Overall good course...
I have played this course now 4 times this year, and it is growing on me. The conditions of some of the fairways have a lot to be desired, in particular the 6th hole really has no fairway, it is just a bunch of dirt and weeds going up a hill... The back 9 is in great condition, with just some excellent scenery.... I also like the fact that they plan on endorsing some cart rules to keep the course in better shape....
Course is in need of some TLC.
Great G. Cornish design---one of his early creations. Weather affects the course conditions----best in the spring and fall. This summer has been tough on many courses, no exception here. Staff was very friendly. I always look forward to coming back to Shaker.
Conditions extremely poor.
Conditions were extremely poor. Staff was very friendly. Even at the low rate offered, we will not return until the fall--if then.
Greens were well kept
Tee boxes and fairways are in poor condition. The greens were in good shape. It was a fair value for the GolfNow rate. I would have been disappointed if I paid full price.
Good Price
We got a deal to play 18 holes for $17. I cant imagine that we would have paid anymore to play this course. The grounds were in touch shape with many places that are not green, or not have grass at all. With that being said, this course is a fun challenge, with a very open front 9, and the back carved out of the woods.
The greens here are fantastic!!!
Old school target golf at it's best with some of the best greens I've played in a long time. John informed me of the wet area on the 6th hole, and that was the only blemish I saw on the course. They are working on some drainage issues. Other than that, this is a very nice piece of ground and a Cornnish classic. Can't wait to get back and play it again!!!
Course is rounding into shape
Course is in much better shape than previous years. Most tee boxes were in fair condition. Fairways were better and all greens were in good condition. Fairway on the signature 6th hole was the worst. Very friendly staff in the pro shop and lounge. Two beers and two Mikes in the lounge were very reasonable at $11 and change.
Nice Layout
Nice course, However I played it on a day following 3 days of heavy rain. Front 9 fairways were extremely wet until you play the more elevated back 9. Other than that course was in nice shape.
Watch out for the gully in front of the green on 6. Stay right!!!
Great course, definitely vast improvements made
We enjoyed this course and will definetly return A S A P greens maintained and much tree work has improved playing.
Course has great potential
Great place to play. Friendly staff and pace of play is what you expect.
Thank you
Nice layout
For April the course was in ok shape. The layout is very nice. Challenging holes. They are putting money into making the course better.
Course conditions have improved immensly
Course was in terrible shape five years ago when I started playing there. Now it has greatly improved to be in the best shape I've seen it. The work is continuing. It's going to be really nice in a couple more years.
This Course is showing some improvement
This course has a lot of work being done on it
With a little more work this course may turn out to very good
On the rebound
Once an LPGA championship course, the front 9 is long, the back tricky and narrow, but very playable. Course was wet in early April. Clearly, a lot of course management (tree-trimming, etc.) had occurred during off-season. Staff was friendly and helpful, carts were spotlessly clean. Bar and grille upstairs features handsome mantle; plastic flowers need to go. Bar patrons, all middle-aged male, were very drunk and loud at 4 p.m. -- a very unwelcoming scene!
Not the most pristine but a wonderful helpful staff
First time we played here. Didn't have my clubs so borrowed Ladies clubs. Host lent me a rental putter and described course. Fairways and greens were pretty rough but the layout is fairly interesting with a tight challenging back nine.
front 9 boring back 9 challenging
The fron nine was a little boring minus #6 which was the last par 5 on the front nine. Boy was this hole very challenging. This hole will blow your score card up if you aren't careful. Once you start the back 9 is when all the fun starts. Lots of up and down holes which require accurate tee shots. Fun course for all skill levels. Good course for the price but the greens need to be fixed up better since a lot of them were burnt. I would go back and play the course again
the course layout is bad, the course conditions was not even worth the $17.00.
arrived at course, tee time was not avalable, no carts, sent off back 9 (walking), then at the turn we ran into a turnament. and couldnt finish the round. they tried to give us a rain check, I wount be back to this course again. however Golfnow was great, they refunded us our fee. thanks
Interesting layout, needs some maintenance
Course was pretty interesting. Fun layout but fairways and greens were in rough shape. Played in summer, may very well be in great shape other times of the year.
