SLOW PACE W/ 0 EFFORTS TO RECTIFY ISSUE
I like the course and conditions are always sufficient. My only complaint is the pace of play (4:45)...It's not just this course, it's a problem everywhere nowadays. These courses need to have rangers out monitoring this..any anything less is unacceptable.
Square Peg in a Round Hole
I live near Boston, and my brother lives out in Western MA. He chose the course and it was my first time playing there. The hot deal was inexpensive, but that and the pace of play were the only highlights for me. We arrived for our 12:10 tee time, and was told by the starter that the back nine wouldn't open until after 12:30, and that there were a number of groups that had been let out in the morning that would be playing the front nine again, so we would be fit in between those groups. Needless to say, my group was not happy about this, nor were the groups that were coming around to the front again. So we teed off late, but the pace was very fast after that and we didn't have to wait for anyone after the first hole as the group behind which we were playing only played one more hole.
After this rough start, I quickly learned that the course layout really doesn't suit my game. You have to play a fade on this course, and I'm predominantly a right to left player. I was in the left trees all day. Not a fault of the layout, since it is what it is. But definitely not a fit for my game. My main complaint about the conditions were the greens. It looked like they had been punched recently, so I'm not sure if they are typically as slow as they were, but the greens were very slow. This will be the last time I let my brother pick the course.
Late November Golf
The course was in excellent condition for late fall golf in Western Mass. The greens were in great shape and putted true. The fall leaves were cleaned off the fairways and rough. A really nice experience.
