Timber Trace Golf Club

About
Timber Trace Golf Club sprawls across the rolling countryside that surrounds Lake Wallaby in lower Michigan. The location seems rather remote, giving the course an isolated feel, but the round is well worth the trip. The layout is routed through tall pines and the fairways effortlessly flow across the gently rolling hills. The wooded terrain is one of the course's major draws. Golfers from as far as the metro Detroit area come to enjoy this scenic round. The layout has an interesting mix of holes that offer plenty of variety. There are some tricky spots but you won't come across any carries over wetlands or ponds. Golfers will face long and challenging back-to-back par 5s starting with the 15th. This duo has the potential to ruin your score.

very good course
Excellent greens, challenging layout. Guarded fairways and greens make shot selection important. Well maintained greens and fairways too! I'm a fan of Timber Trace
Great conditions.
My partner and I got off early, so never had a delay. Conditions were excellent, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Will certainly put this course on our list to play several times this year. Highly recommend it to others. Fun course.
One of my favorites
Selfishly, I am glad more people don't know about how great this place is. One of my favorites.
Nice course, good challenge
The course was in really good shape for early October. The greens were still decently fast. My only complaint was the carts didn't have windshields on them. When it's 50 and windy, the windshield would have helped haha.
Never disappointed
Great track! Greens have been really good this year. Staff is really good no nonsense type of people. Can't stand it when you play somewhere and the staff acts uppity or like your at Augusta. Not here good group of guys.
great price but bad pace
We got a special price, but the pace was slow , slow , and slower. To bad I realy like this course, the greens are geting real beat up and the sand traps are hard and unraked. But it's that time of year, make the money. The day was sunny and warm.
up north feel
always enjoy playing here
course is in good condiditon
magnificent
This course is definitely one of the nicest courses I've played in michigan. Well groomed. Wide beautiful fairways. Great greens. I can't come up with any negative points. Everything from the happy go lucky proshop employee to the range was perfect. There are a couple in between holes excursions through the woods but as the sign says just sit back and enjoy the view. About a 5 min ride. I'd definitely go back. 5 sets of tee boxes allows for any caliber golfer. You won't be disappointed I guarantee it.
good course
Its a good course have nothing bad to say about it.
Nice course, terrible customer service
The course was in overall good shape and played well. I very much enjoyed the layout. When checking in for our tee time, we were barked at by the grumpy man in the club house that we would be delayed teeing off by at least 30 minutes. There was an outing that was running way over and they double-booked tee times. Oh well, mistakes happen, but this guy was about the most unpleasant and abrasive person I've ever met and to imagine it's his job to interact with customers...FAIL.
The pace of play was awful and completely unmonitored. We were stuck behind a couple of slow groups that we jumped 2 holes ahead of at the turn (took us almost 3 hours to play the first 9). By the time we finished the back, we didn't even go back to play the 2 we skipped. Did not see a single ranger on the course.
The pace of play and unfriendliness and unprofessional staff killed the experience. I wish it were different because the course itself is nice and is probably a completely different experience during a weekday or slower time.
Nice course, terrible experience
The course itself is nice, plays well and I would recommend it; however if you don't like to wait around I wouldn't. We arrived, checked in and were promptly told that we would be delayed at least 30-45 minutes. No weather delay, instead an outing was running behind and someone double-booked tee times. The old, grumpy man working was rude and unpleasant. He could have made the the experience better with an attempt at customer service but didn't have a clue. The pace of play on the course was not monitored and even with skipping 2 holes we played a 6-hour round. With competent staff, this course has potential.
Great course
Weather was perfect, course in fantastic shape.Played as single and was paired staff was extremely friendly
Hidden Gem
This course is out in the middle of no where but is worth the drive if you have never played it. The holes are challenging yet scenic with towering pines giving it a northern Michigan feel. Top 5 course in this area without a doubt.
Great track: Tough but fair!
My first time on this course. Beautiful layout! You will not want to walk as there is a loop on the back 9 that takes you out around a lake - Lake Wallaby. It's 5-6 minutes each way out/in but it's beautiful!
There are many sand trap surrounded greens so you need to hit high shots on - no roll-ups for the most part! Shot an 81 which is just 2 shots above my average as i was able to avoid most bunkers. Staff and food were great!
Nice Course
Enjoyed the round despite playing behind a couple of slow foursomes. The course layout and condition were very nice and most importantly had no hidden hazards or forced carries. I will surely go back and hopefully the players ahead aren't deliberate in their pace!
Pace of play was great on Sunday
We had a wonderful time. I always enjoy the challenges of this course
Fun Course
This is a very player friendly course. The fairways are wide and forgiving. It is hard to judge the greens, as it was pouring at times. They did drain quickly though.
The course is surrounded by neighborhoods and snakes you in and out of the different sections, so hole to hole travel can seem long. Being out in the country a bit, there is not a tone of traffic.
Worth the drive
As a relative newcomer to the area, I gave this course a shot based on some reviews of a few local players on an online golf forum (golfwrx). Timber Trace was a fun, interesting, and challenging course. I don't know that i'll make the one hour drive on a regular basis, but it will definitely be a course I consider when I have friends and relatives in town and I want to show them a good course at a reasonable price.
The course and surrounding area are beautiful, the course was in pretty good shape (greens were a little chewed up but still rolled nice), and it presented a good challenge without being too brutal on a player like me that typically shoots in the 85-95 range depending on the course.
Everyone in the metro-Detroit area should make a point to play here at least once.
Mid week golf
I've played here several times before. It's my favorite course in the area. There are a couple challenging holes that get me every time. Overall a great course and will continue to play here.
Great course
Played course on a hot deal and certainly couldn't beat this value! Course was in great shape. Only downside is the 10 min round trip on the back nine.
