Awesome
Played cat tails oct 16 and it's never been in better condition.
Lots of cattails
Birdied #1. After that the course caught up to me.
The course is a lesson in playing correct position on the course.
Cattail is a beautiful course, one that makes you think before hitting the ball, and hope that it goes where you intended it to go. you quickly learn NOT to challenge and play smart. The greens were well kept with a high degree of difficulty in execution of putts.
The staff was nice and made you feel welcome. My playing partner had never played the course before but immediately said that he would like to play it again. There was not many people out there playing, so I can't say for sure if you would feel rushed by a ranger. No one was on duty while we were playing.
Good experience and will do it again.
One of the worst golf experiences ever.
One of the worst golf experiences ever. Sunday afternoon, NO RANGERS, NO MANAGER on duty, and after 5+ hours we still could not finish the round. Don't green fees include more than just admission to a piece of land called a golf course?
Very pretty course with lots of hazards.
Off the beaten path but a real treasure. The front nine was enjoyable and a bit easier than the back nine. The back nine had a lot of very sharp dog legs which required laying up to get a view of the rest of the hole but it was a good time. Staff was very nice and they had a lunch special at the turn. I would play this course again.
Nice Course
Very well maintained. Course knowledge is key. I was fortunate to play with players that knew the course and where to hit it off the tee which made it much more playable and enjoyable. My GPS also was a big help. Without this.....add 10 strokes to your score. Some greens were difficult to read but rolled true. Overall, the course was a lot of fun and well worth the trip.
This course has great features
In fairness I should mention that I was alone and booked behind a woman's league so play seemed slow. Some interesting holes but ended up only playing 9.
Nice course, slow play
I had not played this course in over 20 years. Received a great golfnow.com rate for a Sunday afternoon. Conditions were good.
I have two complaints. Pace of play was terrible. Approximately 5 hours for a course that is not long. Had to wait on every hole. No rangers on the course and the tee ranger even said "we have you paired with another two-some, but it shouldn't be a problem, so go out by yourself". Certainly showed a lack of course management. Second complaint. The scorecard does not show the course layout. Holes 8, 9 and many on the back nine are blind shots. Hit good tee shots only to find one OB and one on the fringe. Definitely need to know the course. Probably won't play again because of the slow play.
well maintained , great value and pace of play was good.the road to get to clubnot so good (it's not a paved road).

Quality Course, Reasonable Price
This is a fun course, depending on the tee box you choose to play it can be on the short end of things. I've played both the white and the blue tees here, just depends on who I'm playing with. The course is usually in good shape and I appreciate the variety of holes on the course. Cattails has a nice mix of holes that demand accuracy and others that allow you to bomb away. The front 9 is much more open, while the back 9 requires you to be a bit more accurate and often consider using something other than driver off the tee. My favorite is #10, which gives even me (not a big hitter) a chance for eagle with a gutsy 180 yard 2nd shot over the wetlands. One thing I found odd this year was that they actually had leagues running on a Saturday morning, also, the pro shop has either been under construction or permanently taken over by an indoor simulator if you care about that sort of thing...
Course was in avg shape but needed attention. Very slow pace.
This course was decent for the price but would have been upset if i had payed more to play it. Very slow play and no bevarge cart after 2pm on a sunday when the course was packed.
Worthwhile Course
Great conditions, tricky greens. The back nine can be extra challenging if you don't have the right yardage & course knowledge. A GPS or laser goes a long way. Only downside is the course can only be accessed by a dirt road
Would like to go back next weekend
First time playing on Sunday 7-21-2013. Was very impressed by the conditions of the course and how well designed the course was. I would definitely like to go back and play many more times if this is what I can expect every time. This course is just as nice as playing U of M and Radrick Farms.
Awesome Track
Wow, this course was a very nice surprise. The conditions were immaculate and the fairways seemed to rival some greens at other courses. Lots of risk-reward and careful planning of shots is required. The greens are mostly multi-tiered and were very fast for a public course. What a challenge.
The Sand Hill Cranes were a nice surprise to see on the back 9.
The only negative was the slow pace of play, although we were playing late morning on a beautiful Sunday. Drinking water on course-no, cart girls-yes. Definitely gonna get back there soon on a weekday and see if it's faster.
In better condition than previous years. Played in 4 hours in the a.m.
Was pleasantly surprised by the course conditions and pace of play. I played Cattails last in 2010 and the course is actually much nicer now than it was then, and rates have fallen. At $40 through golf now, it is probably the best deal around the South Lyon/Novi area. FYI I tee'd off at 740a.m. which I am sure played a role in my pace of play.
A good challange for a great rate...
The course is for sale, and hopefully it will someone who wants to run the course, not build homes. But, the land is a great piece of rolling hills... very nice. The greens are very well maintained, and roll true.
The layout is demanding, with some force carries, and natural high grasses and hazards... but you cannot beat the value. If your in the area and looking for a nice round, make a point to check it out. Other courses in the are to consider, 1. Links of Novi, 2. Coyote, and I would put Cattails in the middle, with Links of Novi the best of the three.
Good course for average players like me.
I have played this course several times in the past a few years. I like this course. The only issue for me is a little bit too far for me to drive.
Challenging Greens
Bad course management. No on on course to speed up play. Waited half hour at the turn to tee off.
Great course
Nice course open easy from white tees bud coukd be more difficult from blue or black .
