hope this was a fluke
I'd not been to Salem Hills in a few years. It's always been an old school course with a nice layout and some unique holes. The greens were in OK shape. However, there were grass clippings throughout the fairways and rough. Combined with the long and thick rough, it took forever to find a ball once it got off the fairway. Bunkers had barely any sand in them. It had been days since rain but there were several places with standing water in playable areas. This had always been a nice course and I hope I was just seeing a rough weekend because if I go back and the course condition isn't better, it will be the last time. I wouldn't recommend it to another golfer based on what I saw Saturday.
awful staff
Had a tee time Sunday morning early so I could get around at a fast pace. I won't get up at 6am on a Sunday to slow play a golf course. was told I had second tee time for the day so I thought I would have a good fast paced round. the staff forgot to tell me they were sending groups off both nines at the same time and that included sending off fivesomes. I was told by the staff I had to play slow and if I didn't I would be waiting to play the back nine because of their policy, which they didn't disclose, of sending groups off both nines. the staff was rude when asked why I wasn't told of this policy. I've played this course on several occasions and was shocked by the rude attitude. the fairways had several areas where the grass was non existent and it certainly wasn't at a level to charge 50 dollars for a round. I got my money back and only played nine which as I anticipated was very quick as a twosome. we played it in 1 hour and twenty minutes and I shot a 40. if a course wants to start people off both nines they should tell the person when they make reservations and no course should allow fivesomes on a weekend without warning players of these slow play conditions.
The best customer service in the area
Salem Hills is a great course for the money. The staff is extremely friendly. The course was in very good condition. Highly recommend the course bases on value, staff, and quality of food.
