Metamora Golf & Country Club

About
Metamora Golf & Country Club is a championship course located in the northern suburbs of Detroit. The parkland layout has a beautifully rolling terrain that provides dramatic elevation changes throughout. The course has a balance of excellent shot values and interesting challenges that will appeal to players of all skill levels. The greens can be especially tricky since they are fast, undulating, and often putt downhill. There are numerous bunkers lurking around the greens and water hazards come into play on nearly every hole, 16 to be exact. Proper club selection and accurate shot placement will be generously rewarded but the golf course is not overly punishing if you're a little off your game. The signature hole is the par-5 third, which requires an approach shot to an island green.

WOW
You better be ready, but it's fair. Don't miss playing this course. J
All good , very impressed especially with the stafg
Loved it
Playable but pleasantly difficult course. Course was in good shape considering all the rain, we all really really enjoyed it. Have outing here on 6-21 and they made a great choice in picking this course. Loved it
A real golf course
Great course to play. It has an up north flavor to it. Challenging but fair. You can hit every club in the bag. Love this course.
Great golf course
This course is excellent. The last reviewer is ridiculous. This course has tons of character. How are the golf carts from the 70’s? They are no more than a couple years old. I agree about being a farm course, most courses are built from properties that were once farms especially anything North of Waterford. The greens are awesome and have tons of character. They are challanging to putt on, because of the undulations and that is fun to me. I can’t wait to go back in the fall, the autumn colors are gorgeous.
Extremely disappointing!
Let’s start with the picture is misleading. The course looks plush, and full of character. The reality it’s and old farm course. Everything was dated, from the club house, restrooms, golf carts. Possible in the 70’s if it was a country club it had its day, but what I experienced wasn’t charming or emaculate in the least. The issues I had started as soon as I got there, there hot dogs were raw, and buns dryed out. Bathroom was out of service, they started me on hole 10. This is very uncharacteristic for a now semi private course. The layout of the course was the worst. Blind tee shots on every hole on the back nine. No fun. Lots of lost balls. That’s partially why I decided to only play 8 out of 18 holes, because the layout and pace of play wasn’t even worth it. The greens had so much slope, you couldn’t even make a putt. It was a hillbilly course. I actually was slightly uncomfortable there, not my neck of the woods. The course was not well manicured, greens looked like the fairway, the only reason there’s a little water on the course, is your in the middle of nowhere, I couldn’t wait to get home. I see why it’s only $20. Not cause your getting a deal of a lifetime, the course is on its absolute last leg. At least that’s the vibe. It’s sounds all impressive from their street names, and misleading picture, but the truth is, it’s in the middle of nowhere, dumpy, needs a much needed revamp, fire the architect, farm course. So disappointing, I had such exciting expectations! I actually drove an hour, and took a half day off work to play the course. Lots of good reviews on GolfNow. First bad course I’ve played on the site. Washtenaw Golf Club was a good one! No one waste your time on this course!
Metamora
Great challenging golf course in great condition. Course is very playable and greens roll fast and lost of breaks
Would recommend this course to anyone
Blind shot special
Course has many blind tee shots which obviously holds up play while you wait for group ahead to look for balls or you have to guess when they have hit their second shot.
pace of play terrible...had to wait on each tee box....finally decided to quit after 17 when we saw two groups waiting on 18 tee box.
course layout is goofy...a couple holes with 90 degree turns and blind shots uphill to greens.....example
;
#18 90 degree turn then straight uphill to green and flag that you can't see.
We will not be back to this poorly designed course.
Wow
This is not a course for the feint of heart. Virtually 80% of the tee shots are blind, there are long shots to be made over water, many doglegs with fairly narrow landing areas, the greens are lightning fast and not one of them is flat - miss going downhill and you have a 3-8 foot putt coming back. Having said that, the course is spectacular. It is flanked by a beautiful subdivision where each home is prettier than the next, situated on large lots and winding streets. There are hills and dales, trees and marsh. The course is maintained beautifully and a challenge for all skill levels. The staff were all very friendly, the starter making sure you understand (in a very nice way) that you have a responsibility to leave the course the way you found it. You really need to play the course a few times to understand what each hole is about, and that is what we intend to do. A+++
Tricky Greens
We played this course at the midweek seniors rate of $35.The course is very well maintained and the layout is interesting and challenging without being to the level of frustrating. The fairways were in good condition but with a lot of divots. The greens are sloped and quite challenging if you are anywhere but below the hole. All staff were friendly and accommodating. We picked up hotdogs and coffee at the turn. The hotdog was $3 and the coffee $1. A pleasant and unexpected surprise at a course of this calibre.
SLOW....
Great layout. Range is decent enough for a warmup. Pace of play was terrible. Took just over 5 hrs for a threesome. Called the clubhouse twice to inform them with no action on it. Extremely frustrating. Shame cause I love the course...
Range
AT the turn ranger/ starter told us we were 30mins behind, yet we waited on 5 holes for the "member group" ahead of us. We played our round in 4hrs 20mins. Seems respectable to me.
Hidden gem!!
Traveled an hour to play this course. It was a good deal and I figured I’d check it out. Course was great. Nice layout, perfect condition and great greens. Will definitely go back, worth every dollar. Good staff and pace play was good as well.
