The Captains Club Golf & Event Center

About
Located just 15 minutes from Flint, The Captains Club Golf & Event Center is one of the area's most popular public courses and it was even voted Grand Blanc's best golf course. Known as much for the challenging layout as it is for the affordable rates. The spacious layout offers plenty of room with wide-open fairways, none of which run parallel to one another. Dense stands of mature trees enclose most of the holes, making them feel even more peacefully secluded. Towering trees loom above the narrow fairways and they also surround the large, undulating greens. Water also has a prominent presence on the golf course. A series of waterways weave through the holes, almost completely surrounding some of the greens. The Captains Club Golf & Event Center is a course that will test your iron skills, but there aren't many opportunities for driving.

Bad pace of play
Course played great. Just no one out there making sure people are moving along.
Almost four hours to play nine hole NINE HOLES.
If youre gonna load up the t times at least make people pair up into foursomes. Sheesh
One and done
Horribly slow. No GC personnel monitoring. Really bad drainage problems. No sand in the bunkersn. Left after 7 holes and didn’t even ask for my money back. They need it more than me.
One and Done
Walked off after 7 holes to what would have been a 3 hour 9. Course conditions really bad. Bunkers worst. Save your money and go play somewhere else.
Captains club
Great Course! Staff (pro shop, starter, and cart attendant) were polite and top notch! Check this place out!
Not Impressed
Driving up to the course it feels like you’re at a country club. Very exclusive and grand looking. Big dining area and practice area. The facility is probably the best part of the golf course
The conditions of the course is below average. Fairways are not well cared for and the cart paths around the corse needs to be replaced. Too many pot hole damages throughout.
The putting greens were firm and rolls true. Many undulating greens and challenging
Hole #7 is a par 5 with a blind layup shot where you can’t tell if the group in front of you is still there or not.
Pace of play is really bad. There is no Marshall managing the pace of play. Lots of older retired people playing here and too many slow players
The geese poop is a real issue like many others have said. If the course of well maintained it could be a 5-star course.
Needs a Landscaping and course maintenance budget
This is one of those rare courses that finds itself in between a potential country club and a public course. Clearly in my mind if this enterprise had a substantial course maintenance budget and could put powder white sand in all the bunkers and use a weed control agent this would be on its way to a top notch golf facility.
The course layout is great; location is close to Flint area being in Grand Blanc and the northern suburbs of Detroit -easily accessible via I-75. I really cannot comment onthe facilities as we did not eat there but they seem to do a regular business on events like weddings.
Some of the holes are tricky with semi blind tee shots and some holes have hidden doglegs.
Once you play this course, you will have a much better feel and score the next time.
The weeds on some holes really are extreme but the fairways are in good shape for the most part and the greens are some of the best I have played this summer.
Price is reasonable for this course but better maintenance could make this a premier public course.
Blugene
Very good course; it is in good condition but it is tough for a high handicap player.
OK
Layout is nice, some challenging holes but not many with good distance. Path is horrible it feels like you’re off-roading most of the time. They don’t facilitate tee times so you’ll see 4 separate groups all start at once. Fairway is well cut but very lumpy, could use a rolling. If you want a change of scenery it’s alright, but I won’t be coming back.
They are not taking care of the course
Cart paths are full of pot holes.t boxes prolly haven’t been moved all year they are putting no money back in the course they are milking it dry

So much potential
This course used to be nice. There have been a series of unfortunate events and management has not done a good job recovering. Most bunkers are unplayable, tee boxes are horribly uneven, and fairways are either a swamp or a desert. Food is good, service is not. Draft beer is undrinkable.
good solid course
Fun course, challenging from back tees. Short but tricky from the forward tees. fairways in good shape, greens had a little of everything. some pretty flat ,some tiered some with large breaks.
Gorgeous course
It was a day after rain, so bit sloshy, but we won’t hold that against you.
I had an 11:04 tee time, and there were three people at the tee ( showed up at the same time) so I’d say manage the starting spot a bit better. ( didn’t see a marshall)
Other than that no issues at all. Staff was awesome. Food was awesome. Course was awesome
Good layout interminable playing time
We had the 744 tee time Saturday. Fourth group off. We tees off ten minutes late. Third hole four groups on the hole. I left after 2:40 for nine holes. Round I guess took over five hours. Someone needs to live people along especially that early. All it takes is one group. Playing early means finishing early not five plus hours
Hopefully someone reads these. Clearly from other reviews this happens a lot
Good course good condition. Fun otherwise. Just hate to pay for 18 and walk off after nine aggravated and unhappy
Nice course
Course was slow-going for the first 5 holes, as I was a single playing on a Monday morning (I get as a single, it happens... get over it). After the 5th 3 groups let me play through and by the 8th I was flying. I didn’t run into anyone on the back, and no one caught me (I hit 2 balls). Definitely shot placement golf,. I think I used my driver once on the 1st hole (it helped my score). Course winds through sub-division, but the houses aren’t “right on you”.... it’s nice. I don’t know how I played this course for $20, but it was awesome. I will be back. Thanks for having me guys!
