Positioning matters
Course was dry but the greens were in excellent shape. Fairways were dry due to hilly terrain which forces water to the lowest points but playable. This is more of a shotmaker’s course for positioning to have a good approach. I enjoyed myself and plan to return.
A Donald Ross Gem Undergoing a Great Transformation
This course, I understand, was purchased in 2020, and has been getting a lot of improvements since. The greens, fairways, and tee boxes were in great shape. As the guy in the shop said, "It's a Donald Ross course, so there's not a lot of flat lies out there."
This used to be a private club, and after the renovations are complete, will probably go private again, so play it while you can!
A Donald Ross Gem
I played Hillcrest 7 and 8 years ago, and I don't remember much of the rounds then, and I also don't remember being impressed by the course. This time, we found the fairways, greens, and tees were in very good shape. Some of the tees, I didn't even use a tee on them because the grass was so thick and lush.
I'm told this is the only Donald Ross course in Missouri/Kansas, and the new owners have put a lot of effort into improving the place. Lots of variations in the fairways, a few two-tiered greens, several blind shots.
Shot placement will improve your score. You just can't put the ball in the fairway every time...sometimes it must be on the left or right. Sometimes, you may want to hit a shorter tee shot so that you've got a level lie.
I enjoyed the round. I’m not used to playing on a hilly course so that made it a little more of a challenge. Overall great experience.
Enjoyed it
For the price. Definitely get your money out of it. Nice carts. Course taken care of as best they can. Only down side is. Players not fixing their friggin ball marks on greens. The white sand was gorgeous. The course was beautiful and fun. Will be back a lot. The guy who cleans the carts is hilarious. Great day overall at this course. 10/10 recommend it
Hillcrest
This course was very hard to find balls in the rough which caused people to look for there balls forever and made pace of play slow
Classic and interesting
Beautiful course with tremendous history. Greens in pretty good condition. Fairways overall pretty good.
Cart paths another story. Very poor condition overall. Need lots of repair.
No Ranger to keep things moving. No driving range.
Great course
We loved playing Hillcrest. The new cars with GOS were great. The overall condition of the course was awesome. The green speeds were a little quick which is what I love to play. It’s a great course with a fun layout at a very affordable price. Will be back soon
Excellent golf and value
Excellent golf and value. This is a old course but the greens are in great shape and fairways are also in excellent shape. The clubhouse and amenities are old and need to be redone but if you’re going for golf it’s a great value
