great weather, great value
I arrived as a single and was paired with an adult and two eight graders, one of whom had barely played before. I'm a high school teacher so it didn't bother me, and they played their own scramble after tee shot. They were never an issue. The pace was OK, a little slow on the back. The course is long from the whites, 6600+, and there are plenty of trees lining the holes. But it's relatively open and you won't lose many balls. Greens were fine, a little slow, but they have some break. At $26 on a Sunday morning, you can't complain. You also get huge C-130s(?) practicing their landings. They come in right over the 11th hole, you could almost hit them with your wedge. A great value. Easy walk.
Very nice course
This is our first time at this course , The staff very friendly, the course is excellent condition. we have a great time ..Definetely will come back again.
Strongly recommend!
Good value and conditions
Played here with my dad. Tees and greens were in very good condition but the grass on several of the fairways were thin which was surprising for this time of year. Greens had been raked and have had some work done on them but could use a little more sand. What I expected for the money however and course provides plenty of challenge for players of all ages.
Excellent course
Great job everybody. A great course that plays longer than anywhere in the area. And cart girls are hot.
Always a good time at westover!
Course is in great condition. Play was a slower than normal but it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The place was packed. Longest wait to tee off was 10 minutes if that. Otherwise a great time, nicely groomed course. Will be back!
Like the layout of this course
It's in fair shape overall, I've been there a few times this year, and it seems to be in better shape every time I go out.
The course is in very good condition
This course is in very good condition. The tees, fairways and greens are well kept. My only complaint is the amount of hardpan throughout the course, otherwise a great place to play. I will play it again. The course plays long....but it is fair.
Pace of play problem
Course was in great shape for early in the year. Downfall was the front nine took nearly three hours. Over 5 hr round in total. No water on the course, only saw the cart girl twice. No rangers to keep play moving.
excellent fairways greens
this is a long coarse, very difficult for my game will play again golfers i played with are much better.
Great municipal golf course
We booked a deal on golf now for $20. Great price for a nice course. Wide open very playable but long from back tees. Staff very friendly we arrived an hour early and they let us out. Really nice fast true greens. Will play any time in the area.
LOCAL FAVORITE
THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF THE LONGEST, AND BEST MAINTAIN GOLF COURES IN THE AREA FOR MANY YEARS, THOUGH IT DID SHOW SOME WEAR, AND TEAR A FEW YEARS AGO. THE HEAD PRO, AND GROUND CREW, HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB, BRINGING THIS TRACK BACK TO LIFE, ONCE AGAIN!
The course was in great shape. A good value for the money.
We had a great day of golf on this course. It was very well maintained, the greens were in great shape, and the course was relatively empty for a Tuesday afternoon. I will play this course again before the season ends.
Decent Course; Unfriendly/Uninformed Starter/Marshal
Decent fall day - looking forward to a fun round with my wife, and our friends. My wife and I arrive early; check in for our 4-some; grab/load carts with our bags; hit some puts on practice green. During about a 20-30 minute stretch I notice no one had left the 1st tee box. Our friends arrive; we check in with the starter and tee off. We have no one in front or back of us. The 1st sign of anyone behind is when we are putting on #3, as I notice the group behind teeing off. We play #4 and exit that green as the group behind arrives at the tee. We play #5, and my friend and I had hit our tee shots on #6 before we saw this group again. They were driving around the 6 fairway looking for the tee ball from #5. Our wives hit; we finished #6 and arrived @ #7 tee box. This is when we saw the starter/marshal driving up #7 fairway toward us. We waited for him to arrive. He said nothing. My friend and I tee'd off, when he then said "you are about 2-3 holes behind the group ahead of you, and they are stacked up behind you. I need you to pick it up". I tried to explain we had never held up the group behind us. And that we had maintained our 1 hole distance from them. Furthermore, the reason why the group ahead of us was 2-3 holes ahead, was because they started 2-3 hole ahead of us. He would not listen, and was very rude. When we were on #9 tee I looked back to see where the group behind us was. I could not see them. They had not even completed #7 yet. We finished our round approximately 2 holes ahead of them. This angered me because the starter/marshal was so convinced it was us, he would not listen to reason and go back a group to see it was them. His presence ruined us for about 2 holes before we were able to let it go, and know he was wrong. Too bad he couldn't have found the fortitude to admit it, and apologize to us later. I am a seasoned golfer, and would never allow a group I was in to hold up others. I also know being a marshal is a thankless job. However, because this man was so rude to us, I will never return to this course again.
If you can aim (unlike me), you'll make a great score here.
Westover is a fun course. Plain and simple. Some holes you can find your balls, others you'll drill into the base (if you have a wicked slice at times like myself). But, they are plenty of fun with the turns and hole placements. Course was well maintained. Beer and food cart came around in a timely fashion and the locals that play regularly were friendly folks. Had a great time there and can't wait to go back before the golf season ends (if groupon does another).
Did I get the bang for my buck here? Absolutely.
Fairway could be better
Course is pretty open and less challenge. Fairway need some attentions.
A great course to walk
I love walking this course! The terrain is pretty flat, the airplanes flying overhead are fun to watch, the course is well-maintained, and it has some nice long fairways that help me to push the length of my strokes. It is one of my favorite courses in the area.
Great shape. Plays longer than the typical area course.
Westover is almost always in great shape. Played there several time this year and was never disappointed until this Sunday. Course was very crowded and 18 holes ran just over 5 hours. Starters did their best to match people up, but there were just too many players for the course to handle. Course seemed to move much better on the back 9 for some reason. I really love the course and will certainly go back, but no more Sunday play.
course in good shape.
The course was in very good shape other than a few greens not having ball marks fixed.
