Great layout and conditions.
Fast consistent greens; killer rough and a lightning fast round made for a great day. Crews are all hard at work bringing this fine course back to its historical conditions. Definitely worth a stop.
So much potential
They are doing a great job here at Crestview, but I definitely feel like this course really could be a destination spot in Western Massachusetts. Like Crumpin Fox or The Ranch. The layout with the exception of the 12th hole is exceptional. The conditions are very good. But the surroundings need to get cleaned up. The tee markers, the Hole signs and the flower beds that house the hole signs need to get cleaned up. The gazebo that sits in the intersection of 6th green, 7th tee needs to be taken down or restored. I liked the grill and pergola at the 10th tee and that could be a serious money maker if cleaned up. And the ponds need to get cleaned up too, everything around the ponds needs to be cleaned up too. This a little more attention to detail this place really could be special. I mean really special.
Great course, but the rough, ugh.
Played the day after a rainy Memorial Day weekend and I had the course nearly to myself, so I have no complaints about crammed tee times, or slow pace of play.
It had rained for three days and the fairways were definitely soggy, leading to multiple signs advising the course was cart path only. I expected as much so I wasn't disappointed or upset. Still, the fairways and greens were in very good condition. Greens were soft and quite slow, but again that was to be expected.
What I wasn't prepared for, however, was the rough. Deep, thick and tons of clover made it extremely hard to find any balls that missed the fairway. I donated three to the course after exhausting my time searching. I'm not sure if they typically have Oakmont US Open rough or if this was just a vestige of a long weekend, possibly with a tournament.
I look forward to playing the course again, and I'll be sure to bring a lot of extra balls since I almost ran out
Bring Extra Balls
Played Crestview for the first time and really liked the course.
It was one day after three straight days of rain over the holiday weekend so the course was pretty waterlogged and the greens weren't very fast, but that was to be expected. Cart path only isn't my favorite thing to see when arriving, but it was understandable.
I plan to play it again during dryer weather and suspect those issues won't be problems. Still, the fairways were in great shape and the greens were really good and rolled nicely.
What may or may not be different next time is the rough.
Ooof.
It was deep and thick with lots of clover. It swallowed up four balls that I just couldn't find despite knowing where they landed. And those that I did find had a hard time making it out due to the thickness. Crews were out mowing behind me, so some of that may have been taken care of with a later tee time.
Still, I'll be bringing a few extra balls next time, just in case.
Mow the rough
Good rough is great but it’s gotta be maintained. The varieties of weeds and typical household lawn grasses that make up the rough here provide no float to the ball. Thus any ball, an inch or twenty feet from the fairway, is difficult to even find as it is set down 5 inches below the grass this course has clearly decided not to try and maintain anymore.
Tee boxes and greens are good and fairways are decent.
Great
Great round of golf, challenging course in Greta shape.
Keep the ball in the fairway!
Keep the ball in the fairway, the rough is tough to play out of!! Course is in great shape for fall golf!. Traps need some work. Overall fun and challenging course to play.
Pleasantly surprised
The course was in excellent condition pace of play excellent and the course layout is awesome. I highly recommend this course. Keep up the good work 👏
Great golf course
The fairways had some dead spots due to the weather but it didn’t interfere in the game.
I will definitely return to this golf course in the future
True
The Greens were Fast and true. Course is in great shape
Excellent Course and Great Greens
Great place to get caught up with some old friends and a round of 18. The course was fantastic and those greens are a blast to play because they are challenging - now I understand the need to know the greens and the impact of pin placement. We played on a hot and humid day and ice-cold water was strategically laid out along the course so filled up the water bottles and continued. A load of fun and the chicken sandwich and beverages afterwards was great. Looking forward to the next round.
Still a complete dump
This course is trash and will never come.close to what it once was. Management doesn't care about anything beyond taking your money. Maintenance doesn't seem to exist here. Let this course die like the others in the area, it's only a write-off for the owner and it shows.
Worth trying out
First of all I used to play this course as a guest when it was private and in fantastic private cc shape, I’ve also played it from time to time over the last ten years and have been distressed by the degrading condition of the place. I would say the course is coming back and was very enjoyable to play. Most of the recent complaints focus on cart path condition and dampness of ground. Well there is clear indication that new cart paths have been installed with many more needed, didn’t care as my friend and I chose to walk. With regards to the dampness of the place, there was no standing water except in one bunker marked gup, you could feel the softness of the ground from all the rain we’ve had, look it’s built on clay so it’s going to feel soft and damp at times, just time your play. The greens were soft a fast, bunkers well maintained and the fairways cut pretty short. Overall it was great and we will be back. By the way lunch at The View restaurant was fabulous.
Online rates on Golfnow are the walking rates, you were charged for a cart only and not the greens fee.
