Pilgrim's Run Golf Club

Pilgrims Run is one of the best maintain courses I have played, love the holes creativity, beautiful scenery, new upgrades to pro shop, overall great golfing experience.

Heard about this course through a golf website and they only said good things. Drove a little over an hour to play it for myself and was blown away. This course was very fun to play, had a mix of challenging holes as well as getable holes. The green complexes are great and pins were in some tough and fun spots. Course was pure and was a blast to play. Highly recommend and I will be back again.

PACE: It was a busy day, but the course moved well.

CONDITIONS: Tees, fairways, bunkers and greens all perfect!

STAFF: Friendly and helpful. Really helped improve my experience there.

VALUE: Save some $ because I walked. Hearing from other golfers this place has raised its greens fees considerably in recent years.

LAYOUT: Each hole is its own experience. Though the course is tree lined, the underbrush is cut far back enough to allow you to find your ball/try a hero shot. You can walk this course, but there is some distance between a few holes on the front 9.

Even the deer really are friendly. Even the birds. A young one flew to our cart, wanting help with sand in his right eye. Pics cuz it did happen

First - Pilgrims Run is arguably the nicest public course in west Michigan. Gorgeous layout where you feel like you’re the only person out there. Conditions were excellent and greens ran fast and smooth. Club house staff was very friendly.

My only issues will sound picky. For $65-90 for $18 (depending on time of day) I have a few basic expectations. Some of these greens were almost unplayable due to the amount of trees debris on them. I know maple spinners etc fall quickly but a few greens were so covered you couldn’t putt with any sort of accuracy. They could blow them off with a tow behind blower a few times a day and it would be fine. Many local courses in west Michigan have invested in gps on carts or at least upgraded carts. As the most expensive public round in the area the fact the carts have NO amenities is frustrating. No liquor and very limited food options which is not new but always disappointing. Lastly and this is really dumb but the new scorecards stink. No hole layouts with no gps is a double negative. No course information at all. It’s like someone decided let’s maintain a beautiful course yet take out any sort of amenities on anything. It’s too beautiful to give it less than a 4.5 out of 5 but come on Pilgrims. If you charge a premium rate then give a premium experience.

I love this course. I have been living north of GR for years and I enjoy everything about the golf at this course. Well maintained, challenging, true greens, awesome layout, etc. But year after year the rates go up. I get it, people will pay the money but $90 for a round of golf is egregious. I think the spring rate of $75 is fair but $90 is insane. Its not specific to Pilgrims Run either courses all over the area (and state) have added $15-$50 to rounds since I've started living here 4 years ago. Im glad to see more people golfing but the price hikes make it difficult to even try to make it out to a course you love to play. If you are not worried about the price then this is a must play in West Michigan.

The course was in beautiful shape and very playable with ample fairways ans large consistent challenging greens. The ranger kept the pace of play decent for a holiday weekend. We will definitely play this course again.

One of the nicest courses in Michigan. Fair & challenging. It's the way you want your golf experience to be!

Always enjoy playing the course, but a few suggestions for improvement:

- Pace of Play: This is often an issue. Have rangers work way backwards from 18 to identify groups not keeping pace. Be diplomatic but persistent in moving folks along. Manage time lost at 10 when folks disappear into clubhouse. Also do not allow golfers to start on 10 when a slight gap occurs - have seen this happen.

- 18th hole: In concept, an interesting hole, but it is always extremely wet in fairway. Somehow drainage could be improved. Also, the dramatic slope to a not-deep green with trap in back results in many balls rolling back down hill. The wet turf makes for a lot of fat chips and pitches. Maybe the green complex needs to be reconsidered as well.

Great course, friendly staff. Only negatives are the distance from my home and the lack of restaurants in or around the course.

This course offers one of the best golfing experiences for the money. You are in the woods in the middle of a rural area. Every hole has a very different look to it. The terrain offers a wide variety of looks and this results in you having to think your way around the course. It is NOT just pull out the driver every non par 3 hole.

Enjoyed a round at Pilgrim last fall. Great layout, variety of hole designs that makes each hole distinctive.

This course is picturesque, quiet, well maintained and for the most part staff friendly. The one problem I’ve seen more than once is staff hassling people for slow play with 2-3 holes to play. Seriously, u just noticed it with that few holes to play?

Other than that my favorite course north of Grand Rapids. A terrific senior rate value.

More of a tongue in cheek critique, have the burgers on the grill outside more often. They’re fantastic.
