About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Tougher than it appears
Course is in immaculate condition. While not the longest course I have played, the blue tees did offer difficult looks and long irons to the greens that did not hold the ball.
Strongly recommend that you play the par 3s carefully. These can be really difficult along with some long par 4s on the back nine.

Great conditions
Wow, another fantastic round at Mattawang. Course was pristine and lush. Fairways like carpet and greens in excellent shape. Keep it going Mahlon and crew!

Just wish that you didn't have to pay in advance. I also c play with three senior and we didn't have an options to pay senior prices. Other then that the staff is friendly and the course is in great shape. It would be nice if you brought back the 5 game stamp card.

Day off golf
Course is truly in the country. Quiet surroundings and a relaxing round with great scenery. Greens are very small, and course is long. Greens are in fantastic shape and fairways are good for the most part, other than some dirt patches due to recent floods. Would play again.

One of the best public courses w/in an hour of NYC
Really a great course, great conditions, attention to greens, and great pace of play by the course not over loading groups. Only thing missing is a good 9th hole canteen and some cart beverages going around.

Great Course
We make the trip from Union County to play Mattawang well worth the trip every time. Played course today only a few days after the storm and the course was in great condition remarkable considering what went on in that part of the state.
