Brae Burn Golf Club
About
Brae Burn Golf Club in Plymouth has a traditional layout with a landscape that ranges from gently rolling to wildly undulating. On most holes, elevated tees play to elevated greens. The large, undulating greens usually slope back to front. Golfers will encounter water on 15 holes and the fairways are lined with mature trees. The bunkering is sparse but strategically placed and there are also rough-enhanced moguls protecting the greens, a unique feature at Brae Burn. One tip if it is your first time on the golf course is to study the course diagram beforehand since there are many hidden ponds that come into play on the fairways and greensides. The course's most famous hole is the par-5 13th, nicknamed "The Monster" since it measures a devilish 666 yards. This tricky hole double doglegs to the left and then back towards the right.

Good Value and Good conditions
Course was in great shape. Weather was beautiful. For some reason, the course was pretty empty, so we played at our own pace and finished in about 3 hours. Unique aeration process made the aeration a non-factor. They aerate 1/2 the green at a time and place the flags on the half that has not been aerated. There was little to no impact on our round.
Open but Challenging
I played this course for the 1st time and was very pleased. The course is open but plays difficult with sloping fairways, dog legs and tough greens. The greens were soft and fast, the fairways were freshly cut, I think this course is a great value.
Good pace of play
Have played Brae Burn a few times this year and overall it has a decent variety of holes and I've experienced a fast pace of play until the last few holes every time. There are definitely some tricky holes and the course has more than its fair share of difficult greens. Grass bunkers around a lot of the greens so that saves some trouble. A very long course from the tips but I heard that they moved up the mids, which makes for much shorter par 3s and takes 150+ yards off The Monster. The course also has larger holes on each green marked by a yellow flag (to speed up slow golfers), which is something you must be conscious of when first playing so that you hit at the correct hole. I have only played in good weather so I cannot confirm what others have said about issues with standing water from rain, but there are some holes with destroyed sections of fairways. The clubhouse is nothing special with average priced food and drinks, easy to get something quick at the turn. Also, the course is located next to a dump and shooting range, so not the best surrounding scenery. Great value if you can catch a hot deal, I would look for other courses nearby if only the full price is available.
Not for the money
Overall Brae Burn was challenging and in decent shape. The greens had a lot of deceiving break to them. The greens were made harder by poor conditions mainly unrepaired ball marks. I enjoyed the course but overall think it's overpriced. Paid $40 on golf now (so $43 after fee). It's probably a $30 course.
swamp
First time I played the course it rained all weekend. The fairways and the greens hold water like crazy. Quite a few times the guys I played with couldn't position their ball as well as I could, leaving them with no choice but to take relief from the standing water in the fairway. Some times we had to take relief on the GREENS. I'd like to play mid summer to see if it's better, but if it rains, I'd look elsewhere :/
could be something special
I played here for the first time in a couple of years. The course still has the potential to be something special. There are lots of elevation changes, sloped fairways, hills around the green to make for a challenge. However, it's not very well maintained. There are several water features that are all kind of gross looking and even kind of smelly. The green speeds were inconsistent from hole to hole. There are several fairways in need of better drainage. Since I last played, the middle tee set has been moved forward about 500 yards, leaving a 900-yard difference between the tips and the middle tees. A second pin with a foot-wide hole has been added to every green, which is kind of distracting. On the 9th hole, the middle tees are moved to the forward tees. I don't know how a woman plays that hole. There are trees blocking the tee and getting over or around them to a reasonable second shot on the par four is nearly impossible. It's a nice course, but there are several better options in the immediate area.
probably won't go back unless very inexpensive
Teed off Saturday at about noon. Staff was nice no problem there. Course was very wet due to rain going through that morning but seemed like the water was not going anywhere. I believe they may have a drainage problem on about a third of the holes. Course is a bit odd with all of the little ups and downs. Not that they will keep someone from playing there, just that you have to watch your shot placement. Frustrated because balls were lost in the rough right off of the fairway due to absurd amounts of dandelions all over course. And due to lack of proper drainage, there were a few drops due to puddles in the fairway. There was actually a cart stuck in the mud in the rough right off the fairway that looked like it had been there a while. The greens have an absurd amount of undulations. No straight putts to be had. No one bend putts over 6 feet. The grass on the greens was not bad but the amount of humps on the greens is over the top. Like I said, not the worst course but nothing really memorable and the greens are too much. Probably won't be back unless a great deal.
online fee policy
Brea Burn home of the monster , 6oo yard double dogleg par 5.
Other than the monster a relatively short course but the greens will make you pay.
However my concern is with Golf Now and your new policy of not waiving online fees for frequent golfers.
Whats the Deal ?
Early season golf
The course was in decent shape for early season golf. Very wet due to some rain. Very large greens to hit into made it nice for a first round but be care fully many greens have large ridges or multiple tiers. This is a shorter course even with the 666y monster. Greens are also very unjulating, not very many straight puts to be had. Overall it's a decent course that offers the chance to hit some tough shots, but is open enough to be played by anybody.
Sunday Golf
Played 18 holes in 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon which I thought was extremely good. The greens were in great shape.
fun course
nice layout, challenging but not tricked out greens. variety of water, greens slope, short on traps however
Redo- greens
Greens where very hard and seemed a little unfair. condishtions were a little wet.
Unbelievable!
Checked in 30 minutes prior to tee time. The golf attendant (kid) working the desk stated I could not tee off early because of the discounted rate I got on golfnow.
Golf course was not busy at all. And after seeing conditions of course and lack of customer service not surprised at he lack of business. I got a hot dog at the turn which was cold, I just threw it out.
Just a bad experience but I played well. First and last time I will play course.
Normally love this course
The day we booked this course, we were not informed of an outing that was ahead of us. We only got in 13 holes before we were backed up 15 minutes on each hole. We left, but did receive a rain check for 9 holes before Nov 15th, so lets hope the weather hold out.
Nice Course
Nice course to play. It was open and forgiving. I did loose a ball or two in the fairway because of the leaves and tall grass but overall a good value.
Fun and challenging
Played this course early, about 7:45am. Had a threesome tee of in front of me and they must have been playing speed golf becuse I was never held up by them.
Course was in fabulous shape. Was wet but that's what you get at the time I teed off. Greens were healing from aeration but were still in great shape. Played the course in 3 hours flat so it was a great pace.
Young man who opened the clubhouse could have been a tad nicer and more attentitive. He walked off and left me standing at the counter by myself for a while while he went to the lounge area to do something. I was the only one in line at the time so he could have assisted me then went about doing what he needed to do.
course is in great shape
Course is in awesome shape. I used to play here when I was younger didn't care for it much then. Now I wish I lived closer I would definitely play here more.
Great course , average conditions, tough putting!!
Brae Burn is to me a great course, even though the length isn't super long. This course makes you think about all aspects of your game, especially course management and approach shots. The risk, reward on the dog legs(over trees) is doable and allows you to cut quite a bit of distance to the green. Especially 9 and 13(the "MONSTER'). Also for bigger hitters, there are a couple par 4's (4 & 17) that are reachable off the tee. The putting is truly difficult and you need to be below the holes on most putts. Fun course, but could be maintained better, heavy grass clipping off the fairway were a problem.
good golf course
we like braeburn golf course, good for both men and the ladies, tees were up too far for mens the day we played, very good conditions, we will be back !
Fast greens
Walked for $20.00, well worth it. Didn't wait on one hole. Greens have sped up tremendously since beginning of year. Precarious pin placements made accurate approach shots a must. The "Monster" ate me for lunch..... Had a great time. Sandwich afterwards was excellent, as always.
