Pace of play.
Was very frustrating. Cart path only????? Why? There were multiple groups of high school age golfers that were walking and skipping hole, jumped in front of me. One hole took 25 minutes (par 3 9th), because they skipped from the 4.th tee to the 7th. No one watching them, when they finished the 9th, they went back to 1 and there were about 6 golfers playing together. If it was a high school team, then make the coach monitor them. The back 9 was slow, if I wouldn’t have spent 25 minutes in 9, I would have been able to play through the slow twosome ahead of me. Looking for balls??? So I got to 11 and waited 15 minutes. Finished that hole and went home. Need a Marshal.
No alert of closure
Booked a tee time the day before. Drove an hour, which I’m fine with because this is one of my favorite courses, but when i arrived the gates were closed and I received no notification. I get that it was colder and windy but all I’m asking is for a notification so I don’t waste so much gas.
Great value!
I like how the front nine holes are more roomy to land your shots, while the back nine holes are more narrow and challenging. Overall course layout is good. Zoia fairways are a bonus. Greens are in good condition.
This course was beautiful
Amazing course! Staff was amazing greeted us with a smile and was super happy! I will
Indeed be coming back to play just because of the great staff and great course. Anyone who is looking for a competitive and fun course should come here, is decently easy and super fun!
Kinda rushed
I had a 12:40pm tee time and was told several things when checking in. First, the cart had to be in by 4:15pm, not just done playing by then, but cart unloaded and returned by then. Perhaps they should not have online tee times going up until 5pm, it gives the impression that you can play until dark. Second, that it was paths only and that the back 9 was closed due to the wet conditions, and that I could play the front 9 twice to get my 18 holes in. I wasn’t surprised that the back 9 was closed, they have done that in the past due to snow coverage / meltage, or just wet conditions. When I was getting ready to start my second 9 the checkin person was standing there and asked what my tee off time was. I had completed my first 9 in 1 1/2 hours and he said well that seems like a good pace. I felt it was excellent considering all of the walking due to it being paths only. I think he was just trying to push people along. There was another group behind me, I wonder what he said to them. Anyways, I have had many enjoyable rounds at Sun Valley over the years, and the course workers are generally nice, but this one left me feeling it wasn’t worth the long drive (50 miles/1 hour one-way for me).
Don’t play till spring!
Don’t waste your money. You can only play the front 9! I didn’t know that until I showed up. Second, the greens are so slow! My carpet at home is faster. I even got a “hot deals” discount and still feel ripped off. I get that it is winter, but other courses nearby are in much better shape for the money.
Hidden Gem
Sun Valley is not on the beaten path which is why this is a hidden gem. The layout is awesome. There is a Par 6, which is pretty amazing. The views are awesome! There is not much to complain about when you compare the conditions to the cost. I paid $30 to play 18 holes (I paid to ride, but chose to walk). It is not an easy course to walk .. and I would not recommend walking because it’s extremely hilly and some of the length from green to tee is over 1/4 mile walk. But, I really enjoy playing this course.
Great course
We love this course!
I just wish they had another set of facilities on the course.
day game
Overall the course is in great shape, especially the greens. The Manager of the course is great, but some of the staff make you feel extremely unwelcome. We asked for extra ice for the bag of beer. The counter person told us that was all the ice you get, there are other people that need ice. We were one of 8 cars in the parking lot. It is a quite a drive to Sun Valley. You would think customer service would mean everything.
