Bruce Hills Golf Club
About
Bruce Hills Golf Course is located in the north metro Detroit area near Romeo. Mature trees are scattered throughout the course, providing shade and a peacefully secluded feel. The par-70 layout is relatively short at only 5,630 yards form the back tees, making it an ideal round for beginners but it still provides good practice and a quick round for more advanced players. The golf course sprawls across a diverse terrain that allows for downhill and uphill approaches to the small, round greens, which are often sloped from back to front. Keeping the ball below the hole is the key to scoring well on this golf course. Bruce Hills' player-friendly layout only has four bunkers but water comes into play on 12 holes, providing the bulk of the course's challenges.

Good for early in year round
The course was in decent shape for so early in the year.
Course is relatively short and not difficult, but tough to 1 putt most greens.
Needs Work and Better Management
When we arrived at the course, the woman manager told us we had to tee off on #10 because they were working on the front 9. Nothing was said about having to play the back 9 twice.
We made the turn in one and a half hours and went to #1 tee. The twosome ahead of us had teed off on #1, then turned around and drove back to the club house. As we were getting ready to tee off on #1 tee, they came out of the club house and placed a “closed” sign by the tee and told us the front 9 was closed and that we would have to play the back 9 again.
There were several carts lined up on #10 tee; we had about a half hour wait before we could even tee off. The woman manager offered to move us to the head of the line, which I’m sure would not have set well with the other golfers already lined up waiting to tee off. Since we didn’t have time to wait and play a 3 hour round of golf, we had no choice, but to call it a day.
As we were leaving the course, we saw two golfers heading up the 9th fairway to the green. Apparently, some of the golfers ahead of us were allowed to play the front 9, but not all of us.
The woman in the clubhouse was confrontational and made no attempt to make it right with us. Had she been upfront and honest with us in the beginning, we would have rescheduled for another day. The bottom line is…we paid to play 18 holes, but only played 9.
After multiple attempts to reach the General Manager by phone and unable to leave a message because the mailbox was full, I sent an email. Since I have yet to receive a response from the General Manager, I have to assume that what we experienced is an acceptable Vargo business practice.
As for the condition of the golf course, the ponds have slimy green water and the tee blocks were shameful (very little grass and you couldn’t find a flat spot), in fact there wasn’t any grass at all on hole #17 tee block.

Great Course for the price
Great place to relax and play while the course maintains nice greens and fair way. Great price as well
Horrible greens and tee boxes, terribly understaffed.
The course overbooked so we ended up waiting 45 minutes in between the first and second hole. The tee boxes were absolutely terrible. Only teed off of actual grass and not sand on about 40% of holes. Not only were tee boxes mostly dirt and sand, but extremely uneven as well. The greens were 70% grass and the rest bare sand and cheap grass seed that doesn't appear to be growing in the slightest. The inside snack/bar area was understaffed and had run out of food. Seems to be a pattern of horrible maintenance at the Golden Hawk, Bruce Hills, the Myth, and other sister courses.
Terrible Experience
Nice staff but terrible course. The tee box is all roughed up, fairways touching leaves other golfers constantly playing on your hole, poor experience, etc. Didn’t finish the full round instead left and played at another course.
Need rangers bad
No one on the course to regulate play backed up on every hole.... it was a torture!!!!!
Twosome in front of us playing two or three balls every shot while drinking beer and shouting.
Round before that two some parking on every green and tee box with their cart.
Some Tee boxes were dirt no grass, numerous unrepaired divots on the greens. Looks like the moon.
Will never play this course again.
Haven’t golfed Bruce Hills in years and now I remember why. Greens are ridiculous and pin placements where awful. It’s one thing to have hard greens but it’s another thing when they are like a carnival game.
Nice course for the price of a round
Fun course with a few challenging holes.
Like that they had greens keepers working on the course.
Unlike a few courses in the area are making an effort to keep it in decent shape !!
Love Bruce Hills
I have been to Bruce Hills many times and always have a lot of fun. Go check it out.
Fun course tee boxes are chewed up
Really like the course and the layout.
Only complaint is that the tee boxes are almost complete divots. And the tee boxes are far from flat.
Main problem- Unbelievably slow. Way over booked on a Monday!
Course layout is so nice, short but difficult. The greens are sloped and very challenging but lots and lots of unrepaired ball marks and areas of fairways roped off/under repair on almost every hole! Course could be fantastic. Elevation changes and rolling hills all over but unfortunately it needs some TLC in a real bad way.
Poor condition
Tee boxs had more dirt then grass. The “sand” in bunkers was almost concrete like. Greens where nit consistent. Also no beverage cart on the course on an 85 degree + humidity Sunday..
