Not as easy as it appears
Looking at the layout it is a rather straight forward looking course. Between distance, doglegs, need for accuracy it can be a bit of work. The greens seem to move fast without the appearance that they do. Well taken care off I will play here as often as possible.
Let us drive on the course
The course is in the best conduction I’ve seen in a long time. Cart path only belongs on a course that is repairing. Don’t charge that much and make us walk the course anyway.
Worth a play
Much nicer than I expected & very long. A lot of mid-450yd par 4’s. Definitely would play again.
Lots of rain day before so it was cart path only. The coarse was very green and plush. Green stuck great putted true and was happy with the conditions. Ranger was a bit annoying saying were were 10 min behind pace w no one behind us and w cart path only it slows you down
Coming Back
Pembroke greens, fairways and tee boxes are coming back from almost disaster a couple of weeks ago. Keeping carts on the cart paths seems to be working well.
Going downhill
Well, I’ll start by saying it has a nice challenging layout. Many fairways and in nice shape if you are dead center. That’s about all I can say that’s good.
Cart path only rule is ridiculous. Maybe… maybe if this rule leads to picture perfect holes then it would be understandable. Based on the sheer number of golf balls on the opposite side of the fairway from the cart path, it’s obvious other players don’t want to bother with walking across the fairway to get to your ball. Not kidding: on the longer wider holes, there are 3-4 balls just sitting in the fairway. It really is insane. Walking out with a sand bottle, 3 clubs because you don’t know the distance, and a range finder—I need a push cart to go along with my riding cart.
Many tee boxes are tough and the par 3 boxes look like a moonscape. There is no sand for filling divots. Most fairways are poorly defined. Cart paths bleed into the rough the rough bleeds into the fairway bunkers spill out into the fairways. Many rocky, bare spots around the green apron. Bunkers are like concrete. Not sure what is going on with greens. Many diseased patches. Even the healthy areas are still not grown in from the last time it was aerated (guessing spring?) leaving a bumpy ride for your ball. And add to that the fact that no one playing here seems to care to fix their pitch marks on the greens, and it adds up to a frustrating experience.
Why frustrating? Well, this course costs $90 to play! $90. As in the same cost as crosswinds. Maybe this would be less frustrating at $50 because that’s what it’s worth.
Not too bad
The course was in pretty good shape. The CART PATH ONLY so dumb. Price was a little steep. You can play nicer courses for the same $$ and drive in the fairway!! Need to lift that stupid rule. I could understand if it was last summer, where it rained every weekend🙄
long time course player
i’m playing the scores for 40 years. It’s a great layout. But it needs help. There are many beer areas, no grass on the edge of the fairways. Several degrees are awful spots. But was really frustrating iis the cart path only rule
even when the course is dry. They do it all the time. It’s ridiculous.
BETTER THAN IT USED TO BE
It's in better shape than the past, however, as usual they we're cart path only and the entire place was dry, 95 degrees out and no wet spots but still cart path only. They should put that on their web site so people know before they go play.
Absolutely Dog Crap
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE. It is well on its way to becoming one of the "legendary courses" to completely fall to the wayside in Massachusetts. The greens were in abismal shape. Infection of the grass is running RAMPANT on several holes. Cart path only on a course that the fairways are in ok condition, but when you play a course that is twice the money for greens fees...and its NOT cart path only?
On the turn, they had cold hot dogs, and chilled drinks. Not worth the price of admission
Say good bye to the once beautiful course
Having played this course for years i am sad
The The new management that took over a couple of years ago is only interested in taking money out of the course. The ground crew does the bare minimum to keep the course somewhat playable. The one beautiful greens are slowly deteriorating as it is obvious the current greenskeeper has no idea, how to keep them. Since the Roanoke family no longer runs the course it appears the planned housing project surrounding the course and going through. It is taking top priority. There is a plan in place to change some of the layout to accommodate more houses this once championship caliber golf course will be no more a sad site for South Shore golf.
PCC
A challenge from the back tees. The course was in great shape. Some greens need a little TLC I. Spots but otherwise a very well conditioned course. Even after a week without rain the fairways are a little soft. Tees and greens were in great shape.
