Dunham Hills Golf Club
About
Dunham Hills Golf Club is situated amidst rolling hills and mature trees. The course is a demanding, but fun test of your skills. The topography presents challenging elevation changes throughout the course but accurate shots will be rewarded with level lies. The undulating fairways and lightning fast greens provide a variety of different shot options that will please the skilled shot-maker. Be prepared to utilize every club in your bag. Accuracy is essential on every hole in order to avoid the unpleasant lies that lurk beneath the hardwoods and pines but the trick is to keep the ball on the fairway. The layout opens with a tree-lined par 4 that is representative of the entire golf course. This tricky hole features a single bunker placed in front of a green that is sloped left to right.

Dunham Hills w/Jay & Mike
The rate was fantastic... $12.50 for 18 w/a cart from last Minute Golfer.com. Never played a round for that price. Course was in good condition for this late in the year. Greens were tough to read as usual for this course, but they were slower than normal. Not a lot of leaves down yet. Weather was great, overcast, but we stayed dry. Starting sprinkling just as we were on our way to our vehicles. Great value for this challenging course
Not Impresed
Nice course, but average at best. Lots of blind shots. Pace of play was very disappointing (I take into consideration that we were a two some). We stopped after 11 holes and was looking at a five hour plus round. Their were no rangers on the course. Will not play it again.
Beautiful course
Off the beaten path, but a wonderful course. Rolling hills make it challenging. Many trees and sand traps not only around greens.
This couse has narrow faiways for everyones
I like this course However course has narrow fairways so I have seen many time someone try to get a pin from next course.
A very challenging course
Found the course to be as challenging as I have heard over the years. The greens were very fast. It was a hot morning which hindered the play on the back side. A very hilly course and good test of golf even from the white tees.
Dunham Hills, always worth it
Great course, especially for the money. Was glad to see they were busy, hopefully they're making money and will continue to offer a great course.
Great Course, Played Very Slow On This Day
Teed off about 10 minutes late, and then waited on every hole thereafter. 5 hours, 22 minutes. Very poor pace of play. Don't play here enough to know if this was a bad day, with slow people in front of us, or more the norm. But, it certainly cut down on the enjoyment of what is otherwise a course that is in great shape, and is very playable. Greens are very tough here -- watch out for those downhill putts!
tight older course. many mature trees line the fairways
very beautiful rolling terrain. I truly enjoyed this round & wished I had time for more.
Must play
The round was perfect. This is a "MUST PLAY" course. Enjoyed every hole.
Challenging Gem
This is a must play course for all. Have been playing Dunham since the early 70's. Has always been tough. Teeboxes, fairways, rough and especially the greens are in perfect condition.
Played as a twosome and teed off at 9:50 and compleated the round in three hours and thirty minutes. Facilities are also first rate.
Do not miss the opportunity to play here; you will definitely come back.
Dunham hills
This is the 3rd time I have played this course , and was disappointed with the pace of play. apparently the rangers were not effective in getting play to move along.. on one hole we had 5 groups ( although one was a single).. The golfers in the group ahead of us said this was not the norm but the two people that manage the course were not there and all that was in the clubhouse was younger staff .. did not see beverage cart after the turn as well but seen her 3 times on the front. Not as nice of a time as the first two times we played it
Nice mature course
Nice mature course for the value. Slower on Sunday am but what course is not? Greens were a little banged up and if they were in better condition this would be a much better course. Our tee time was delayed by 20 minutes but the starter let us play 7-9 and then come back for 18 holes....staff was great and he made up for the delay.
Was hurried up for leagues
As we were finishing up at number six and getting ready to go to number seven, the ranger approached me and asked if we were playing 18. I said yes and he said we should hurry it up since the leagues were going to go off after 4 p.m. I told him we were playing ready golf, keeping up with the pace of play and going as fast as we could. The ranger/starter then said we should consider waiting 30 minutes when making the turn. I was actually quite surprised by this. He then said we should be able to make up time on 7,8 and 9 and to “go ahead and do what we want.” Unfortunately for me, this frustrated me and my game went downhill afterwards. Again, I am not a pro, but was having a good day even sinking close to a 20 foot putt on one hole. For the first nine, we ended up finishing in just under two hours.
When we made the turn, the league had started to tee off. The ranger/starter approached us again and asked if we were the group he had already spoken to out on the course. I said yes, we were. Apparently we were the only ones he felt a need to talk to out on the course. We understood that the league was beginning to tee off and asked if we could jump up to number 11 to get ahead of them. The ranger/starter seemed to think this wasn’t a good idea, but then relented and allowed us to do so. We said we would come back and play 10 after finishing up 11-18. At this point however, both myself and another in my group were flustered having been told to hurry up. We felt we could spend no time looking for a ball and in my instance, I dropped two balls because I didn’t want to hold up anyone behind us. My cart partner was also frustrated. He only dropped one after a brief look for a ball but then muttered about not having enough time to look.
When done with number 18 we then went to play number 10. The ranger/starter then approached us yet again. At this point I was very disappointed with having been told to hurry up and approached for yet a third time and I told him so. Our cart was also dying. The ranger/starter heard me out and said he believed reservation shouldn’t be made after 1:30 p.m. on league days. We hadn’t even been warned that leagues were going out when we paid in the pro shop (which I feel we should have been). The ranger (Joe? John? McConnell) switched carts with us so we could finish number 10 and then said we could play more if we wanted to. Not as a way to make amends, but just because there was no one else with scheduled tee times after the league.
Here are my issues:
If you have leagues, let players know and DON’T book a tee time with recreational golfers that late in the day (2:22). As I said, we played the first nine in two hours and ended up finishing 18 in slightly over four hours. Well within the pace of play according to Play Golf America which says average golfer should finish a round in 4-4:30 hours (http://www.playgolfamerica.com/graphics/info_devo/firstswing_beginning_to_play.pdf). Also, I used to work very closely with the Golf Association of Michigan, so have always been cognizant of speed of play.
Get a more courteous ranger/starter. I understand that most of these guys are older and maybe volunteer or are doing it part-time because they love the game (or want free golf). But the way I was approached and then continually singled out (again, three times) did not and still doesn’t sit well with me. The last time I was approached by a ranger on the course was probably 15 years ago when I was in my mid-20s. That last time I was at fault and can admit that. But I don’t feel at fault at all for yesterday and I am writing to you to let you know.
As of right now, I don’t know that I want to come back and play at Dunham Hills, which is too bad, because it’s a nice course not too far
Like a well manicured park
Not many water hazards, a few sand bunkers, but lots of trees. There was very little high rough. It was almost impossible to lose a ball. The greens were quite challenging. The whole course was very park-like. The course and the excellent weather made for a very enjoyable day.
Dunham Hills hidden gem
most people have not played this course. You need to put it on your must play list. Course was in great shape, greens are large and very undulating, did not have many flat lies. Trees on most holes, but fairways had generous landing area's. One tip: stay below holes on greens is a must. Great price.
Great classic course
The best public course I play in the area. Greens were in excellent shape. Played in under 4 hours.
Nice course, good challenge
This was my first time playing this course. It was definitely more challenging than I thought it would be. The greens were in excellent condition. Not a bad price for a Saturday morning either.
Challenging
We'll worth the money. A couple greens still recovering from the winter.
outstanding course!
This course is in Great shape. We truly enjoyed ourselves. This course has an up north feeling. Every hole was fun to play. This is a must play course.
