Racism
Today when visiting the ranger to check-in he called the threesome I was paired with, “orientals”. I was taken a back, not sure how to react, my tee time wasn’t for 30 min so I went to hit a bucket before playing. After I finished I checked back in with the ranger and this when he pointed out the threesome he paused before calling the people.
Later in the round on the 13th hole, a different ranger approach us as we were getting off the green. He was not in any identifying clothing other than a hat which said Salem Hills on the side. Instead of being polite he launched into threesome that they needed to hurry up. The way it happened screamed racist. No way he goes a group of white golfers like that. After our round I asked the foursome behind us and they never concerned with our play.
It was unfortunate those incidents happened. I did bring it up to the Club Manager who said he would address it and promised to call me back. He also said that has never happened before. Well as easily as the racial slur came off the tounge of the first ranger it was clearly not his first time using the word.
I will give them a second chance but if I sense any ounce of it next time. It will be the last time and I’ll do more the leave a review on GolfNow.
Fair course for women
This is the second time this summer that I have played here. It's a fair course for women. There aren't really any tricked up holes, which is nice. The ladies' tee boxes could be more level, though.
Fun course, pace of play has been rough all summer.
Stacking the tee times a little to close together given skill of average golfer visiting this course. Pace of play ok most of the time, but a few times I have played two holes on the front 9 only to end up behind 3 groups waiting to tee off on #3. Starter and Rangers need to better manage the tee times going off so it does not get all jammed up sometimes.
Great course. Friendly staff. Nice layout, not narrow or overlap. Will return
Pace of play
Wasnt too thrilled with some guy with his wife and kid being very rude calling the clubhouse cause my group was apparently going slow even though we weren’t, he was going fast and very impatient which in turn made me feep rushed and threw off my rhythm, may not come back because of that, didnt spend 40 bucks to get treated like crap all he had to do was talk to us but nope had to act like a baby calling on us
Great staff
Staff was great. Had a little over an hour rain and lightning delay. They kept us informed and offered rain checks to those who wanted them. Got us back out on the course in an organized fashion and the course held up well after the rain.
Would play again.
Fun time
Nice course with some pars available to us below average golfers.
Tucked away gem
I had the pleasure of playing with a local resident so my experience might be a tad bit different from others. My experience was top notch!!!! The course is old school but very challenging. I would recommend it to any golfer!!!!!!!
Great course
Course was very clean and well kept. Fairways and greens in great condition. Will play again.
Way to much money
Course is not worth 27 bucks for twilight. Maybe 15. We booked for 20 then when we got to course sprung that we needed extra 7 for cart.
Salem Hills, front 9 then back 9
Excellent pace of play, our foursome kept up with the twosome in front of us, teed of at 1240p, finished by 420p.
Course had some dry parts where the ball rolled and rolled, but the greens were green, soft and true.
The course was very nice and open fairways so it's a good place to practice your woods and drivers. I would definitely play the course again for the price I got it for on golfnow!
This is a very nice course.
Salem Hills is a nice layout with well maintained tee boxes, fairways and greens. There is some room for missing fairways on many holes, however, the trees will present a challenge for an easy recovery. The course is in a secluded location so it's quite peaceful. We played on a Sunday afternoon in exactly 4 hours. The staff was friendly and the pro shop is handling the pandemic with sufficient caution.
