Most poorly maintained course I’ve ever seen
I stopped playing at Springfield 15yrs ago because the course conditions were getting pretty bad. I decided to play there with a friend today thinking that after all of these years, bad reviews, and time to make improvements, it must have gotten better. Boy, I could not have been more wrong. It’s worse now than before. On the walk up to the clubhouse, there were potholes in the pavement that I rembered from back then, only they are bigger now. Every single green was almost unputtable due to bare patches making your ball bounce off line every time you had to putt across one. (And this is after a rainy summer here in New Jersey, so the greens are that bad from neglect, not from dry spells). On most holes, you couldn’t tell if you were in the fairway or rough. The 14th fairway alone was like a cow pasture. Some sections of the cart paths were either almost overgrown or in almost unsafe condition. And on top of everything, for the privilege of playing in such luxurious conditions, they charge some of the highest greens fees around. $44 per golfer on a Sunday morning. We could have played a much nicer course for less. This is a family owned course and I’m all for supporting family businesses, but only if the family cares about what they are giving the paying customer. This family does not seem to. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Disappointing
Huge disappointment. This is the course of my youth. I played here often when in my twenties. Moved away 20 years ago and came back to the area and decided to play for nostalgia. The tee boxes are hard as a rock, the greens are pathetic, and the fairways are largely crabgrass. No one, it seems, fixes ball marks on the green. I must have fixed 20 while I was there. They had the nerve to charge me $29 for that piece of crap!?! Personally, I don't get it. It is a beautiful piece of land in a beautiful and prosperous area of southern New Jersey. This place needs a golf course/country club developer to come in and put this place out of its misery. Raze the whole place, mitigate the Rancocas Creek that runs near it, put in some quality irrigation system, and then you will have something. The owners of this place seem like they just do not care. Oh, and by the way, a little message to the staff there, "How about a smile once in a while?"
Pathetic
Hard distinguishing the fairway from the rough, no starter; so tee off in 5 minute intervals... Therefore crowded, they have lost all the greens, no one fixes ball marks on greens... Never again!
Last Resort
If you itching to play last minute, that would be the only time to do so. $20 for a round but course looks like a bomb hit it. Should be closed to let the mud dry and to plant some grass so there could be some sort of fairway. I cannot believe this course has yearly memberships.
This golf course is in horrible shape, the entire course needs to be manicured.the grass on the tee boxes are the same height as the rough and they are not level. This course is very over priced and the owner should be be ashamed of himself for charging 40 dollars to play this course! I only played it because of the hot deal.
Not bad for 10 bucks.
Course is in pretty good shape, greens are smooth but slow. Traps are much improved. Most holes are short and straight but very good for occasional player. Counter staff is awful, very rude if you use golf now.
Great price decent course
The course is straight forwards, set up can get confusing, the tee stone are old and barely readable.
Most of greens are in fair to better condition.
Overall its a quick place to play an 18 and have a day of it.
Move On
No Starter complete confusion, no rangers on course other golfers not following golf rules, ridiculous. Sand traps have minimal sand only positive thing fairways and greens were in good shape.
In good shape!
This course is in the best condition I have seen it to date (7/30/17)! The greens played slow (a little wet), but the course as a whole was in very good condition.
Pro swore that they had never received the reservation from Golf Now until I provided proof. He then quite rudely told us that Golf Now had the prices wrong... it was $40.00 each not $35.00.
Course was in very poor shape. You couldn't tell where the fairways ended and the rough began. Greens provided poor putting surfaces.
Check reviews before booking
Showed up early for a 1:30 tee time. The place was empty, but we had to wait until exactly 1:30 before being allowed to tee off. The course was muddy after a rain the night before. Greens are not good. After the round we wanted to get a beer at the bar, but were told that we had to have a card of some sort which takes 48 hours to get.
Rude Staff, Poorly Maintained, Groundwater Flooding
I have played this course about 2 dozen times, as it is a good beginner course and it is about 3 miles from my residence. I've had positive experiences in the past, but the last 3 outings have been disasterous.
There is a groundwater problem, the greens are unmaintained and saturated. Teeboxes are hilly, changed throughout the season, and riddled with crab grass. There are maintenance holes 4 feet wide and 4 feer deep in front of nearly every green. That's not even the bad part.
If you book with GolfNow, you are treated with resentment and as a lesser-than. Tim, the "manager" will either make you wait til exactly 1:30 for a 1:30 tee time, or send out others in a different party in front of you, and tell you to catch up and play as a group. You can't win. You're either too early or too late when you show up on time. He'll groan and ask how much you paid for a hot deal. Keep in mind, this is while there are about 5 people on the course. This is a dying business and will be shut down within a year. Save your money and go to Rancocas for a few extra bucks.
Sewage in every hole
First time playing this course. There was sewage in every hole. The grounds were saturated with sewage and a strong odor as well. This course should not operate under these conditions until the problem is fixed. Unsanitary
A short Challenge
Condition was poor in that they just seeded all greens and fairways. But we just kicked it to a better lie !
Yes it's short , but there is trouble on every hole , required you to make a shot
Surprise Aerating upon arrival
Have played at this course for over 10 years now and the only thing that has really changed has been their rates. I remember getting 18 holes, a cart, and lunch for $19. Now they have the same special for $35. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but, without the lunch special, you get greens fees of $30. I'm not sure if they are aware of the competition that they have within a 15-20 mile radius that not only has comparable or lower rates, but also significantly better course conditions.
With that being said, I booked a round for my friend (who is brand new to golf) and myself on GolfNow for a whopping $25, fees included. Perfect for my novice friend, and good for working out my long irons from the tees. When we arrived on Wednesday (I booked the round on Monday) for our tee time, the gentleman in the clubhouse advised me that only the front 9 was open as "they aerated it yesterday, and they are doing the back today". Thus we had to play the front 9 twice. This was a bit disappointing as I have seen on GolfNow instances where there are course "advisories" such as aerating that are brought to your attention prior to booking.
