[lay.
Cost is the only negative. A bit overpriced. Rack rates are high. GolfNow makes is affordable.
Challenging and pristine
Worthington was on my list of courses to try this year and their $29 twilight rate, in addition to their age 55 senior rate, guarantees I will return. The conditions are immaculate, the staff is very friendly and accommodating, and it has the feel of a private club. The course takes some understanding to play as there are many blind landing areas and lots of hidden trouble. It is fair, but you need to know the course to score well. It was very windy when I played and that compounded a round which was about 8 shots over my usual score, though I had good help from two people I played with who were familiar with the course. If you like strategic shotmaking and are accurate, you will enjoy this course. If you like just "grippin' and rippin'" you may like another course more.
Great, tough course
If you haven't played this course, it will seem daunting at first with several of the first 9 holes playing uneven lies no matter where you are. The rough is thick, and the fairways narrow. The terrain was excellent though. I'd play here again in a heartbeat. Loved the layout.
Challenge
A great test for the above average golfer. Pace of play was fantastic for a weekend tee time. It's a target golf course than penalizes getting into bad spots. Greens in good shape and challenging. Would play again but wouldn't take a beginner.
Best value in the area
Favorite course in the area. Always a great experience. Challenging, yet fair.
Always a pleasure to play
In great condition and not so busy in the afternoon
Course was in very good shape, and very challenging.
For the time of the year, early October, conditions were excellent. A significant issue was the prevalence of gnats - they were very disturbing, and present through most of the afternoon to early evening round. The GPS units were not highly useful in deciding how to play off the tees on some of the holes due to some challenging fairways to hit to. Some of the difficulties were due to fairways at angles where it was difficult to judge how far the near and far edges of the fairways were that were running at a significant angle - for example the 1st hole. Another difficulty was due to some fairways where you couldn't see the landing area from the tee due to an angle, as well as a significant elevation change off the tee. Overall though, the course was a great challenge, in very good condition, and an excellent value at $35 a player. It is definitely worth paying $60 or so, if that fits your budget, considering the outstanding qualities of the course.
