The Captains Club Golf & Event Center

About
Located just 15 minutes from Flint, The Captains Club Golf & Event Center is one of the area's most popular public courses and it was even voted Grand Blanc's best golf course. Known as much for the challenging layout as it is for the affordable rates. The spacious layout offers plenty of room with wide-open fairways, none of which run parallel to one another. Dense stands of mature trees enclose most of the holes, making them feel even more peacefully secluded. Towering trees loom above the narrow fairways and they also surround the large, undulating greens. Water also has a prominent presence on the golf course. A series of waterways weave through the holes, almost completely surrounding some of the greens. The Captains Club Golf & Event Center is a course that will test your iron skills, but there aren't many opportunities for driving.

Target golf to the max/ slow greens/ terrible pace of play
First of all, I agree with everyone who says the pace of play is terrible. We had a 3:44 tee time, putting on the putting green in line to tee off. (Putting green is a joke- it’s big- but not one flat putt- literally on a huge mound). Once 3:44 rolled around - there was still a massive back up on 1. We later found out that people at like 4:12 and 4:30 just showed up and went to 1( no ranger/starter). So we decided “f it” let’s go to 10 and press our luck at 1 when we need to make the turn.
2nd- what a TERRIBLE golf layout- if you have played metro Detroit and played devils ridge and thought ‘that was target golf’ after the round- well this course makes devils ridge wide open from the tee.
3rd- terrible greens- slowest in metro Detroit that our group has played thus far. Shaggy, long. Granted we played at 4:00 but still have played plenty of golf in the afternoons where greens were fast.
Save your money
Play somewhere else
Great
Course is in good shape greens fast. Walked 18. 6.7 miles around the course. 4.15 minutes to play. First one out at 8:45 am.
Strategy golf
Great place to work on playing strategy golf. It will eat golf balls if you’re not careful. Greens are in good shape. Bunkers need work. Fun to walk!
The course has some great holes
I wouldn’t recommend walking 18... in between holes is very long. But overall course with a lot of potential come summer.
Great course for the price
If you are looking for a challenging yet interesting course layout this one is for you. Just minutes off I 75 in grand blanc,I half an hour north of Metro Detroit. This is my home course and I play it often. The greens are second to none, very challenging and undulating. You can often see deer and other wildlife cross the fairways in this lovely 18 hole layout.
Fall rates
Course was wet after two days of rain.. the greens are being aerated and sand put down..it’s that time of year.
There are too many forced carries on this course. If you don’t know the course, it is hard to knOw which way the hole goes. Too gimmicky
Really enjoy this course!
Love this course. Last time out got stuck behind few inconsiderate groups. This blows me away that people don’t let you play through, add the fact that I’m a single most of the time. People need to think of others and fix your “mistakes“ wether it’s on the tee box, fairway or on the greens. Come on people get your heads out of your a$$e$
Fun with a few caveats
Enjoyed the round, people were really nice, price at 40 for sunday morning wa son issue. Course was in good shape, save for the traps which were very hit and its, some nice, some basically not playable. These are subjective which is whY i don't write many but...
my issue with the course was that is was clearly designed around houses. Long drives between holes, lots of short par fours with severe doglegs, so you have to on at least 6 or 7 holes tee off with as little as an iron and you still have a short iron in. All three par fives on the front have something in front about 75 yards out, with means that unless you hit your drives(we played blue tees) 240 you end having to hit driver, then mid iron, then 8 or 9, it is generally a 210-230 carry over the stuff, so you can't really get close to green as you'd hope on a par five just sort of goofy.
But if you haven't played, its worth the 40 minute drive from the detroit surburbs just be prepared form some holes where you just scratch your head and wonder why
Course poorly managed and designed
Took 5 hrs 6 min to play!! Was paired with another couple which included a 96 year old grandma and we even had to wait. No ranger. Crammed to many onto course. Course itself was in nice shape other than cart paths. Greens were best part with many breaks and reasonably fast. Cart paths were worn asphalt with pot holes. Course layout felt shoe horned into residential area. Many blind tee shots. Multiple par 5's that you had to drive to landing area, then 2nd landing area then onto green. Poorly maintained growth in areas you had to play over making landing areas blind due to high growth. #14 a 200 yard par 3 (blue tees) all carry over marsh you could not see green as they let bushes/shrubs grow to 10+feet leaving only right of green visible. Restaurant food was good. Do not see myself ever returning nor recommending this course to anyone.
Just ok if you don’t mind taking over 6 hours to play a round of golf.
I booked it through Golfnow. I had promo codes which made it free. However the pace of play was the slowest I’ve ever had to deal with in the last 26 years. It took 2 hours just to play 6 holes. I couldn’t take it anymore and left. Not worth it (and this was a FREE round).
Parts of the course also smelled like human waste. You can tell that they don’t have the capital to keep this place in order. It’s definitely deteriorating.
Find someplace else to play!
Enjoyable round of golf
The course played well and each hole is unique which keeps it interesting. The greens were challenging and smooth. The staff were very friendly. Always a treat to play!
Solid course
No complaints. Course is great for the price. (Hot deal). Conditions are so-so but great for what you pay by comparison.
