Pace of Play and Golf Etiquette
Took 5 rounds to play 18 holes as a twosome. The group in front of us was very slow, not playing ready golf. They hung around the green for a long time after every hole. We NEVER saw a ranger out on the course, so there was nobody from the golf course to encourage the group in front of us to pick up their pace. The group in front of us also drove their carts right up to the greens, further proving they had no golf etiquette. Then, the group behind us kept hitting up into us after we waited a long time between shots. Again, no ranger to talk to.
Hilly and Scenic
We played the Lakes (9 holes) and Woods (9 holes) courses at Mystic Creek. Like the names imply, Lakes has lots of water hazards to challenge your skills and Woods has rolling hills and mature trees that force you to play careful golf. The terrain is beautiful with deer and other wildlife cutting through from time to time.
Great Hot Deal and Great Course
Challenging course, the "Lakes" course has some narrow fairways surrounded by water. Several elevated tee boxes and greens give you that up north feeling. Plays as a target-golf nine. Also played the "Woods" 9 for the first time. Narrow fairways require accurate tee shots. Always like reminiscing when I play here - it's on the grounds of Camp Dearborn and I spent about of time there in my youth
Improvements
Hadn't played here in a couple of years and remembered it being in pretty bad shape. Much better condition. Greens, fairways, bunkers, everything was much better.
Fantastic for a hot deal!
I paid $15 for 18 and a cart..hard to beat that. It rained a lot the day before, and off and on the day of, but I had a great time playing Lakes and Meadows. Lakes had some long holes with water on most of them. A few great elevated tee shots over water. Very pretty views. First time playing Meadows, and I loved it. A lot of fun hole designs that require some thought before making shots. A few fairways had flooded sections, but considering the circumstances, it wasn’t bad at all. Can’t wait to play it this summer when it’s dry. It’s normally $45+, and I think that’s pretty outrageous, but I’ll pay $20--30 to play this course any day of the week. They take pretty darn good care of it, but there are greens with dead/no grass on the outskirts, and if you’re not very careful some of those cart paths are incredibly bumpy. Otherwise, the greens are great. Some of the other views talk about rude staff, but a young man helped me check in, and he was plenty friendly and courteous. When I finished, a staff member let me know I can take the cart to my car and wished me a good day. This is only my second time playing this course but it’s probably one of my favorites. There’s also no longer a fee to enter Camp Dearborn to play golf, so that’s a bonus.
WARNING!!!! DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE!!!!!
Folks I travel the country with my family playing golf and watching competitive golf tournaments of all skill levels. Never have I set foot on a more poorly run unprofessional operations.
I'll start with the absolute most glaring problem and work my way backwards.
The young staff and ESPECIALLY THE OLDER MANAGER with the grey goatee were not only RUDE but down right belittling!
Range token from machine only fills half a bucket half full of balls.
The majority of the range balls were cracked or had no dimples.
Had to hit off matts...That stinks!
Not one bunker on the golf course was raked or had it looked it had been raked all year.
No ground under repair marked.
Most hazzard stakes were lying down on the ground, tossed back in the woods or broken.
Outside 2-3 feet of every green was dead with winter mold.
And I want to make sure I didn't forget to mention how obnoxiously unprofessional and rude the staff is there.
My advice for you, there are many better options for you to play than Mystic Creek!
Mystic
Played in late April. Although early in the season played all 27 and except for a couple of spotty greens course was in good condition. A good test of golf with nice views.
Nice course
The course was very nice! But had a horrible experience due to the starter. He was extremely rude.
Great Value and Course Variety
27 holes to choose from. Starter gave us our choice to play the 18 we wanted. Very good condition. The Lakes Course was our favorite with challenging layout.
Almost feels like up north
Challenging course, the "Lakes" course has some narrow fairways surrounded by water. Several elevated tee boxes and greens give you that up north feeling. Par 3's play longer than expected. Would have rated 5 stars, but no cart girl, no water on course- all the water fountains at bathrooms were inop. Also they charge you $2 "admission" to get in and park your car to play golf.........
good value and good scenery
got great rate off of golf now. beautiful day. played lakes and meadows. lakes course is very pretty and the most challenging of the 3 nines
Recommendable
Got my 1st hole in one.....hard to say anything bad!
mystic creek
very nice course, I have in plan to play few times more this year !
Needs some TLC
I play this course about once per year. The course layout makes this a nice challenging course I've always enjoyed playing. I'm sorry to report this year the course is showing some neglect. The grass on the greens is anemic and the bunkers are a total disaster. The bunkers are completely unkept. Overall I still like the course but I won't go out of my way to go back.
