Metamora Golf & Country Club
About
Metamora Golf & Country Club is a championship course located in the northern suburbs of Detroit. The parkland layout has a beautifully rolling terrain that provides dramatic elevation changes throughout. The course has a balance of excellent shot values and interesting challenges that will appeal to players of all skill levels. The greens can be especially tricky since they are fast, undulating, and often putt downhill. There are numerous bunkers lurking around the greens and water hazards come into play on nearly every hole, 16 to be exact. Proper club selection and accurate shot placement will be generously rewarded but the golf course is not overly punishing if you're a little off your game. The signature hole is the par-5 third, which requires an approach shot to an island green.

Challenging Course
Metamora is a course where course knowledge is really beneficial. It is a course where knowing not only how far you hit your driver but how far you carry it in the air is crucial. There are tee shots requiring carries over water so knowing how much to cut off is important. A range finder is valuable. Water is a factor on several holes starting on the very first hole. The par 5 3rd has water all over it. The 10th hole has a very sneaky creek cutting across the fairway that is not visible from the tee or much of the fairway.
My favorite
Have played many courses in the area and so far this is the best! Every hole is different and challenging with great views.
Why excellent?
This course is very challenging and well maintained. Value for your dollar is excellent (particularly if you get a "hot deal" from golfnow.com). Be aware, however, the greens are hugh and generally fast. Also, there are several "blind shots" due to elevation changes.
Great layout, fair off the tee, greens pure, very enjoyable to play, staff A+, come back every year
One of my favorites
Metamora is one of my favorites. Fun layout. Some good risk/reward holes. The course is always in good condition. GolfNow tee times here are a great value.
Golf now
Booked with golfnow for a Twosome. They paired me with another Twosome. Not Happy. Left course ate my green fees no refund . Golfnows fault not the course.
You cannot find a better course for the money, great value!
This golf course is a good challenge, the greens are well manicured, and the pace of play is great. I will continue to play at metamora for years to come.
Wow this place is difficult, rewarding, and amazing!!
This beauty is a little set back from town but man is it worth the drive.
This Course Needs A Ranger And Better Tee Time Management
I played Metamora Country Club on a weekday morning. The course was in decent condition but had to wait on every hole but one. There was two twosomes ahead of us who were playing at a slower pace. Understanding everyone plays at different speeds it is normal to have these types of golfers on a course. The issue I have is that there were no rangers on the course to promote a faster pace of play when the slower groups do not offer to allow you to pass.
Yes we could have spoke to them but the course should do better at managing the pace of play so the course can be enjoyed a little more.
Horrible Layout
The greens are slopped too much from front to back on almost every hole. It makes chipping nearly impossible when green side. I think it is almost an advantage to be 20+ yards from the green because you can create more spin and not rely on the greens to put your ball where you want it to be. At least 8 of the holes have this green problem. Another problem is the large hills on almost every hole that not only get repetitive walking up and down and make tee shot impossible if you've never played there before. This course has a 136 slope rating and I would say that it is not because the course is hard; it is because of the ridiculous greens, unusual amounts of blind tee shots. If you want to play this course well I woulds say you have to play it at least 10 times before you really know what you're doing.
Mixed emotions
Play here a few times a year and always enjoy the layout. This time was a little disappointing due to the amount of sand still on the greens and the condition of the traps. I know its early in the season and maintenance needs to be done and I hope that's why the course was in the condition it was. This is a wonderful course when the conditions are right
