Metamora Golf & Country Club

About
Metamora Golf & Country Club is a championship course located in the northern suburbs of Detroit. The parkland layout has a beautifully rolling terrain that provides dramatic elevation changes throughout. The course has a balance of excellent shot values and interesting challenges that will appeal to players of all skill levels. The greens can be especially tricky since they are fast, undulating, and often putt downhill. There are numerous bunkers lurking around the greens and water hazards come into play on nearly every hole, 16 to be exact. Proper club selection and accurate shot placement will be generously rewarded but the golf course is not overly punishing if you're a little off your game. The signature hole is the par-5 third, which requires an approach shot to an island green.

first time
very nice place to play a challenging round of golf
Tough course for the first time
A second round will be a must to appreciate this course. Blind shots and hidden water can be tricky. Greens would be friendlier to all if they were slower. I loved the fast greens, but hard to stop the ball on them.
Pace of play was great. I took my 12 year old twin boys and were never rushed or held up and it was fairly crowded
Too many gimmicky blind tee shots
Perfect, weather, staff was fantastic, conditions for Golf was great.
Pros- very scenic, multiple tee boxes for different skill level, good pace of play, lightning fast greens
Cons - too many gimmicky blind tee shots, greens may be too difficult for mid to high handicapped, maintenance ongoing at every hole.
I’m a 7 handicap and like fast greens and play multiple courses in the area and the state in general. I will say that these greens run true and fast, faster than Arcadia Bluffs and even Forest Dunes and I love em! But if you’re on top of the hole, good luck getting away with 2 putts. The staff were great and the course was I fair condition.
My issue is with blind teeshots - there’s nothing worse than hitting a great shot only to find that the fairway slopes severely in to pond or a creek or some tall grass. It’s a good experience and it’s off my list of courses to play but I won’t be coming back to hit blind shots - golf is difficult enough as is...
Challenging greens
Good course with very challenging greens. Lots of slopes on most greens.
Beautiful Well Planned Course
This course is a top notch course for the price. Only complaint is some of the fairways were in rough conditions with the amount of divots in them.
Fast greens and hard fairways.
Greens were fast and dry but held good shots. Fairways are hard.
Expected better
With it being semi private I expected better conditions and pace of play. Our round took over five hours and we kept pace with the group in front of us. Tee box was stacked and we didn’t tee off until 10 minutes after our tee time. Rough was extremely dry/dead on a lot of holes. I enjoyed the speed of the greens, don’t be above the hole or you’ll run off.
Great Test of Golf!
It’s been a couple of years since playing Metamora Golf and CC, however it was everything I remembered. The course was in excellent condition, the greens were fast and fair, and each hole presented a nice test, be it either a precision tee shot or soft pitches into the greens. I had a fantastic time today and will be coming back!
Good Value, Difficult Course
I play this course three or four times a year. Metamora G&CC is always in good condition. Today, even with all the rain, the greens were very fast and there was not any standing water in the fairways. This is a shot makers course!
