I have played this course for many years and this is the worst it's ever been. Definitely won't be playing here again for the rest of this year. might try again next year.
Interesting Course in Salem County NJ
This is a county course in Lumberton NJ Its wide open and very forgiving. To be fair the course was extremely wet after Tropical Storm Isiais and daily rains. Some of the greens were top dressed with sand which we found confusing in August. One Par 4 had to be converted to a par 3 due to flooding. Golf Now price was $28 which we found fair for the conditions. Will play this course again . It was nice to have a Beverage Cart on course due to the heat.
Centerton golf
Always a nice place to play
Seem to score pretty well here
Pace of play can be slower than normal at times
What i expected
so for the first time playing the course it wasnt too bad. The fairways are really not fairways. The grass is not thick and is spotty, there isnt a first cut for rough, you are faced with a rough that is heavily crabgrass. The greens were good, however very slow due to the weather. the flag placements were good. Another downside, were the tee boxes as there isn't alot of grass. Overall, for the money not too bad,
Worst Course ...
Been to quite a few and this is the worst overall golf course in South Jersey.
Good condition
The course was in the best condition I have ever seen it. The new ownership is really doing a great job at turning this course around. Pace was a little slow as we played our round just short of 5 hours but it wasn’t horrible.
This is a nice course
I have seen this course in better shape but it appears to have quite a bit of play than what I have seen in the past. I still enjoyed my day at Centerton.
Choose another course
This course is aesthetically completely average or below, but what makes this golf course completely unappealing is the management and staff. If you are looking to enjoy your round trouble free and without attitude, do yourself a favor and select another course. The few extra dollars will be well worth it!! I was golfing here 2 times weekly at twilight tee times as it is close to my house, however, the last two interactions with staff are enough to keep me from going back.
1.) I played on a day with 95+ degree temperatures. I have never seen anyone on this course driving around with beverages or food to buy. I was approached by the cart attendant regarding searching my cooler. He suggested that I just put a few waters on the back of the cart in the future and he "would let me go this time." Hot water on a hot day and being possibly searched? No thank you. Being a woman and called out by the cart attendant like a criminal in front of quite a few players? Intimidating.
2) I booked a 5:58pm tee time on a Friday evening. Showed up at the course, and the pro shop was completely closed. Called the golf course and was told someone should still be there, but after several attempts they were unable to reach anyone. At this point, it was too late to drive anywhere else so the night was ruined. I was told I would receive a refund. I called the course the next day to make sure the refund was processed and was informed that it was not, and I would need to call Golf Now. I was informed by one of the owners that it was a call center I spoke to the night before. When I questioned the customer service of ruining my night, and now having to call golf now for a refund I was told the only thing that could be done was allow me to play the day I called instead of a refund. Golf Now confirmed the course could have issued me a refund. They just choose to create an extra step for me because I complained. Did your call center notify you of the problem the night before and you choose to do nothing about it? Very unprofessional!!!
Thank you for this review. As a representative of Centerton Golf Club I would like to have the opportunity to respond. Our management and staff pride ourselves on customer service. Please refer to previous reviews since we changed management March 27th, 2019. We have instituted multiple locations to purchase refreshments this season. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have decided not to fill course water coolers for obvious sanitation reasons. Therefore, we have created other locations refreshments are available for purchase. Location #1- beverage cart. The beverage cart stops around 6:00 PM- 7:00 PM based on the amount of play during that time. After some research, the times that you have played (minimal daylight left) the cart was either finished for the day or wrapping up. Nonetheless, location #2- food trailer located in front of the clubhouse (same hours of operation). Location #3- the Pro Shop from our commercial refrigerator (cold)
According to our ABC License and our landlord, we are not permitted to allowed personal coolers on the property. We are not telling our patrons they cannot bring non-alcoholic refreshments on property; we are saying they can not have them in a cooler. We do not discriminate based on gender or race and it’s absolutely appalling that you would accuse our golf course of discrimination. Our operation UNLIKE most others, prides ourselves on diversity.
On July 24th, 2020, the entire Tri-State area experienced torrential flooding. Our golf course and others in the general area were completely under water and unplayable. We will take the blame for not blocking off the 3 remaining tee times that concluded our rain-filled afternoon (2.4 inches of rain according to our weather station on property). Us and a lot of area courses have a partnership with GolfNow. They host our website and booking engines. If you booked a tee time through our website or through GolfNow, the protocol is for the customer to call the golf course for a refund. That process is pretty seamless from what we’ve found in the past. Our staff member was 100% correct. How he tried to remedy the situation was to offer you a round of Golf on a Weekend, which would be a higher rate than what you paid for a twilight tee time on a Friday ($30 difference in price).
We will continue to strive for excellence in customer service and make Centerton a premier golf destination.
Improving golf course
Wow. This course really improved from last year. Who ever took over is doing a great job. This course should be even better next year if they keep this up.
I like centerton
I play every course in the area, Running Deer, Buena, White Oaks, T&C, Pinelands, Riverwinds
and even venture down the shore to play. Right now it seems like every course in the area is trying to price gouge except for Buena and Centerton. Both of which are very laid back, and have fun layouts.
My only complaint is there always seems to be a backup at hole 1. I’ve noticed that when the younger guys are working, things seem to run More closely to on schedule. Some of the old guard don’t seem to care what’s going on out there. Outside of that, the course is in good shape. Staff is friendly. They even have a few new/nice cart girls... actually having a cart girl at all is a major improvement.
Large greens and wide open fairways.
Don't take round seriously
The course was fun if you approached the round as a good day out with friends. Greens were in decent shape and sand traps are in good condition and placed strategically. Tee boxes needed mowing badly and fairway grass not smooth at all. Occasionally moving the ball was necessary to get a fair fairway lie. The green fee was very reasonable and the staff were terrific...great mobile refreshment service on course on a hot Thursday. Have fun with a "it is what it is" attitude.
looks like they are working on it
the course still needs some TLC - but most of the repairs can be fixed with little money - the paths need to be completely repaired $$$ - I was shocked how fast we went around 31/2 hours.
Very Enjoyable Course
One of my better rounds of golf I’ve had in a while...for the price this course is perfect in my opinion! Yeah the cart paths might be some new of help but other than that i have no other negatives because i enjoyed everything else.... i was enjoying it so much i even left my 52 wedge near the 9th green and when i came back around at the end of my round surely thinking my club was lost i drop my cart off and sure enough i asked and they had my club waiting for me at the club house! Will definitely be coming back!
Centerton
Glad they raised the price. That's going to keep the rift raft out
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I couldn’t agree with you more! I walked off after 9 holes due to the poor conditions.
