About
The Legend Course is one of four championship golf courses at Shanty Creek in Bellaire, one of northern Michigan's most popular golfing destinations. The Legend might be the most well known of the four since it is the club's Arnold Palmer design. It has been ranked as one of the top four resort courses in the country and the best resort course in the Midwest. It is definitely a challenge but Palmer incorporated generous fairways and true-rolling greens that allow golfers to play to their handicap. The golf course features elevated tee areas and slightly raised, heavily bunkered putting complexes. Water hazards also come into play on five holes. The 12th is one of the most challenging holes and also one of the most scenic. There is water to the left and a treacherous bunker waiting on the right.

Very Nice Course
Great layout with some real challenging holes....lots of uphill shots to the greens....often requiring 1 or 2 clubs extra. Played long after recent rain. Surfaces.....tees and fairways were excellent; greens rolled true and VERY FAST....but with heavy play, numerous ball marks that hadn't been repaired. Great price with a "Hot Deal" on GolfNow.com.
Fun layout, great vistas
Excellent golf holes, many requiring different shots. Generally the course was in excellent shape - the greens have undulations and several tiers, rolled true but could have been faster. Difficult to determine pin location. Great deal, a must play for the price.
Awesome
This course was a pleasure to play. Arnie did a great job with this golf course! Beautiful setting & course was in fantastic condition! Loved everything about it!
Wow
Great course for the money
Beautiful course!
This is one of our favorites, saw a great price on golf now and we could not resist. Course was very busy, so play was slow, but the course and weather were worth taking in the views. Will certainly be back for more!!
Worth the trip.
Dramatic elevation changes, picturesque views and immaculate course conditions earn this course an excellent rating. We played early and had no issues with pace of play because we were the first on the course. I can't address pace of play in normal conditions. It was foggy when we started so we had to send out one player as a spotter on the first hole which we couldn't really appreciate because of the fog. The fog lifted by the third hole, and we really enjoyed the rest of our round. I would like to play this course again if the opportunity arises.
Has some trick holesd
For the average golfer there are some very hard and blind pins. That what makes it hard no to go back to.
I'll keep going back to beat the course.
the price was right
this was the 2nd 18 of the day, the price was right and the pace of play was perfect. Didn't see anyone until the last two holes
The Legend and. River are a Great Combo
Perfect companion to Cedar River at Shanty. Conditions were excellent and we found everything about the course to be a great experience.
Highly recommend playing this as a match with Cedar River at Shanty.
One of the best
The Legend at Shanty Creek Resorts is always a fun and challenging course to play. The beautiful vistas of Lake Bellaire on the third and fourth holes never fail to impress. Though we had a bargain rate this time, it is worth the usual cost of $45 to $60. While you are there, also get a round at Cedar River, Hawk's Eye, and if you are up for a real challenge, the Chief.
Outstanding Value
The course was in GREAT shape for May, which made it an outstanding value for the price! The fairways were lush and the greens receiptive and rolled true. The staff was friendly as always and helpful when one of our players lost a wallet.
Top notch course
This course is in outstanding condition from tee to green. The fairways and greens are pristine. The course offers a wide variety of holes, with elevation changes, water, and spectacular views, including several views of Lake Bellaire. While challenging, it is very fair to even the average golfer. The greens are fast with plenty of break, but the ball rolls true. Overall, the course is a real pleasure to play, especially as the Fall colors come out.
The staff was not participate friendly or welcoming, however; especially the young cart attendant at the start of the round. They could use a little customer service training in my opinion.
The Legend lives up to its name
Golfed The Legend at Shanty Creek for the first time October 7, 2015.
Course is absolutely beautiful and very fun to play.
We had the course to ourselves with a tee time @ 12:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon.
Each hole brought a new challenge for an average golfer like me.
Through Golfnow.com we got a really reasonable rate. Fall is the perfect time to play a course of this stature.
Great Course Up North
Very good condition. True Greens. Real nice course to play - can be a little tough if you don't use the fairways!
Outstanding Conditions
Other than the pace of play (which stunk.....slow playing 1st timer/resort guests) the Legend was in great shape. Tees, fairways, traps well maintained and the greens were smooth and quick. High handicappers will shoot 20 shots higher easily.....very challenging scenic track routed like a figure eight that's held up well over time....with impeccable conditions!
nice, but staff sucks
The course is well maintained. It is challenging. However, we were behind a foursome that had 3 vacant holes in front of them and the rangers would do nothing about it. We played as a threesome, so I realize we were quicker, but really..... it was ridiculous. Over 5 hours for a threesome is a bit much. Would not recommend unless you have a foursome, unfortunately . The ranger made every excuse in the book but failed to do his job.
Course condition was great
One of the nicest courses I've played in northern Michigan, I was pretty wet but it has rained a day before. Tough course for 1st play
Great value on Golfnow. com
We played on a Friday afternoon and the course was in great shape considering all the play for the summer. Greens rolled true, but some seemed slower than others. Only saw the bevcart 2 times for 18 holes - both times on the back side.
Great deal!
Nice conditions. Greens roll true and balls stick.
Bunkers are the worst I've seen
Greens were slow and the bunkers are filled with rocks/gravel, not sand. Our foursome waited on every single shot. No ranger on the course. Schuss Mountain and Cedar River are a WAY better value. I will not be returning to the Legend.
