Would like to go back next weekend
First time playing on Sunday 7-21-2013. Was very impressed by the conditions of the course and how well designed the course was. I would definitely like to go back and play many more times if this is what I can expect every time. This course is just as nice as playing U of M and Radrick Farms.
Awesome Track
Wow, this course was a very nice surprise. The conditions were immaculate and the fairways seemed to rival some greens at other courses. Lots of risk-reward and careful planning of shots is required. The greens are mostly multi-tiered and were very fast for a public course. What a challenge.
The Sand Hill Cranes were a nice surprise to see on the back 9.
The only negative was the slow pace of play, although we were playing late morning on a beautiful Sunday. Drinking water on course-no, cart girls-yes. Definitely gonna get back there soon on a weekday and see if it's faster.
In better condition than previous years. Played in 4 hours in the a.m.
Was pleasantly surprised by the course conditions and pace of play. I played Cattails last in 2010 and the course is actually much nicer now than it was then, and rates have fallen. At $40 through golf now, it is probably the best deal around the South Lyon/Novi area. FYI I tee'd off at 740a.m. which I am sure played a role in my pace of play.
A good challange for a great rate...
The course is for sale, and hopefully it will someone who wants to run the course, not build homes. But, the land is a great piece of rolling hills... very nice. The greens are very well maintained, and roll true.
The layout is demanding, with some force carries, and natural high grasses and hazards... but you cannot beat the value. If your in the area and looking for a nice round, make a point to check it out. Other courses in the are to consider, 1. Links of Novi, 2. Coyote, and I would put Cattails in the middle, with Links of Novi the best of the three.
Good course for average players like me.
I have played this course several times in the past a few years. I like this course. The only issue for me is a little bit too far for me to drive.
Challenging Greens
Bad course management. No on on course to speed up play. Waited half hour at the turn to tee off.
Great course
Nice course open easy from white tees bud coukd be more difficult from blue or black .
Enjoyable course.
No real complaints except for my scorecard. Some what strategic course. Can't just pull driver whenever you want. Have to play lay ups shots often. Overall had a good time.
Nice Course
Fairways and greens were in very nice condition. Course is fairly open, so wayward drives are tolerated.
The play is slow and the groups are packed i
The play is slow and the groups are packed. There is no ranger on the course to keep the pace up. The food cart attendant interrupted too many times, especially, during tee off. The back nine is really tight - it is the old target golf. If you place it right you will score well.
great bargain
First time playing the course .For the money you can't beat it! My only complaints ,and they are minor, were no markings on getting to next hole and cart ran out of juice.
Shotmaker's course
You use every club in your bag at Cattails. There is sufficient water in play, elevation changes and trees to demand accuracy. The greens were in great condition and many of them have challenging breaks. Keep the ball in play and you should score at Cattails but get a little wild and you will not only lose a few balls, you'll find yourself struggling to make double bogey.
Must play
The course was great! It was a little soggy, which was to be expected due to the excessive recent rain. But the course still was in great shape and was a blast to play with a lot of challenging shots. Definately a course that you will use all the clubs in your bag. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and professional. If you are looking for a challenging course with an up north feel without the drive, then definately give Cattails a try for you won't be disappointed!!
Great course for the money
Fun course to play. Nice conditions even though this was very early in the season. Course layout is interesting, but fair I think.
Great Course, Great Price
Great course. Private course conditions, very fair but challenging layout, and a great price. If you're looking for a course you can hit it anywhere, this is not the course for you. While the course allows you to hit driver on every hole, it's only the "right" shot on select holes. Overall, for a regular play course, it's one of the top courses within a 100 miles from Detroit. I'll play it 4-5 times a season easy.
