Agawam Municipal Golf Course
About
Agawam Municipal Golf Course has been a favorite among local golfers since first opening in 1944. It has a traditional layout that offers a few challenges but it's still player friendly enough for golfers of any skill levels. The holes are fairly straightforward but the gently rolling hills provide some subtly tricky elevation changes. There isn't any water on the golf course but there are mature trees lining the fairways. While it may not be what you're looking for if you're an avid golfer who wants a truly formidable test, Agawam Municipal Golf Course is not to be under-estimated. The greens can be tricky to pitch to and accuracy will take you far. This municipal course is a great spot for a quick and casual round that's also affordable.

Nine, par-3, 140. Playing steeply uphill, this is possibly the best-known, most interesting, and least liked hole at Agawam. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/05/2022

There are some rigorous holes on Agawam’s back side. This par-4 at ten is one of them. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/05/2022

You get what you pay for
Things started and ended bad. We had an advance tee time but upon arrival none was recorded. With 2 foursomes waiting to tee off we were shifted to the back nine. Tee boxes were cluttered with broken tees, fairways were bare in spots, the rough needed cutting and broken tree limbs everywhere. Greens were very slow and also needed a good trim. Lots of overdue maintenance noticeable. Wide open, flat front nine. Back-an-forth, side-by-side fairways are kind of boring and hazardous from hooks/slices. Only seven sand traps on front nine, four on the first hole. First hole is intimidating for slicers (4 traps) and cars coming up road. Par 3 ninth hole a real challenge…up a steep hill. Club selection was critical to reach green plateau. Back nine more challenging and typical: mature, tree lined fairways, doglegs, up/downhill holes, only 2 small sand traps. The only water on the course is a small drainage ditch on the back nine where it must be carried off the tee on two holes. The dogleg right 17th is a real challenge, especially if you’ve never played the hole. Pro shop only carried the basics: balls, gloves and tees. One employee in pro shop doubled as cook and bartender. Small snack shop had a minimal selection of beer and didn’t have a hamburger at 2pm. Course gets lots of play from locals and was open most of this past winter. It’s a very busy course possibly because it’s so cheap to play but I won’t be back. There are better maintained, nicer facilities with full food/beverage/pro shops at comparably priced public courses nearby to choose from. I’ll go there instead.
Great coarse
Fun coarse, very well maintained, can always get a tee time
head pro Tony R is great
played here several times over the years very good course to play for the value.Nice challenge from all tees and all levels of players. PLUS WE PLAYED DECEMBER 13TH 2015 who would of thought the course was very busy but play moved right along...
Will be playing this course at least 5 times in 2016..
Thank you mboz for taking the time to review our course. We are thrilled that you had such a good experience, and glad that the weather was good enough for you to play in December! We look forward to seeing you back in 2016!
Always a great round for the value
Was a little busy when we arrived. Staff was great putting us out on the back and accommodating our group. Very courteous staff and course is always fun.
Thank you jahlberg for taking the time to review us! We appreciated your patience during a busy holiday weekend, and we're thrilled that you had a good experience. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Love the greens
Nice course great condition the course rewards good play
Thank you LSA556HP, we're excited that you had such good time last week. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Don't forget to check out our great deals before winter hits!
Agawam C C
As usual the course was in good condition. Staff is always friendly and willing to accommodate the players. Have been to this course a few times this season with very good results. I have to admit this time it was not what I expected. Both golf now and the course need to let each other know about any special events. Reasoning is that our group got a Hot Deal of the day from Golf Now, only to find out that when we arrived there was a scramble best ball tourney in progress. we where tucked in between groups that where playing in the tourney. This made for some very very slow play to say the least. The players that we spoke with from the scramble where not happy about it either.
Spectacular Fall day
AMGC is a near-by course that my son I have frequented since he was about 10 y.o. (he's now 20).
It's a very good course for us as we're mid-handicapper's and inconsistent strikers. They have upgraded the facilities , carts and course conditions over the past few years so it is a quality municipal course. Well be continuing to use AMGC.
Overbooked
Chaos with no starter. Had three groups on the first whole in under 15m. The pace is all over the map as you have many levels of players golfing for a value at 23 bucks. Expect to either be pushed or slowed depending on your skill level. I'll opt to pay more elsewhere next time and enjoy a more calming and quiet time out.
A Hackers paradise!
Hook, or slice? No worries here, especially on the front 9. Save your $$, place is still garbage..
How Can You Beat the Deal?
Played Agawam GC with my son and nephew. We decided to play on short notice. Golf and cart for $23 ... how can you beat it on a Sunday afternoon?!? The course was in good shape. Green, for the most part. Tees and greens in nice shape. The greens at Agawam are tricky ... most of them have slopes and the ball was rolling! There were a bunch of people playing so the pace of play was a bit slower. I would golf at Agawam again.
Course holding up in the heat
Played late on a Sunday but course still very crowded which made for a painfully slow pace of play. Course was holding up very well to high traffic and summer heat. Greens were in great shape and fairways very playable. Greens require some thought on approach as missing your targeted area means you are off the green. Have played here a few times and course is better each time
agawam
it was ok. no thrills golf. would play there only on a hot deal. no more than $20
Great course for the money
The course was very well groomed, and the price was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food in the club house was good. Overall i
Great course
Agawam is a great golf course as far as the conditions of the course go but pace f play was rather slow. Need a Marshall on the weekends
Great Value
Not a particularly difficult front nine but overall a well kept Muni that is close and fun to play. Since the Town took it over, the conditions have been greatly improved, but kept reasonably priced.
Great bang for the buck
I've played here many times over the years and the course is in the best shape it's been in that time. Only complaint is they overbooked the course and pace of play was a little slow.
Value for the Money
Played this course 3 times already this year, fairways and greens are well groomed. Great time on the course and is fit for any level of golf. Staff is very professional in every department.
Fast greens so don't be fooled by hole #2.
The price was right.
The pace was very slow. On the front nine balls are flying at you from everywhere which is a little uncomfortable.
Good course for the money
Needs some water on the greens, brown out. I thought the course was in good shape for the winter we had and the time the maintainance crew had to work on the track.
Great Early Season Conditions
The Golf Pro, Tony is very friendly and accomodating. The course conditions for coming off of a brutal N.E. Winter were in very nice condition and soon as the warm weather hits the course will be in real nice condition. the course is moderately challenging and the track is nice especially the back 9. The fairways are in nice shape and the greens were running nice for this time of year. I highly recommend you play this course great bargain!!!
