A very short typical Donald Ross course.
First I’d like to say that even with all of the covid restrictions the staff here was extremely accommodating and friendly. The course itself is very short with most of the par 4’s being under 300 yards. The elevation changes make for some great views and scenic course shots. They do have the typical Donald Ross elevated greens with hard cuts that will make a shot missing the green by five feet leave you with a 20-25 foot next shot. Condition was good though a couple of the tee boxes were chewed up. If you want to play a Ross course at a great price this is the place.
It's in Pretty Good Shape!
Just as the title indicates...Boston's closest public course is in fine shape for the amount of play it receives. The layout is modified from original but there remains some decent holes to make it interesting. Lot's of elevation and hilly terrain will make it not quite a walk in the park...Thanks for the effort to make this place a fun experience...they also are doing a great job compared to other courses protecting staff and players from Covid-19.
Poor layout
The course is poorly laid out and stacked so tightly they need to post restrictions like "Iron's only" from tee, or "warnings you are not allowed to go for the green" because if you miss you'd hit the club house and people down below. The course is in good condition but also attracts a lot of hackers. I had hackers hitting balls at me while I was on the next tee box because they couldn't hit the right fairway on the par 3 in the back nine. I have many friends that are decent intermediate golfers that love this course probably because it's price. To be fair, I would play this course again just to see if I could lower my handicap-index.
Not worth any price
Only course Ive ever played where I felt unsafe because of how the holes are stacked on top of each other. Some holes have a turf tee box. Easily the most ragged course around Boston, just go one town over and play Putterham. I’d rather just hit balls at the range than play here.
Give this place a shot
Had a great round! Pace of play was good, 4 hrs and 15 mins . Staff friendly course was in great shape
cool place. odd layout
great course, kind of short with lots of reachable greens in 2. narrow fairways and lots of elevation. the front nine is much more difficult. don’t get lost the signage in places is odd. use the map and ask. nice people working there.
Saturday at the course
A beautiful day for 18 holes. First time playing this course. Some of the holes especially on the back 9 were tricky. One , of you didn't get off the correct tee shot the holes is lost, very little chance to recover. Driver stayed inn the bag most of the back 9. I'd love to play it again now that I know the course.
Another Donald Ross course not maintained properly in mass is upsetting .... over all in good shape but attention to greens and tee boxes need to be addressed
A most challenging course under 6000 yards!
From the point you walk onto the golf facility the staff is super friendly and helpful, especially for first timers. The course is under 6000 yards, but arguably one of the most challenging course I ever played - great price for a course of this quality.
A mixed golf adventure....
We teed off at 6 am. Played front 9 in a comfortable 1.5 hours. Unique, fun track with few flat lies or straight holes. Greens had been sanded aerated a couple of days earlier. Ten dollars was subtracted from the daily rate, which seemed only fair.
The most annoying, and seemingly avoidable negative part of the day was the discovery at the turn of 9 hole golfer jamming the course leading to a 2.5 hour back nine... it was a beautiful day, but the waits really disappointed!
I’ll end with on a positive note:: the ready to go sausage and egg sandwich was comforting at the turn and the staff were all pleasant and gracious.
Nothing to Write Home About
The reviews were good, staff friendly, but the course what short and narrow. I'd heard good things about it but found it full of netting (due to the layout).
A bunch of billy goat style side sloping fairways and blind shots made it difficult playing for the first time.
Proximity to Boston is the best thing going for this place. I'm local but wouldn't bother going back - rather play a Fresh Pond or Mount Hood any day.
Close to city but weird layout
Way too hilly. Some fairways are rolling hills and even if u hit a steaight tshot ball will roll to the other fairway
Too many trees
Short course so they try to make it play long with trees evrywhere even if u hit a good shot its so hilly ur ball can end up behind or under a tree. Just a bad layout.
Donald Ross?
My biggest complaint was lack of course layout guide. Cart paths wind in all directions but few if any signs to Next Tee. And the tee boxes themselves were unmarked except for 5 and 9.
Tough course
The course is pretty difficult. The side hill comes into play on quite a few holes making it crucial to place your tee shots well. It was pretty soggy today but with all the rain that was expected. Overall a great place.
