Great Play
Another great round at Springfield. Went by myself and was paired up with 3 great guys. Couldnt have asked for better company. The course is in great shape. Will definitely be going back.
A mess
Tee boxes and greens were a mess. The greens were like putting in Iraq. No one fixes there divots.
Easy course and close to home
This course is close to my home and why I play there often. It is also an easy course to play which match my skill level. There are some long par 5 and some nice par 3. All in all a good course for most levels.
Nice quick round
Par 68 but plays like a full course, unless you routinely drive +250yds.
Not crowded, 8:30, Wednesday.
Had trouble finding the next hole twice...please just put up a few signs where appropriate.
Guys in front of us were super slow. Stopped to dicuss every stroke - every hole - every swing! No ranger around to monitor play. They used the restrooms at the turn so we got by them.
Fairways were well groomed but for shorter hitters like me, the grass <200yds out is cut longer. This penalizes guys like me if I don't "get all of it" off of the tee.
The rough was a little too long. We were loosing balls only a few feet in.
Only water on course. No other drinks or snacks.
Nice pace, once past the slow guys. finished in 2:40.
Others asked if I was going to play another round? Said they let you, if you paid standard price for first round. I didn't have time so cannot confirm this.
I'll be back.
Visiting from California
I played this course because it was the cheapest rate I could find on Golfnow, found out that because it was a holiday could not pay walking rate and had to ride. Went from paying what I thought would be $50 to $90 for my son and I. Anyway, that's my only complaint. Staff was friendly and the course was in good shape, not as great as some of the corpses I'm use to in Cali, but good. Some of the greens were in rough shape and unlike Cali we don't have all the trees with leaves falling on the green. Shot an 83 so I was pleased for playing the course the first time.
Try it.....you'll like it.
I picked up an early morning 18 hole (w/ cart) Hot Deal Single player rate on GolfNow for under $20. I last played Springfield nearly ten years ago. Course conditions then were't so good. I thought I would try Springfield for this cheap rate after reading several, recent favorable reviews.
The course conditions were not ideal but this was not the fault of the course. It had rained all day the day before so many of the areas surrounding the greens and the greens themselves were still quite wet. The fairways were relatively dry and in decent condition. Most of the greens were in good/very good condition. Several greens require some extensive repair.
Springfield is not as long as most golf courses. One may only use a driver several times off the tee while using a 3 wood the other times. There are 6 par 3's vs. the typical 4 par 3's. Overall par is 68 vs. 72. The course is fairly wide which should appeal to the golfers who slice or hook their shots. Sand traps are a minimum and are maintained.
The best part of my round was the pace of play. I played with anothe single. We both had our own cart and played 18 holes in 2-1/2 hours. Incredible! I believe many people walk this course because the course is not long or hilly.
I highly recommend Springfield if you can get a cart rate for under $30 and a walking rate for under $20. The normal, weekday walking rate $25 while the weekend walking rate is $30. The cart fee is $15.
Springfield also has an very nice driving range, well manicured pitch-N-putt short course, and interesting miniature golf course.
Give Springfield a try!
Good cheap course.
Good cheap course. Teeboxes could use some work but overall a nice course. Will play again. Realitivly easy.
Much improved
I had been a member there for several years it was okay ground were not kept up greens were in bad shape. This was the first time I had been back and was surprised how much work had been done. I will returnn
Perfect for beginners
Took my 11 year old son for first time on a regulation 18 hole course. He's played pitch and putts and executive courses. It was perfect for him to start out.
Nice course
Have not played this course in a while was very surprised to see the course in such good condition greens roll very nice what play again.
Overall poor course
This course is not very nice at all. There are many better courses locally for the same amount of $$$. The only reason I play there is because it is short and I can knock out a round in 3 hrs or less. The course is laid out like a large "pitch and putt". 8 par 3, 8 par 4's non longer than 350 yards. 2 par 5's. The tee boxes are concrete and worn badly. Greens have many unfixed ball marks. Played on 90 degree day and there was only one water jug and that's in the 5th hole. No rangers to keep the flow going. Other than that, the place is wonderful
Free lunch
A nice local course that gets plenty of play. I'd go again.
Springfield GC
Course was in good condition, plays short, which left us plenty of Birdie and Par oppurtunities. When we had gone into the Pro Shop I said "Good Morning" and the guy behind the counter looked at me like I had three heads! I looked at my partner and said " oh boy, here we go"... But after some small talk he had come around as friendly. I personally didn't eat or drink anything, however their is a full bar and food. And it appeared to be clean and presentable. We will return to play again.
Okay but not good
Tee boxes need work and the fact that I feared every bridge was going to colapse
Good Place to Practice
I have played this course a few times. It is short and wide open. The greens were in decent shape. I would say this is a course to work on some things in your golf game instead of doing so on a better coarse. I think the price of 40 some dollars for 18 and a cart is a little steep here. They also do not reserve tee times during the week so you could finish 18 in less than 3 hours or you could be standing in line waiting to tee up on the first tee. I didn't care for that aspect of it. It is a nice course to walk.
Great Bang for Buck!
I play this course almost every week for 10 years. Has consistently improved over the years. Very playable and short layout, with one of the toughest Par 5 tee shots in NJ (#14). Holes 12-15 often have drainage problems as they are at the lowest point on the course, so avoid it after a heavy rain. Otherwise, its a joy to play at an incredible price ($20-$35). The "pay and help yourself" cooler at the 5th tee is awesome!
Good beginner course
The course was almost all green only a couple of holes were swampy and it was almost impossible to lose a ball which is a plus
Definitely Going Back!
As a very amateur golfer, this course left me asking for nothing. Most of the course had nice, wide open fairways that were very forgiving to my slice... while a few holes made you really think twice about your tee shot. The grounds were in excellent condition for such a windy day in early April.
Good, cheap course
Course was in very good condition for coming right out the very cold months; I was surprised because normally the course gets torn up a bit. It got soggy in places, but I expected that. There needs to be work done, but for $21 you can't beat it.
