Hole 10 Photo submitted by u314164227538 on 07/08/2023
Beautiful views, terrific golf
As always, the elevation changes make the Highlands course worth the trip from St. Paul. The par 5 number 10, and the par 3 number 17 are spectacular in their overview of their respective holes. Such a magnificent layout and good quality conditions make going here worth the time, effort and cost. As is always the case, we will return as soon as we can. Not many golf courses in Minnesota have as much to offer the good golfer as does Mississippi National.
Course would be great if kept up
They must be having financial issues because the course is not in very good condition. Some tee boxes are partly bare, bunkers maintained, a lot of weeds in the rough. A couple of fairways were partially flooded (due to a spring or irrigation leak) and hasn't been addressed since I played last fall.
A must
This is one of my favorite places to play the highlands are challenging and scenic it is a bit of a drive from the cities but well worth it! The course is in great shape for this time of year and will only get better. If you haven’t play this one it should be on your bucket list of courses to hit.
a fun day at redwing
We have played the lowlands course several times and always enjoy it...for a spring day it was in pretty good shape..only a few areas of ground under repair....the greens were rolling nicely...it was not crowded...just over three hours for 18 holes and a good price on GolfNow. We were about 30 minutes early and the person in the shop said we should wait until our tee time...although no one teed off for those 30 minutes we waited....for some odd reason my GPS did not know they had modified the course a few years ago...no big deal...we will go back
perfect day for golf
we caught one of those great late October days when the sun was shining and the lowlands course was not busy. The course was in nice shape too, even after a lot of rain. Greens were good too. And the Golf Now rate was amazing. The Lowlands had been changed some since we last played there and we really liked the changes. There no tricky holes and we could see where we were going on all our shots..
Soggy fairwayse from recent rains made less enjoyable
The 150 and 100 us markers seemed understated. # 13 447 yd par 4 from white tees up Hill was easily a par 5 and listed as par 4.
great place
Fourth time here this year. Have only played the Highland Course. Great place. Great staff. Good prices. Conditions were very good.
Suggestions for improvement: fill some of the old bunkers, now sand traps back up with sand. A water station at the port of potty/ pavilion would be awesome. An old-fashioned handle pump would be really cute and very low maintenance. Upgrading the soda machine to accept debit/credit cards and/or equipping the cart girl with a mobile pay device would a nice feature as well, for those folks who don't normally carry or forgot to get some cash.
Decent
It's a great area although I've played there 2 times once on each course. 1st the highlands course and our cart died half way up the ascend to the 13th hole. And the 2nd time on hole 2 of the lowlands they didn't rope off the soft ground and as I was driving my car sank in and bottomed out and it took 4 of us to get it unstuck and ended up playing the other 16 holes with wet feet. Havnt had good luck either time.
Awesome course with spectacular views
If you haven't golfed this course yet, I would highly recommend it. The Highlands course is one of the most scenic courses you will play. Every hole presents a new challenge with major elevation changes and spectacular views. Best of all, I paid only $30 on a hot deal to play 18 holes with a cart. If you decide to golf this course, you won't regret it, especially for a price like that. 5 stars.
Gorgeous
This was my 2nd time playing the Highlands course. The first was for a corporate outing, and I loved it so much I made a special trip just to come back. The course has some of the most scenic views I've ever seen on a golf course. Some unique features, such as 100+ foot elevated tee boxes on a few holes, a couple of sharp doglegs and a great variety of par 3s. You have to take a cart on the Highlands course as it is too spread out and has so much elevation change that walking would take over five hours to play a round. Next time I am down in the Twin Cities area, I will definitely be making the hour drive out to Red Wing to play it once again.
Mississippi National Lowlands
I hadn't played here in almost 10 years (moved out of state). We were very pleased....course was in great shape, greens were rolling well and held good shots. Its a fun & picturesque layout. I will definitely be back here soon.
Unbelievable layout, would love to play again. Course is spread out a lot and very hilly not a walkable course.
Worth the drive from The Twin Cities
Played the Low Lands....a nice, comfortable course for the mid-handicapper who wants to make a day of it and drive down from The Cities. Nicely maintained with above average, fast greens. After the round I was pleasantly surprised at the number of upscale resturants/bars to choose from on the way back to town. An enjoyable day!
