I enjoy playing here. Pace of play can be hit or miss sometimes but overall a 4some can expect 4-4.5 hour

for early/mid morning weekend rounds. I haven’t played late morning/afternoon rounds so I can’t comment directly but I have heard stories of long rounds as the day goes on.

This course is a great value. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens in great shape. Front nine is pretty open and basic. Back is more challenging with more elevation changes.

The improvements with this course is evident each visit. The superintendent is doing a fabulous job and the greens are outstanding. The town should be happy that TomDiRico is in charge of golf operations

Course was in good shape. In the short side but tough greens. Lots of fun and great pace of play.

For those who haven’t played Agawam yet, a key takeaway is the superior difficulty of the back nine relative to the front. The entire course, to be sure, has the same basic set of hazards: trees, hillside terrain, the occasional small stream, and the inclusion of sporadically treacherous greens. But the back nine ratchets everything up several notches. The hilly four-hole opening stretch begins with a par-5 that features a subtle downhill drive into a handsomely curved landing zone, then a tough and suspenseful blind shot to a hilltop green. The next two par-4s, equally impressive, have maddeningly well-defended greens. There is no let-up through the difficult 14th, followed by the only “routine” back-side hole at fifteen. The pair of unconventional par-fives, sixteen and seventeen, are both tight and awkward. These are tough pars. They hit players with a double whammy that may spoil a good round.

In many ways the front side diverges sharply from the back. Here, some tough uphill holes are more than just irksome, and the rest may not be hard, but they will challenge mildly, for the most part, from tee to green. Downhill tee shots at one and five are a highlight, both visually stunning and inviting. Clear opportunities exist for birdies, notably on three of the opening holes. But they become scarce after that, and you’ll have to squeeze by the sixth, especially its steeply sloped green so individual in contour that it resembles the kind of ‘face’ that Tillinghast admired in greens. I wish you well. Eight and nine, too, are equally tough holes.

Agawam is best where you can pick your spots on the par-5s, and it pays to play aggressively. In general, too, approach shot strategies move beyond what is “normal” on flat or unimaginative layouts. Knowing the best way to approach the seventeenth green is just one example of this. Putting these greens tests your skill with the flatstick, so much so that during my first experience here my putting failed me miserably. Since then, I’ve learned that pitching and putting (both) around these slick and tilted greens takes patience and a steady nerve. Today, being the better for it, I putted reasonably well at Agawam.

A few notes today:

–Near the ninth green on the big hillside by the parking lot and clubhouse, flowing down toward the valley, you’ll find (barring heavy foliage) a view of downtown Springfield.

–-Is the clubhouse statue of the vintage-era golfer supposed to be someone famous? Couldn’t get an answer on that today, but I’m curious. It doesn’t look like Donald Ross.

—Good pace today, and Ed was friendly—humorous as well—at check-in.

The improvements on the course have been outstanding. Tom and his staff excel in customer servive. The course is in great condition and Agawam is still the best value for your dollar around. Don't miss a opportunity to play this course

New to area (2years). I have played this course a few times. Both early and late in the season. With the exception of a several dry patchy areas and wet areas. The course was still playable and greens were in good shape. I would recommend playing it later in the season, but you know sometimes you just need to get out and play. 🏌️

Enjoyed this course…in great shape for April after a very snowy/rainy winter. Only issue was pace of play. Actually once we tee’d off it was decent pace (4 hours 20-30 min) however our tee time was 8:10 and we didn’t tee off until almost 8:40. It was a very nice day so we didn’t mind the wait too much but it’s is hard to imagine a 30 min wait that early in the day.

Unless that is norm though, I would recommend this course and will be back.

Played this course for the first time on April 1st. Conditions were good considering the winter we had, and the fact that it started raining on the back 9.

I enjoyed the layout and will definitely play it again.

Good value for the price.

Course is in great shape and pretty free of leaves. Crew was out early working on the course which was nice to see after a night full of rain. Looking forward to another round.
