Timber Trace Golf Club
About
Timber Trace Golf Club sprawls across the rolling countryside that surrounds Lake Wallaby in lower Michigan. The location seems rather remote, giving the course an isolated feel, but the round is well worth the trip. The layout is routed through tall pines and the fairways effortlessly flow across the gently rolling hills. The wooded terrain is one of the course's major draws. Golfers from as far as the metro Detroit area come to enjoy this scenic round. The layout has an interesting mix of holes that offer plenty of variety. There are some tricky spots but you won't come across any carries over wetlands or ponds. Golfers will face long and challenging back-to-back par 5s starting with the 15th. This duo has the potential to ruin your score.

Bring LOTS of Balls!
Great course. Always in great condition and always seems to have very good pace of play.
Greens are spectacular. Very challenging but great layout.
Best Local Course
Timber Trace is a hidden gem. The course is in excellent condition tees to greens and is a beautiful course to play. There are five sets of tees, allowing you to choose the course length that suits your game the best. I now play from the senior (white) tees, allowing me, at least theoretically, to reach even the longest of the par 4's. We had a young fellow join our group who played from the back (green) tees, stretching the course to over 7000 yards. The first cut of rough is quite playable when you stray off the fairways, but the next section of rough remains uncut throughout the entire season. This becomes knee-high grass in July, making it extremely difficult to find your errant tee shot. I agree with other reviewers that the condition of the sand traps could be improved. Overall, Timber Trace is a terrific golf course, very playable for golfers of all skill levels. You will think you are "Up North".
Worth the drive
Very nice condition with some challenging greens.
I would recommend the trip out.
Timber Trace
The course was in excellent shape and the pace of play was fantastic.
Good value and in great shape
Overall good value and would recommend it to others. Course was in good shape and the greens survived the harsh winter.
blown away by scenery
the long rides from 12 to13 and 16 to 17 were great we saw deer and just enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. The golfing was great also, This is a wonderful course to unwind and relieve stress. All four of us that played would go back even if it were just to ride the course and not even pick up a golf club. The staff was very friendly. If you go just relax and enjoy the ride.
Sand traps needs attention!!
The course was in good shape but they are just missing a few of the details on the course. We looked at all the sand traps and they were terrible, there were rocks in them and they had not been raked at all and didn't have any sand in them , makes it tough to hit out of and cost me a couple of strokes! No divot repair sand on tee boxes or carts! Like I said they aren't quite up to speed out there!! They did not have a drinks cart at all on the course. I liked the course and the staff was very accommodating..
I would give them a 7 out of 10!!
a pleasant surprise
A nice track. Greens were fast and smooth. Fairways were in excellent shape. The layout is unique and scenic. I particularly like the fact that I'm most holes you could not see any other hole. It reminds me of courses is "Up North". The only critique I have of the course is the sand traps. They are basically dirt and rocks. The facilities leave something to be desired and the course appears to be understaffed on the retail end. Will definitely play again.
Good course but
fairly good course but there are some holes that far each other which took me about 3~5mins to move to the next hole.
Nice Course
Being a duffer, it would have been nice if the rough was cut a bit shorter. It promotes faster play (not looking for a buried ball).
Other than that, it's a very nice course!
Great day
All flights were delayed an hour due to frost, no big deal. The conditions were cold windy and cloudy! Great day for golf!
The course is in very good condition for this time of year and the greens were fresh cut a fast and played well to the pitch. Overall a great day with my son and golf buddies! Timber Trace is welcoming setting. The Starter was friendly and communicated well with the flights !
challenging but fair
It was early in the year so the greens were not quite there yet.Ball rolled true but slow.If you have bad knees avoid the bunkers as they are very deep and were difficult for me to get in and out of.I like the course and will play it again soon.I prefer to play early there to avoid the slow play.
nice layout
Rolling fairways , nice greens very scenic lots of wildlife
Nice course, very pretty.
I really enjoyed playing the course. It was a drive out from my home but worth it. The play was a little slow as we were waiting all day behind several foursomes and they didn't seem to have any rangers to speed along the play but the course was nice and maintained well.
Nice Course.
Nice course with some very nice holes. Haven't played there in a numbers of years but plan to go back soon.
Always a good day out there
Challenging with a lot of great golf holes. It's a little bit of a hike from the detroit area, but make the enjoyable ride in the country part of the experience. The course is worth the drive. Staff is very friendly and offers a very good value. I have played this course quite a few times over the years. The condition has pretty much stayed consistant. My only complaint is Pace of play is 4.5 hours minimum. Didn't see a ranger last time out and it was 5 hours. On the other hand, Without starter and ranger, this helps them keep the cost down.
This course is difficult in wrong way
They need work on those long bushes, if you hit 10 yards off fairway you get into these nasty bushes you can't never find the ball. And worst part is each hole is located through the residential neigberhoods, you are crossing the streets too many times. Hole #13 you need drive cart more than 10 min to get there. I am not playing there anymore.
its a little out of the way for me.
Although I like the course the hour drive will probably determine if I want to play this course again. It was I pretty good shape except for the bunkers which are not being maintained very well .... no rakes for the players. Collapsed and undefined edges and the sand is mixed with dirt and rocks. Greens were in pretty good shape despite the summer heat.
