Not what I expected
The course is absolutely beautiful, but the greens have been beaten up already and no one seems to care. They’ve been hit off if and huge divots left to be. The lace was great when we started, but because we set it as we were the only ones out there that early, by the time we got around (1 hour 10 minutes) we had to wait 25 minutes to go to the back nine and it being drastically over booked, it took 2 and 2/3’s hours to finish the back nine
Beautiful course
Beautiful course with mid-level degree of difficulty makes it fun to play
Disrespectful staff.
We walked into the clubhouse 15 minutes before our tee time . Staff was slow to check us in, and we still got to the tee box ranger by 12:40. Ranger sent off a foursome and 2 sets of women that he seemed to be friends with... who had later tee times, while he made us wait. We nicely asked why he would do that, but he gave us slot of attitude and was swearing, and name calling, got right in our face. I was shocked at his demeanor. We decided to leave because of the unprofessionalism and disrespect we received for being paying customers. This was the most unprofessional and obnoxious display of management I’ve ever seen at a golf course. Take note that others in the past have also had problems with the extreme rudeness of the staff here. Will never play this course again.
Rain Rain Go Away.....
So sad to see the weather destroy one of the best west side tracks around. Before this year in terms of conditions, layout, greens quality, grounds maintenance and value this would be top 5 on my list. It makes me want to cry to see such a beautiful course suffer from the elements the way it has. The grounds crew have lost control. The rough is so wet it can't be mowed. The fairways are littered in crab grass. The greens look sick, slow and impossible to read. I pray the weather allows for a speedy recovery as I miss this course the way it used to be. Good luck Salem Hills.
Late in the season
Course was in good condition for being late in the season. It’s what you’d expect for late October in Michigan.
Fabulous track
This is a hidden gem, I’ve played over 150 different tracks and this one is high on my list!
A must play course!
Salem hills is hands down my favorite course to play. This course plays wide open yet mixes in the right amount of hazards to keep the round challenging. If you haven’t hit Salem hills I highly recvomebd this course!
Solid Golf Course
I hadn't played this course in probably 25 years. It was pretty much as I remember. Enough variety of golf holes to hold your interest, but quite wide open. Trees are set well back from fairways, bunkers arre at the side of the greens, so you can run approach shots onto the green. Course conditions, while not pristine, were better than average.
much better
I had reviewed this course a couple of weeks ago and was disappointed in the conditions. Went back this week and all is forgiven. Course was in great shape and had a much more enjoyable round.
hope this was a fluke
I'd not been to Salem Hills in a few years. It's always been an old school course with a nice layout and some unique holes. The greens were in OK shape. However, there were grass clippings throughout the fairways and rough. Combined with the long and thick rough, it took forever to find a ball once it got off the fairway. Bunkers had barely any sand in them. It had been days since rain but there were several places with standing water in playable areas. This had always been a nice course and I hope I was just seeing a rough weekend because if I go back and the course condition isn't better, it will be the last time. I wouldn't recommend it to another golfer based on what I saw Saturday.
awful staff
Had a tee time Sunday morning early so I could get around at a fast pace. I won't get up at 6am on a Sunday to slow play a golf course. was told I had second tee time for the day so I thought I would have a good fast paced round. the staff forgot to tell me they were sending groups off both nines at the same time and that included sending off fivesomes. I was told by the staff I had to play slow and if I didn't I would be waiting to play the back nine because of their policy, which they didn't disclose, of sending groups off both nines. the staff was rude when asked why I wasn't told of this policy. I've played this course on several occasions and was shocked by the rude attitude. the fairways had several areas where the grass was non existent and it certainly wasn't at a level to charge 50 dollars for a round. I got my money back and only played nine which as I anticipated was very quick as a twosome. we played it in 1 hour and twenty minutes and I shot a 40. if a course wants to start people off both nines they should tell the person when they make reservations and no course should allow fivesomes on a weekend without warning players of these slow play conditions.
Thank You for the recommendation. Hope to see you back at Salem Hills soon.
